My daughter has raised a conure from very young. It is thriving and a person and fun. This woman knows of what she talks. Listen to her. I would also say that Conures are NOT disposable pets. Commit 20 years or don't bother, but, that said , a healthy conure is a wonderful family member. Unless you've ever met a conure raised well then it's not easy to understand - a bird that loves and cuddles! WARNING It is still a bird and will crap on anything. Good video.
U go girl, I love sun conure mine just pass away he was 6 years old, he had bornavirus, it attack nervous system. My heart break he not in pain now, I will c him in heaven. My love forever sun conure.
I had lost one to bornavirus a while back as well.. loved him to death.. Totally shattered me.. What’s worse, I got two ( got them together..) and now the other one is also exhibiting signs of it…….. Can’t bear to see her go thru all that suffering..not sure what to do since there is literally no cure.. really sorry for your loss!! Hang in there!
@@PoodlesandParrots Hello. I am a new subscriber to your channel. PLEASE I NEED YOUR HELP!!!! I normally breed & hand feed baby Lovebirds & parakeets. I brought a 3/4 week sun Conure Today. Please can you help me by sending me the feeding Schedule from 1st week until weening & how many hours apart I need to feed & how many times???? PLEASE HELP!!! Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your Time.
G'day, from the land down under, Our sun conure 3 1/2 years ago landed on his shoulder and even we placed ads everywhere he sort of stuck with us and nobody claimed him or her you really can't tell. He is a loving bird and loves to snuggle. At first we found out that he loves too sleep on his back and we thought that he was dead but, no we found that's normal and he now sleeps in the cage at night in a hammock. He loves grapes and he is very sneaky as his also loves butter. This is why we called him butterbean. He is one noise bird though. Cheers my friend Leonie
Good day mate!! Butterbean sounds like a sweetheart! We are so happy to hear he is filled with love, lucky birdie! It's so funny and cute when they sleep on their backs haha a hammock is amazing! To help with the noise you can check out our video on "How to train your sun conure to be quiet" :) Cheers!
Honestly speaking, I got a baby gold-capped conure thinking it was the same as a green cheek since it had a reputation of being a less screechy bird. Got that entirely wrong and realised quickly this was false. I don’t think I’ll ever REALLY like its sudden screeches but the volume is bearable overtime 😅 edit: it’s quiet most of the time but when it screams it whooo 🤭. Ironically it gives me peace of mind that it’s still able to scream
Birds indeed are loud but not all of the time! They scream for different reasons but I have a video that might help you with the noise levels: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KQlxZifw2Ag.html
This has actually helped me Learn some more stuff that I haven’t learned from other videos I’ve watched. I recently fell in love and bonded with a sun conure at the work and now know I just have to take him to be with the rest of my pet family. I’m glad you mention the sleep schedule and the optimal temperature for them because until this point I was unaware
I envy you. Mine is obsessed with me. I can't even shower or sh*t in peace during the day. He HAS to be wherever I am and if I don't let him, he lets ALL the neighbors know how P-O'd he is. Try taking a leak with a parrot a few feet up 'wagging his tongue' when he sees liquid dripping.
I think the most important thing to do is to not get one but two conures - these birds are highly social and need a companion (and, sorry, a human cannot replace a conure companion). I agree that one should never get a conure that's still too young and requires hand-feeding; they should be able to eat by themselves and should be "fully socialized", i.e. they have spent enough time with their siblings and parents to learn how conures behave. Ideally, one would get a pair of unrelated conures (2 males would also do since they usually get along well, too). Concerning cages: I prefer wide cages with (mainly) horizontal bars (this makes climbing much easier). They should be wide enough for the birds to be able to fly inside the cage (or aviary) - unless the birds are free 24/7 and use the cage only to sleep and eat.
@@AMG__18 Yes, it is more difficult to train 2 conures. But the point here is to meet their social needs - that has to have top priority. I have 4 peach-fronted conures, and when I see how they interact with each other and how happy they seem to be, I don't care about training (although I did some basic training with them).
I have a pineapple cinnamon green cheek conure for about 6 months now as a hand fed baby im assuming this translate kinda the same for most the parrots I assume?
@@PoodlesandParrots her name is Ellie she is a sweetheart and was a handled baby a cross between a pineapple and cinnamon I can see both but depending how the light hits her she looks more pineapple it's weird
Good day from Manila, Phils! I'm quite new, beginner in caring for sun conures. My friend will give me a pair in a week time. They're about 2 yr old birds, not babies anymore. I'm already preparing their cage/aviary. Also done my homework research about sun conures. What should i expect from them in their first few days/ weeks in their new home. Hoping to get a reply from u asap! Thx & StaySafe!
Hello! The birds you will get are new adults, its great to hear you've done your homework... if you've seen most of our videos you'll see I mention a good aviary set up - you should keep them in separate cages with their own space but cages can be side by side. When they come to you they will adapt to the changes so if you want to put them on a different diet, the best time is to start right away. The first few days they might be scared or hesitant towards you and the new place just be patient, kind and go at their pace. Hi forma Puerto Rico, I found a runaway baby jendaya begining of march with it's wings cliped, i asked around and even left my Phone number bueno no one called. I was hand feeding and he's now self eating. My question is" will his wing feathers grow back out " Thank you PD loved you videos
Aww the baby is in good hands!😊 Yes over time the wing feathers will grow back! You can check out my video on feather health and follow those tips as well. Make sure your bird eats a good diet with lots of veggies, grains, beans, good quality pellets, etc. A good Diet will speed up the process🥦🌶🥭
Hello! There are many factors that contribute to when a baby bird will begin to wean. Weaning is a critical stage in a bird's development. When you begin to notice your baby bird is picking things up on its own then you can begin to introduce mushy foods and adult food to the bird. As you see the baby is eating the mushy/adult food you can start to cut back on the amount of hand feeding formula being offered. Conures typically start weaning around 7-12 weeks but make sure to observe their poop too! Mango took 12 weeks to start weaning, just be patient and let your bird do it at their pace when they are ready :):)
I recently started watching your RU-vid channel, and I am in love! I love watching your Conyers interact with your poodle. I really appreciate and am confident in your advice and sharing your experiences with these beautiful birds. I also love your energy as far as your singing and dancing with your birds. I have been thinking several months about getting a Parrot more likely a small to medium size. I have had pet finches for over 2 1/2 years. However I cannot enjoy the companionship in close relationship with finches as one could with the parrots. After watching several of your videos, I am more convinced that my future companion bird will be a conure, Although I am not sure what species yet. Thank you so much for your videos. God bless you and your lovely pets!😊

Hey I recently got a sun conure and he’s a baby and I love him so much but he literally can’t leave a person whenever I put him down he comes back straight away and is scared of my other birds, will he change as he grows up and become more social?
I haven't experienced this with me own birds, there could be something causing your bird fear; there's a lot to answer this question so I turned it into a blog! Hope this helps: poodlesandparrots.com/blog/posts/i-can-t-leave-my-baby-sun-conure-what-do-i-do
Iam seriously considering a sun conure. It’s just under a year old. Its wings are already clipped. Should I reconsider this one. Do they grow back? I don’t know much about birds. I have chickens but that’s not the same.
To be more precise what was mango's age when you guys brought him home? I am to buy a sun conure but dont wanna pay for it to die after getting home( has happened a lot for me).
Hi. I have a baby sun conure, but i don't know how to tame her..she usually gets up on my hands and crawls on my shirt.are these good signs of getting tamed? She also bites my finger. is there any way to stop that?
You really know your way around conures! Ive heard green cheeks tend to have better personalities compared to suns, but besides noise level do you think theres any truth to this?
Thank you! 🙂💖 I have a video coming out next week on the differences and similarities between sun and green cheek conures; turn on notifications for when we post new videos 💃🏼 I will say Suns are much louder than green cheeks and their personalities are similar but they do have small differences - stay tuned! 💛

Hi 👋 I have a sun conure and he is turning 1 years old next month in March!!! I’m excited and mine was little baby when we got him, and his head was more green, and now it’s yellow, is that a normal growth stage?
Hi. I have a sun conure lovebird that I rescued from the claws of a hawk, but I'm having a hard time getting him/her to befriend me. He/she is free to fly from the kitchen to the living room because it was getting stressed from being locked in a cage. He/She is much happier not being locked up but I would like to be able to hold it, befriend it, etc. Any advice? It enjoys watching birds on the internet all day long, even getting up close to the screen of the computer. Help!!!
Hi there! Sun Conure & lovebirds are 2 different types of birds. Is the bird you have one that is domesticated or wild? I would recommend 2 of my videos one on aggressive behaviours: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xW_EhhcYMik.html and the other one on bonding tips: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W2OQ03k0bBI.html I would also suggest you take this bird to see an avian vet for a check up. It will take time, patience and consistency to develop trust with a new bird. You can also seek advice from a one on one consultation with BirdTricks - Jamie & Dave are really great and I am sure they could you! Well done saving it’s life!
Hi i love the video very informative. I have a question i work from 5am to 1pm sometimes i get home around 330pm. If hes sleeping when i go to work he is going to be waking up while im still at work .is it bad to leave the cage covered so long after he wakes up? Any help with scheduling will be appreaciated i really want one
Thanks!😊😊 In your case I would just not cover the cage and allow your bird to go to sleep and wake with the sun since you are at work, if your bird wants to nap they will do that sometimes throughout the day but they shouldn’t be covered during the day or for that many hours. Hope this helps! ✨
ok thank you. Another question sorry. If i get one as a baby thats something you have to be at home most of the time due to having to formula feed it? Whats the recommended age i should get one since i got a full time job i don’t want it to feel abandon.
@@RR-ce9tu whenever you get a new bird it should already be weaned off of formula and completely independent I suggest my video on signs of a good breeder - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-585GhFAh23s.html
I live in a app. Can I keep them quiet peaceful or are they that lound it might make the neighbours mad. Lol as I was typing this you mentioned they are supper lound. So u think it's a bad idea. Or u mention they can be train to be not out lound?? And I can I put them in with my idan ringneck
Sun conures and jenday conures are loud, birds in general are not quiet but those conures are some of the loudest parrots! Your neighbours will definitely know you have a parrot! They can’t be trained to not be loud, it’s in their nature to make noise! but there are tips I have in another video to help to get them to be quiet and it’s important to note that every bird is different so what works for one may not work for another
You should follow the instructions of the breeder in terms of feeding the same formula on the same schedule and amount they recommended. It also depends at which stage the baby bird is when they start weaning they get less formula. Natural and safe but fun bird toys can be bought in many stores but we love planetpleasures.com and we have a discount code for 15% off, MANGO15
We have two! Brought home a year apart, in 2015 and 16? and their green is almost gone....actually Jendays. You say Suns lose baby green in under 2 years? Wow
It all depends on the bird! Every bird is different and you just have to work at their pace. Over time I assure you the trust will build, just be patient, kind, & caring. When it's a young conure without a history or previous owners it should be quicker than if it was an older conure! We built trust with Mango fairly quickly and we became a flock 💞:) Hope this helps!
@@PoodlesandParrots if you don't mind, I have another question about callback training. Now my baby just alway walking toward me to climb on me and i don't think it's because I call his name he often don't come when i call him but after that he came when I didn't call. Is it because he just be with me for a week? Is it too soon to teach seven week old conure a callback? Or too late?
Is there a concern for low calcium in the diet? I would consult your breeder or avian vet on a proper healthy diet for the conure to ensure it has everything balanced. Cheers!
@@PoodlesandParrots thx for the reply. I just don't see calcium in my formula (intune), so kinda worried if i might need to supplement my baby with extra calcium..
@@SamAffandy typically baby bird formula is balanced so that the bird is getting all the nutrients they need - it is important to keep them on the same formula and not change it. You can always consult with the breeder :) once the bird starts weaning the you can introduce a variety of healthy foods so that the bird gets a wide range of nutrients I have a video on how to get your bird to start eating veggies too once they are ready :)
Recently descovered your channel while im looking to get a poodle and a sun conure! I couldn't find a more perfect channel. Can't wait to study up on their care before finding a good breeder for me. They're lovely pets. I love how much care you give em!
You definitely found the perfect channel then🤗🥰 happy to have you here! I also have a podcast that shares a lot of insight on their care and having them as pets check out the episodes of The Parrot Podcast😀
what should i do if my baby conure is not eating when i hand fed him? the guy i bought him from told me to feed the bird 18ml each feeding. but my bird only eats 7 ml and his crop isn’t full. idk how to make him eat more.
I’m not a breeder but if it’s not eating enough and the crop isn’t full (it also shouldn’t be too full) I would suggest talking to the breeder and* getting an avian vet to advise you and check your bird.
Food and water are essential needs for birds. The continued costs of a having bird are also something to consider when working with a budget - new toys monthly usually, fresh foods for daily salads and dry food like high quality pellets, treats (raw nuts), avian vet check ups, & things like that. Please consider if you can fully provide these types of things before getting a pet bird. Best of luck!
My Sun Conure is 3 years old and sleeps with me, the 2nd night that I have Zuce I open his cage and he wanted me so I got him and he went under my shirt and now Zuce sleeps with me I don't get his wings clipped
Ciao. I just have bought a green cheeek. It's a male. 2 months. Hand breeding . I would like to give him a friend. And i would like a sun conure. Always young /hand briding . I have a big cage...horizontal...but also very high. Do you think they could live toghether inside? I know outside could'nt be a problem....two male. Thanks for your reply if 'll arrive
While it's possible to keep two conures in the same cage, it's generally not recommended. Conures are social birds and do enjoy interacting with each other, but they also need their own space and territory to feel comfortable and secure. Keeping two conures in the same cage can lead to territorial disputes and aggressive behaviour, which can be stressful for both birds. If you have more than one bird, it's best that they each have their own big cages. 💛
Sure can! If they are fearful or something like that they can bite hard, they can break skin as well but ensuring your bird has toys to destroy all the time will help file their beak down :)
@@PoodlesandParrots ok but i lives on Pakistan and i don't had cards to buy from outside country and in our country their are no toys for birds to file their beak plz plz reply and thank

It sounds like your bird is fearful. Birds only bite and behave this way for a reason and not inherent aggressiveness. Was there a previous owner or a breeder that handled the bird? You need to find the cause of this behaviour and work on resolving it and building trust with your bird. My next video is all about bird biting and aggressiveness - stay tuned! In the meantime you can check out my video on how to bond with your bird 🙏🏼✨
@@PoodlesandParrots I guess you can say that but since I did my research before getting one, I thought he was sick and took it to the vet… which was useless since he’s very healthy lol
Many reliable sources indicate that a conure minimum cage size requirements includes 24 inches wide x 30 inches tall x 24 inches deep. Some even say 36 inches tall but by roomy I mean if you can get one bigger - the bigger the better. Because they are active and love lots of space the bigger the cage the happier they will be! I like to choose a cage for medium- large size parrots for Mango so can have more room on his little condo 😊
We’ve always gotten baby conures because then we are able to train them, bond with them and build trust from a young age. That’s not to say you can’t get a grown one! but if you are getting a rescue or rehoming it may take longer to bond and train them. All the best!✨
@@SWF-Editz I’m not sure - you’ll need to find a breeder where you live. If you know a local rescue you can check if they have young sun conures but it may be hard from rescue. Look into a good breeder >> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-585GhFAh23s.html best of luck!
