Hello! I hope this video was helpful. Took me a bit to brainstorm ideas, film, and edit, but it was fun nonetheless. Please let me know what ya thought or if I missed anything. Go Aggies!
I would recommend you look at this link from the UC Davis website: www.ucdavis.edu/majors/ There are over 100 majors, and unless you're looking for something extremely specific, chances are UC Davis will have a major that suits you. I think one thing that comes to mind is that UC Davis does not have an undergraduate business major. Managerial Economics will be the closest thing to it.
I had a blast at UC Davis, Davis really felt like a college town. I am so glad I went here over UC Berkeley. The tip about studying abroad is one that I highly recommend as well. I did the UCEAP program to Korea and Japan. I did it twice because it was a life changing experience. And the tuition for me to go to Korea / Japan was actually cheaper than my tuition at UC Davis. There is something about being in a study abroad program that you cannot recreate by personal travels. Another tip is to apply to be a PAL program, this pairs you up with an international student and you basically hangout together and you get a 0.5 unit credit for doing so. I did the PAL program every quarter to meet the minimum units requirement to be a full-time student.
My daughter did too. 3rd year in Spain. Meeting so many other UC students. Her roommate was suppose to be her sorority sister. She was late on turning documents so forget it. Her roommate turn out to be someone from my hometown.
thanks for the vid! i'm between transferring to davis, sb or usc and this cleared a lot up. i'm thrilled to hear about how they've committed to creating a sustainable campus, i would love to be a part of that. appreciate you posting this!
just waiting on my uc/csu decisions now this was prob the best college review video i've seen! super informative but concise, thanks for the help!! wish i could tour myself
Thanks for this vid! I hope I got in! I applied for Genetics. My GPA last year was a 4.1667 and now it’s a 4.5, but they’ll only see that if they request a transcript. I hope my PIQ’s and community service are good enough since we didn’t have the SAT this year. You definitely have some great insight!
Here is a little tidbit about the dorms. As you've seen, there is segundo, tercero and quarto...which stands for "second", "third" and "fourth". There used to be a Primero ("First") as well but it was torn down around 1991 after the 1989 earth quake. Primero consisted of Struve, Titus, Beckett and Huges and they were across the lawn to where Segundo is. Now you know why there is a "second", "third" and "fourth" but no "first"...
I'm in a rabbit hole of videos about UC Davis (I'm looking to see who our creators are). This is one of the best I've seen, and by the far the best overview for prospective students. Nice work, sir. Tip #4 is particularly interesting. I was a student here back when your classes tended to be in the same view buildings. As large as the campus was/is, it was usually a five-minute walk from one to the next (I never had a bike as a student). That's not the case now. The lectures and discussions are much more spread out. So good advice on your part: do a little intel before the quarter to figure out where your classes are. e.g. having to go from Olson to Med Sci 1 would require a mad dash, while a person could literally crawl from Rock to Roessler with time to spare.
I was aiming for UC Davis, and got accepted, but this was when I lived in the Bay Area. Ended up moving to the San Joaquin Vally, so I opted for UC Santa Barbara, kinda out of convenience. That is one choice I will always wonder whether or not I passed up on the right one...
The good news is that you still have time! However, it goes by fast, so start preparing for the application when you have the time. It’s not as bad once you start and tackle it bit by bit. Best of luck to you!
AVID is good even though my daughter is 2nd generation. She took it all 4 yrs in high school. I wasn’t ashamed to see my daughter earned a hooded AVID during high school graduation. Before it look like a regular stole but for her it was like a grad school hooded one. When you are like my daughter who come from a uneducated background where your father was the only one who finished post graduate school. You want to do everything on your own with the support of your parents paying the fees. They make you guys practice applying for college admission. Some of these school will give you full ride scholarships. Most likely you don’t even want to go there. Good luck!
i got accepted to managerial economics. can you please talk about how is the major’s job prospects? what do you work as now? is it a major worth taking
I think it's a bit premature to tell. Unless I missed it, I'm not sure if the university released a statement regarding the 2021 school year. However, you may want to send them an email.
Thank you for this video, I graduated high school class of 2020, and was thinking of moving to the US to establish residency and hopefully apply to UC Davis. Of course, all plans fell through because of COVID, so I decided to play safe and stay at home, work for a friend, for the year. (Call it a gap year if you will haha) I felt under the weather for being behind in school, but now that the situation seems to be slowly looking up, this video has gotten me excited again to attend college first time! Thank you :)
Pro about cuarto...its an apartment style vs dorm style feeling...you have a big suite that you walk into a private living room in with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms for just your 6 suite mates It's much more an apartment than a dorm
What's the difference between managerial and regular economics at Davis? I really want to transfer next year and hope to work in finance, which major would be best to choose? Thanks!!
Hi Maggie, in my opinion, Economics is more theoretical while Managerial Economics is more practical. If you hope to work in finance, I would probably recommend Managerial Econ. Here are the course catalog/description websites for Man Econ & Econ: Man Econ: managerialeconomics.ucdavis.edu/course-descriptions Econ: ucdavis.pubs.curricunet.com/Catalog/ecn You should take a look at the following classes from the Man Econ website: ARE 142-Personal Finance ARE 143-Investments ARE 171-Principles of Finance ARE 172-Financial Management of the Firm ARE 173-Capital Markets Just my opinion, hope it helped!
This School is 5 hours away. I'm in 10th grade and deciding if I should choose this college. This video was SUPER helpful and informative and I will definitely rewatch a few times. I love the campus!!
My highschool in Vietnam does not provide any translation or sealing service for official transcripts. However I see that UC Davis require the official transcripts to be translated and sent directly from that foreign highschool and most importantly sealed in an envelope. Do they accept official transcripts translated by a professional translation service in the U.S but isn't sealed in an envelope ? Thank you.
Victor Please tell me the size of the bed ? Is it all Twin XL or just regular Twin? Do I need to use mattress topper? Which dormitory is the best or better one? Thank you
This video was super helpful. Thank you so much for all of your tips. I am super excited to start school but also really nervous. Hopefully it goes well being online.
I applied to UCD for engineering and I was wondering if you know how difficult it is to get into the school of engineering and how the people are like at the school of engineering? Great video btw! Loved the editing!
Unfortunately, I don't know the specifics. UC Davis doesn't have an admissions breakdown by college page. I would think the College of Engineering is one of the harder ones to get in, but I could be wrong. As for the people, I didn't get a lot of opportunities to interact/work with the engineering people, mostly due to different majors/classes, etc.. However, I'm sure that the people there are friendly and willing to help. But of course, that won't apply to everyone. I hope that helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to let me know. Best of luck to you!
