Little known fact, the top of their CTL line the ST50 makes the most torque of any CTL in the industry at 368ftlb. Even the mighty ASV 135 at 316ftlb can’t match it. The Kohler KDI3404 is an absolute phenom of an engine.
I saw that as well when comparing machines. The Kohler and Cummins are far more torquey (especially the Kohler) than their Japanese counterparts. I wonder why this is. I suppose fuel economy is a driving factor in engine displacement and performance. Maybe just a different approach. Torque is great, especially in a power hungry machine like a ctl.
Power is power. A planetary system uses a high speed, low torque hydraulic motor. Direct drive motors are low speed, high torque. They both consume about the same amount of power.
