@@briantruck2284 Thanks man! I do my best keep it going. When I first got it at 198,516 Miles in 2016, it would barely climb hills at 35 mph. After all tune ups, it's a cherry. Not mentioning the radiator exploding or the fuel pump relay pooping in traffic or the windshield wipers working when they want or the wonkey cammed v8 sounding starts in the morning. It's pretty reliable.😐

These engines were really tough. I bought a brand new full size GMC truck in 1991 with the 4.3 and drove it until 2005. It had 245k miles on it and was still running fine. A bit under-powered but so what, it did everything I needed it to do. Over 245k miles, I replaced the water pump once, the radiator tank once, the distributor once, and the fuel pump relay once, and one clutch (it was a 5-speed manual). The engine itself never had any issues whatsoever. Then in 2005, I sold it and bought a brand new 2005 Chevy truck, again with the 4.3 and a 5-speed manual. I still have it, and it has 234k miles on it. On this truck, I've replaced the idler pulley once, the clutch once, and the instrument cluster motors once. And that is all. Everything else is still working, including the A/C. Again, the engine itself has never had any issues. To this date, this '05 truck has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.

I have a 2003 chevy blazer xtreme 4.3L 130k miles on it and I have only been able to put 3000 miles on it in 2 years. I've had nothing but problems after problems with this wiring on it, the fuel pump, the ignition system in whole, electrical short somewhere, I can not plug in the mass air flow sensor because it will not idle with it plugged in but will idle just fine u plugged (weird). If I had the funds I'd rip out the entire wiring harness and replace it all. I love the look of the xtreme and will not sell it, I will wait till I can replace everything maybe with a ls3 or something.

@@Bu2SpikeGoing through the same thing with my gmc typhoon. When it runs it runs great but I think my issue is that all the wires need to be replaced. 30 year old wiring finally showing its age. Looking to get fuel tech or holley. I also have an 87 grandnational and had to put 20k in it to get it up to modern standards. I cringe when dodge tries to sell people on their cars being collector's items. The reason classic cars from the 50s to the 80s are great because they are 95% mechanical and analog. As I am experiencing with the grandnational and typhoon that have bare minimum electronics it can be a nightmare in the making. Imagine 20 years down the road you own a hellcat and all the electronics go haywire.

@@JLGARAGE252 yes, the 4.3 is more reliable and durable over the 3.8 engine. The 4.3 is maybe the best all around “first generation small block technology” engines produced. I’ve owned probably at least 10 different vehicles with the 4.3 and each and every single one of them was a fantastic engine. A couple of them had over 300,000 miles whenI sold them, one of which I sold to a buddy that’s still running one of the W/T 1500 pickups and last I talked to him it was around 350,000 on the odometer. The last time I saw that truck the guy said it had 360,000 miles on it. 2 heater cores, two water pumps, 5 clutch slave cylinders, 1 fuel pump and regular maintenance. It only left me sitting once and that was due to the crazy distributer cap cross firing. That truck was built on a Wednesday for sure. Used to be a Chevy Technician at Carlsbad California and I just want to add. When it comes to these S10/Blazers. When it comes to fuel related. Go aftermarket. Don't go with the OEM fuel pump for example. Everyone who has or had a s10/blazer will or at some point will being replacing the fuel pump. GM messed around with a lot of fuel pumps and TBI etc for EPA. When it comes to other parts, I recommend OEM but not when it comes to fuel pumps. I've seen aftermarket pumps out last the OEM in these vehicles and you save a lot more money on the aftermarket too. DON'T FORGET TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP RELAY!!! I can't stress that part enough. People forget the simplest things sometimes and think its the fuel pump.

I've worked/owned so many of these. I own a '96 4x4 with the 5 speed, transfer case is manual too. paid $600 for it 3 years ago because it wouldn't shift into reverse or 5th. Dropped the trans, took it apart and replaced the shift fork. Put a set of 31" tires, raise the front with the torsion bars, put in 2" body lift. Installed a dvd player I had from last S10. Both bumpers were trashed so I made my own. Stuck a winch under the front by mounting a hitch receiver across the frame below where the crank pulley is, which places the rollers where the cable/hook ride flush with my bumper. I sanded off the peeled clearcoat and black top coat, then used a spay gun and applied 3 quarts of Rustoleum smoked gray, with about 40% paint thinner. The black molding strip going down each side I replaced with diamond plate aluminum strips cut from an old tool box and held on with rivets. LED headlights and backup light.

VERY VERY INFORMATIVE!! Have a 03 S10 w/488k on it. Replaced the fuel injector spider a few yrs ago and strangly enough it used to get 17-18mpg but since gets 25-26!!! This is BY FAR the simplest engine I've EVER worked on. Runs like a champ. The REAL trick is keeping up on the vacuum lines and the exhaust. If you feel a loss of power, those two things save TONS of time on acceleration and power issues. Even the smallest loss makes a HUGE difference with this engine. Have had customer after customer come in and wonder what was wrong after lots of guesses. With THIS engine - FOR CRYING OUTLOUD BUY A OBD2 SCANNER!!! We're in the 21st century!! You'd be SURPRISED what ANY person can fix with the right tools and some COMMON SENSE!🤣🤣🤣

I replaced the distributor because the neoprene gear disintegrated at 175k miles. I've also replaced the starter, both front wheel bearings, and the alternator; and I elected to replace the timing chain and water pump. Been the best vehicle I've ever had. I have a 1997 GMC Jimmy. The original motor had 181,000 when it started to have a slight coolant leak on to of the intake at the rear passenger side. I replaced the engine with a new crate engine at 180,000 miles it started doing the same thing. This time I just add coolant every few months and call it good. That engine now has about 250,000. I did replace the starter a few times, the Altenator twice, the idler pully twice. The distributor once from summit racing. Cap and rotor at least a half dozen times. The coil once with an excel. Plug wires twice. I think that is it.

I’ve got one of these in a 1997 S-10. It’s a roller and balance shaft engine, very smooth with an excellent torque range. I’ve got 204K on mine with no serious problems. My advice is to keep up with the oil changes, use high quality oil, and don’t skip fuel filter changes. I change mine every 15K instead of the 30K recommended. Be sure to never run it out of gas because that’s quite hard on the fuel pump. It seems like it only takes one occurrence to potentially cause a problem.

The Cobalt isn't very rusty, but the S-10 is rusted to hell. I have a move coming soon and want to remediate the rust. Everyone keeps telling me to get rid of the S-10 and keep the Cobalt.. but I like to haul dirt bikes and things like that, which I obviously can't do with the Cobalt. Cobalt just hit 119k miles, S-10 is sitting at just over 130k. I'm leaning more towards keeping the S-10 and using some of the money selling the Cobalt to fix a couple things on the S10 and getting to work on the rust. I am hoping to get 400,000 miles out of it.. but which its got a rear main seal leak which it does not leak much just a little oil from time to time.. but no smoking or knocking. or running hot.. I am dealing with the misfire and hopeful will have it resolved soon.. my throttle body cover I think on the air flow cap. Noticed You had a fairly new alt on the truck I'm guessing a CS-130 85amp Hope you understand Tahoe And other larger trucks That have Powerseats And all the power options Have the AD-244 145amp Alt (100amps @idle) For around the same price of the other alt depending on where and who you buy from. I replaced mine And the bolts line right up No issues Other then You need to make sure its the same plug holes 2 vs 4? And a 1 inch larger belt Then your stock one ..I when over board And Replaced all the larger gauge wiring with Welding cable copper 1/0 gauge wire And hammered copper lugs with shielding And a smudge of electrostatic grease inside Added a rear alt bolt to the alt bracket And ground it off from there (Power has a quicker path And does not bounce around the alt trying to come in or out on a front mount) Another common issue People over look when it comes to fuel issues is the Fuel pressure regulator They don't hook up a fuel pressure tester And Or don't know what they are looking at when they do And start swaping out parts as a fix till they find the right part I bought my Blazer Very cheap because of this ... New Fuel pump, New Updated fuel injectors, Fuel filter, Spark plugs, wires, dis, Oil, Thorttle body cleaned, New vac hoses, Still ran ruff... $500 from $1,000 As i told him It could be a simple over looked part Or a major engine swap... Ran a test fuel press was bleeding Meaning a compression issue. Or loss of fuel before hand. Check each spark plug that was fairly new One was more dirty then the rest which told me ether it is not firing proper Or something else not right ...Had to remove the intake anyways ..And yup Pass side rear of the intake sparkling clean like new And the rest of the intake was black from normal carbon At the bottom of the FPR with a weeping hole and a single drop of fuel saying hello ! When the FPR mini screen is full of junk (finer then a fuel filter) back pressure happens And blows a seal The fuel still enters and passes But part of the mass pressure weeps out And enters the intake ($34) Had the Truck (2005 Blazer) 5 years now Nothing but normal wear and tear (rubber lines, tune up Oil etc) no engine codes They make great campers If you tear down the rear to metal and rebuild them Traveled coast to coast of Canada 2 people 2 dogs And slept inside fully layed out

I did have to replace the spider injectors a few years ago and the air conditioner compressor. I do now have an issue with the idle remaining high after the engine is up to temperature. In fact I can be driving 40mph and take my foot off the accelerator and 3-4 miles later it is still going 40mph. Sometimes it even pickup speed and when I get to a stop sign I have to use a lot of breaking to slow. If I pop the tranny into neutral the rpm’s will climb to 2000. Doesn’t appear to be a vacuum leak. Any thoughts?

@TStheDeplorable
@TStheDeplorable 5 месяцев назад
@@elitewarior210 I disconnected the upper transmission line at the radiator, and I ran an extension hose from the line to an oil catch pan. Then I had someone start the truck to cause the fluid to pump out. At the same time I added new fluid through the transmission dip stick tube. I did that until the outgoing fluid was mostly clear red. Then I just added fluid until it showed full on the stick. There are good videos out there on doing it on that truck. There are also good videos arguing to NOT do a full fluid change if the truck is over about 60k and never had a fluid change, because the transmission may be now relying on the grit in the fluid for the clutch plates to grab. Good luck! It was pretty easy once I bought the tubes and set everything up.

Great info. My 2005 Jimmy has 177,000 miles. Owned since new and maintained. Have an issue when climbing a steep hill at high speed cel flashes. No misfire is felt and once I get on flat road it stops flashing. I checked the codes and I get a pending P0304. Did a tune up, complete new Declo distributor. No change. New delco fuel pump and filter made no difference. It has the new MPFI spider and made no difference. Compression is good on all cylinders. I ran across a service bulletin stating that valve guide clearance is an issue in some of these engines and engine will misfire under load such as climbing a steep hill or towing. Just wondering if you heard of this? It is so strange I don’t feel any misfire and no loss of power either. Btw the ckp has been replaced and a ckp relearn has been also done.
