The concept she shares that all’s fair in love and poetry calls back to the old adage “All’s fair in love and war”… so basically Taylor’s using her poetry as war. I’m ready for the Joe slander

i think that its less about the fact that love and poetry are synonymous, and more that the word "war" was replaced with poetry! Really gives me tay voodoo vibes, as she uses her "poetry" (writing) as a weapon against these men who cannot meet her where she is

Hey Zack, great video! With regards to "All is fair in love and poetry": Obviously the original quote is "All is fair in love and war". I think that Taylor does see her pen as her weapon and love is her most explored songwriting theme. She has also said that she values a strong moral code. However, in the last few years her songwriting has gotten a bit more vague due to the immense scrutiny she is under. Many people have also criticised her for 'trashing' people in her songs and yielding her fanbase. I think this is her poetic way of saying: "I will not mince my words. Not for the subjects of my songs, the general public or to maintain your ideas of 'moral purity'. This is my art, take it or leave it."

The title is even airloom turkey slander. Joe alwyn once said in an interview that he has a group chat called “the tortured men’s club”. The title was already a slay for me, then I found out it’s a petty slay and IM SO EXCITED. I think this might just be her best album yet

My guess is the Tortured Poets Department is her, Jack and Lana. We know they wrote together for Midnights and they were seated together at tha Grammys. So I think Snow on the beach vibes for sound. And a line that came to my mind after reading the little poem was: lovelorn and nobody knows

My theory behind the “all’s fair in love and poetry” lyrics is because the original phrase is “all’s fair in love and war” she’s replaced war with poetry. So it’s like she’s declaring war with her poetry. It’s like she’s saying everything is up for grabs to be written about. I don’t know, that’s my theory.

Also the line about love bombs is a reference to “love bombing,” a manipulative tactic to keep a partner from leaving a bad relationship, and that feels like a BIG DEAL acknowledgement/accusation to me

There's already an article on the Daily Maily from Joe's publicist/insider (allegedly) saying that he hopes she doesn't release any details about their breakup in her songs and that it's not a diss album. And! The source finished: 'Regardless of what she does, he will still not respond because he has removed himself from her narrative and is very glad, he did.' I am gagging… 😅😅

to be honest, when I heard “the tortured poets department” I immediately thought about the music industry. I think she’ll mention reinventing herself in the album.

I think the distinction between love and poetry makes perfect sense! The original saying goes "all is fair in love and war" as we know, so "poetry" is replacing the term "war" in her case. And even though Taylor is a lover girl, loving isn‘t her form of artistry. It‘s her writing. Her pen is her weapon and this is her saying that she will write as openly and ruthlessly as she loves. I‘m interpreting this as a warning and "be aware" to our heirloom turkey but also to the media and anybody else who crossed and discredited her. Also looking back to the "long story short" lyrics she said: When I dropped my sword I threw it in the bushes and knocked on your door And we live in peace But if someone comes at us, this time, I'm ready She implies that being in love is being defenseless but also trusting that your partner won‘t hurt you. Love is a sort of truce at least until it ends. And it ended. So, anything goes basically. "You‘re losing me" was only the tip of the iceberg. We‘re discharged from the hospital and going straight to the heartbreak tortured poets department. She‘s not a patient anymore, she‘s the chairman!!! Taylor is absolutely over him.

So, I found one of her comments when announcing this to be kind of interesting, and it actually goes back to the win itself. She makes the comment that she knows a big part of why she won (at least in this category and b possibly AOTY as well) is the fan base. I love Midnights. I think it did deserve the wins it got. But I think this was her acknowledgement that the other things that happened this year, the success she’s been having, her popularity… they were a part of this win. As is the case with a lot of big award shows. It’s rarely a simple question of which was the best work.

A thought I had while watching this was the spoken-word poem interlude of Seven on the tour was probably a little nod to this new era of “poetry” as a theme and possibly the introspective style of writing? Very excited to hear what the first single is gonna be.

This is giving the penmanship of Folklore, the music style of Midnights with a non apologetic hint of Reputation. ALSO Reputation was mainly about Joe saving her, and the albums cover is black and white. Folklore is the first time she asked joe to work on an album together. Also black and white. And now The Tortured Poets Department being black and white. Along with the lyrics she released with it she is being whimsical yet direct. Her pictures are sensual yet laid back. Reputation TV IS coming right around the corner and like I said that album is mainly about Joe being her saviour while also showing a more sensual and aggressive side of her. She KNOWS everyones waiting for Rep. TV and will be listening to it like crazy. All leading up to her new albums release that is all about how that "golden love" ran out. Her Grammys outfit I think is also a big easter egg on what the albums going to be like. I was really confused by her dress but with THIS it makes complete sense. Shes wrapped up in bed sheets, showing some sensualness with the corsetted back. Black gloves and a black hand fan. Elegant yet blunt. The chocker being a clock. "Tick, tick, tick". Also side note the picture of her in the pastel pink cardigan is very JOE coded to me. Lover color of a cardigan and its the "only" thing shes wrapped up in. She is ACTUALLY easter egging! Even though I liked the idea of this new album (hoping for another Folkmore moment), I think she was certain that Olivia would win AOTY and tried to kind of steal Olivia’s thunder… If she lost to Olivia, then everyone else would be talking about Olivia. Taylor was nervous when announcing it because it was a bold move and she knew it. Just hope this Taylormania won’t end in bad terms. I just feel it was inappropriate to announce it during the Grammys and make it all about her, but it’s business in the first place and we know Taylor takes her business very seriously.

I knew rep TV would not happen. So every two years we get a new album and two Taylor’s Versions between, in 2020 we got folklore and evermore, in 2021 no new album but fearless and red TV. In 2022 we got midnights but no TV’s, and finally in 2023 we got speak now and 1989 TV. So for months I have been saying that TS11 would be next not rep or debut. I feel like this is folklore’s sexier sister (as Ally Sheehan said). Like this album will have very poetic lyrics like folklore and evermore, but will be a little bit spicier, like rep (not as much but just a little) and its giving 1960’s, new york city police/investigation department and something dark is being uncovered

all is fair in love and poetry, much like the phrase all is fair in love and war, so perhaps poetry is how she fights the war, how she takes her shots and licks her wounds and everything in between. Its her main weapon when life, and love, turns into a battleground. The ink in her veins reminds me of people saying they have steel in their veins, as a reference for the fight and resilience they have within them during struggle.

I have a feeling this is gonna be very Lana coded. Can’t put much finger on it I just have this feeling

I believe this album is going to be a direct dig at Joe's perceived "uppitiness". She definitely fell for it, we all fell for it. I believe Joe might have been a little reductive of Taylor's talents and this album will be her way of showing him how nuanced and truly artistically "tortured" she can be as well. That's my take. TTPD will be the "high-tea", sophisticated sister of Red, a pop breakup album.

for me its a mix of folklore, midnights and reputation reputation: sexy, private, secret, isolating, tense folklore: melancholic, poetic, deep, introspective, hurt midnights: mature, cynical, nostalgic, solitude, denial TPD will be for sure: poetic, deep, introspective, solitude, hurt, melancholic, mature, private, secret, sexy with hints of british, light/dark academia and victorian goth but i really got a feeling of 3rd sister of folkevermore while also being midnights b side (but not twin as evermore was, its a b side exactly for being so different) because i was cracking my head thinking WHY oh god WHY she is always using black but mixing it with folkevermore references like that date with travis with the flower top, its isnt just rep, some looks were pure rep but some were a folkevermorep, you noticed? And it was so off her style that it had to mean someting. Also the college girl, trust fund, old money, dark/light academia of the last months was giving me TS11 vibes. But with yesterday look, so clearly BW/rep, i got a goth vibe, victorian goth, romantic till death goth. Really loved it and blew my mind bc was a whole different direction.
