@@topsykretts2364 Very true. If anything going back the Domains of Dread doesn’t surprise me, Venda was sealed there after all for awhile, but Vecna is one of the Dark Lords who DIDN’T wind up dealing with Strahd before getting his own domain.

I'm kind of worried that the story will be a lot of ping ponging players around, without letting them kind of good feel for the places they're going, to really sink their teeth into what's there. A drive by. I hope that I'm wrong and there's some good meat in those locations and plots to support them. (Also, I'm tired of cults being apart of D&D modules.)

The thing that surprise is that Miska the Wolf Spider, the second Prince of Demons, it has not appeared since the adventure "Rod of Seven Parts", this gives the opportunity of characters like the Queen of Chaos to come back in hopes to revive the Dawn War, or even Obox-Ob the first Prince of Demons that has not yet appeared in 5e, maybe he wants to murder the Queen of Chaos for vengeance and Miska in order to regain some of his Lost power, and of course Demogorgon could appear in order to defend his Throne of the Abyss, truly the Abyss is the worst enemy of all existence and I don't know, I'm curious what does Tharizdun would do too since it's the creator of the Abyss and the most dangerous and powerful enemy of all D&D.

I'm running Lost Mines for AL at the moment, and if the group vibe is good my master plan is to continue with Shattered Obelisk, and then continue it on with Eve of Ruin since Obelisk ends around the right level for Eve to start. My plan is that Ilvash is a creation of Vecna or bioproduct of him killing the Mindflayer god

Me and my friends have run many modules, including ToA, PotA, RotFM, GoS, RoT and currently doing Phandelver and Below. My plan is to make this an Avengers Endgame, have them play with their old characters, maybe even have multiple parties, so that it feels like a culmination of our years playing together

It would be really cool if Vecna was trying to steal power/secrets from Acererak, Strahd, and Asmodeus. And if one or all of those villains want to help the adventurers to (get their power back) stop Vecna. I mean, it seems to me nearly all deities might be shook if good ole Asmo was weakened and the Abyss gained a stronger foothold on Avernus.

Every edition change there has been a major magic event that fundamentally changing the setting to account for the new edition. Looks like Veca will be the catalysis of the edition change. I imagine it will end with his defeat but not without the multiverse changing.

Ironically, this will be the third time it’s Vecna. The first time was in the Greyhawk setting with the original group, and helped them figure out how higher level villains would work, then there was Die Vecna Die, which ended AD&D 2E, and began 3E, and now we have Vecna once again.

I don't think we'll see a lot of legendary heroes from the different settings (Drizzt, D&D cartoon party, Vox Machina, etc.) and I think that's a good thing. Too many high-level NPCs might shunt the focus from the actual player characters. If they're the ones fated to find the rod, the adventure should keep the field clear for them. Also, could the shambling mound art at 27:35 be the Temple of Elemental Evil?

I’m very excited. The artwork alone looks awesome. I’m excited to see what minis will be coming out also. Ultimately though, if they do trip at the finish line on the actual campaign story I’m not real worried about that. As a DM I usually tweak things a bit anyway. So long as there’s plenty of cool stuff to pull out of it and enough story to inspire our own thing I’m happy.

As someone who's been playing Idle Champions since it began I'm looking forward to seeing how many of those characters end up at least mentioned in Eve Of Ruin; Not just the ones Ted already mentioned, but the likes of Avren, Baeloth, Penelope, Orkira... Hell, maybe even the NERDs. I can't see Stranger Things getting into the book, but maybe they'll do the opposite way round and a flashforward at the end of S5 can have the survivors sitting down to play Eve of Ruin?

In the first ed games, we had artifacts which opposed Vecna's, like the Cup of Akabar, the invunerable coat of Arnd, and the teeth of that one monk.

I totally understand what you’re saying by including more characters and making it a global threat with a whole bunch of canonized characters… But like I think, eventually you start to get lost in the soup. I don’t think you want that much stuff in a campaign.

Kinda excited for this book and its release. Lots of potential to really dive in and give players and DMs a good complete adventure, but I'd expect no less from Amanda Hamon. I think its utterly hilarious that the most exciting book from WOTC in years was developed by a former Paizo writer. High level, world building, world ending menace, adventure specific subsystems, famous NPC cameos, "globe" trotting, if that's not every Pathfinder adventure path I don't know what is. I hope this is the way D&D is leaning towards, it won't bring me back to 5e but it'll be some more fun adventures for Pathfinder conversion or to run through the new Kobold Press system.

I'm gonna watch the Legacy of Worlds stream to see what Elminster is up too with Melf and Keith Baker's character. If they're not in this adventure I'm gonna work them in, and have Drizzt be hired on as Alustrial's body guard in Sigil. 8 eyes are better than 6

I think starting at Level 10 is a great call. If they tried to make it 1 to 20, the book what have to be absolutely huge to properly give each level its due, and I think each individual level would feel rushed if they kept it to the page count that they normally run with. Leve 10 to 20 feels like a good middle ground. Also, the *opportunity* to include all of those canon characters that you mentioned certainly exists, but I don't think they can. There is just too many. If they have tried to shoehorn everyone in, that won't feel satisfactory either. We would probably complain about some characters only getting a cameo (which might still happen). And at what point would it feel overwhelming for a DM to roleplay all of these characters from the game's past. But I do think individual DMs could drop in characters that interest them, if there are some that aren't highlighted in the adventure itself. I'm definitely going to pick this one up.

I wish they would have made a Warlock pact of Vecna Patreon subclass.I like when a book has also something for the players like a subclass, Races, feats and legendary items.

Great breakdown as always Ted. I do think you were slightly unfair to some of the recent wotc products. The Deck had a horrible rollout but the deck is amazing. The card explanation book is perfect. The art is great. The Book was a little chaotic but if you have the patience to read through it there are a lot of great ideas. Great inspiration for DMs. Even Bigby’s while somewhat niche I have used it to do some cool giant stuff I wouldn’t have otherwise done. The writers are doing their job.

They mention twists and with Mordenkainen smirking, I wonder if Vecna is impersonating Mordenkainen in that scene... Especially because they said the wish didn't do what they wanted "for some reason" and seemed to allude to Vecna's plans as well as the underlying magic of the multiverse.

Do you think there will be a smaller print run for the alt cover because of the book team layoffs? Alt covers have been super easy to get somewhere discounted the last few years but I'm concerned it will be harder going forward

This book sounds really exciting to me too. I was really excited when I the Shattered Obelisk might be the culmination of everything we had seen so far with obelisks in other books, but that turned out to be pretty disappointing

I know I should temper that optimism though. But the way they speak, this could have wider lore ramifications than even the Spellplague.

I don’t think they should write vox machina or any other third party stuff into the book, but they should have a part near the beginning where they suggest ways to modify it to bring in other worlds and characters, both for third party as well as for characters from your own campaigns that you’ve played in the past. (Edit: vox not box. Stupid autocorrect.)

if they brought in ALL of the famous NPCs, there would be nothing of value for the PCs to do. I like that this is mostly dealing with settings and NPCs that have already come up in 5th edition. Save the other NPCs for their own adventures. This isn't the last adventure. They need material for another 10 years of D&D.

Honest question guys - new to DnD. So I just bought the companions set (PH,DMH & MM) and almost immediately after this I heard there were new books coming out. DnD 1 or the new thing (2024). A complete new set - abrogating the last? So my question - is there any reason to by (new or any) 5E books at the moment? Like any at all…? All the rules are being updated, along with every class and monster - which basically means every past adventure book. Should we just wait for new copies of all the books with all the new rule sets and updates or do you guys think the 5E content will seamlessly work with all the new updates? Bit long winded but honest question from a noob

Anything you buy that comes out this year should be safe to buy if you want to. You will probably want to get the new core books when they come out, but you can keep playing all the new adventures with the 2014 core books.

i am interested in the ravenloft visit and hoping it is shrinkable into a halloween one shot if it's meant to just be a short adventure. i also want to see them give vecna a stat block that is actually challenging and truly god-tier, since he's a god. current 5e vecna is weak.

Do you think that WotC's dealings with Critical Role will be reflected in this book? Descent into Avernus and EGW were the first books that acknowledged the ascension of Vecna in 5e. I would hope so, but the legal messes of 2023 discourage me

Wizards could possibly surprise us and that will be the first part of a multi-part story taking PCs beyond 20th level. Or one that will change theDnD multiverse forever like Marvel is doing. Maybe even re-write history of the campaigns histories and introduce old chapters as new young characters.

i dont think rewriting old campaigns would be a good idea since they already tried that with 4th, but reverted to more of the 3e universe in 5e. theres enough retconning in dnd. i think expanding on or reinvestigating old adventures would be more appropriate instead of just rewriting them

The fact that you had all these great ideas, is the reason it will never happen, D&D doesnt think outside the box and it takes very creative DMs to think of these things ( and there are many). This most likely will be very linear and will most likely need vast rework from the DMs to make it work for thier unique campaigns. Thats ok though, the premise so far is good but his just seems like Marvel Infinity War except with a D&D coat of paint. Hopefully the foundation of this book is soilid enough to make it successful for all of us, player and DMs both.

I would loooove to see the release of DnD2024/OneDnD/DnD50th…. Coincide with an actual play run through of this. DMd by Chris Perkins (or Dan Dillon?!? He’s an incredible DM) Similar to what they didn’t CoS and Dice Camera Action.
