I keep seeing far sector pop up on a lot of “must read” lists for green lantern and I’m pretty excited to check her stories out! She seems like a character that’s got a lot of fun style which translates well to the powers of the green lanterns!
Sojourner Mullein is up there with Jessica Cruz as being fully realized characters who's time as Lanterns lets us dive deep into the complexities of who they are as people, exploring and expressing their internal conflicts in a way that doesn't happen nearly enough considering how many Lantern protagonists we have. I hope these two set the tone for all leading Lanterns going forward.
Jamal Campbell needs to work on the upcoming Static title his art is legend status. Will there ever be books about human lanterns from the other cores? It would be cool to see a Blue Lanterns have a book.
There should be, and it'd be really easy. The blue entity took a Human host for a little while, a young girl named Nicole, and she hasn't been seen since the entity left. He's the perfect candidate for a blue ring, and she'd be our Human pov character in a Blue Lantern series.
Batman once said, " I'm going to beat you so bad that when you are one inch from death's door, I will drag you back the slow and painful way back into the land of the living. Then I will drag you back to death's door, open the door push you in, right before you are completely through death's door I will pull you by the ankle to slow and painful way back into life, then repeat this time over and over this time with a sludge hammer. Now where is Joker before I lose my patience? 😐
I'm sooooo glad you covered this book. I picked up the first issue based off it being a Black character on the cover. Great writing, great art, and socially conscious without being preachy. You my man 100K grand!
A very complex character. Very different type for a lantern. Her power set is intriguing. An depth to her character feels very thought out. Have to see..
It's crazy to think about how much depth and complexity Jo has when she's only been around for a year, compared to someone like Hal who's been around SIXTY years. She's an incredibly strong character right out of the gate, and she's got an unbelievable head start compared to every classic Lantern character.
@@MosaicComics I can already see the Mary sue shoes about to be put on her. Like a lot of Black characters. Her powers are either too powerful or too complex to be used properly in a story. I see her being used just cosmically. But,I hope they give her a real chance in the continuity..
@@georgetinker1292 I don’t see how she even could be a Mary Sue, since not only is her ring weaker than the average Green Lantern, but there’s been an incredible amount of time spent on giving her a backstory that explains every facet of who and what she is. A Mary Sue is hollow power fantasy, Jo’s the exact opposite.
Thanks for this, brother!!! I had no idea about her. New Green Lantern characters have been hit and miss over the last 20 years. Their books have fallen off of my comic book list because of it. However, this book looks like a Great Read! I will definitely buy the series for my girls (11 & 13) as well. Thanks Again, Peace!
@@BlerdWithoutFear It seems like DC wants to push her. She's part of the Future State Justice League, she's showing up in one of the last Death Metal tie-ins, and she's on the cover to The Green Lantern #11. Hopefully this means there's a plan for what to do with her once Far Sector ends in a few months.
I'm definitely checking out this character now. What he says at the end about how Jo resonates in the way she is written is what was sometimes lacking with Miles Morales and Ganke too under Bendis... he had Miles say things that are about colorblindness that could definitely be something a Afro-Latino might think and feel but it's uncomfortable knowing that it's from a white writer. It's ideal, perhaps, but a person of color can pretend or be unware of prejudices but if white person decides to judge them based on those prejudices and has the power to enforce those prejudices it doesn't matter what the PoC believes or knows. I'm of the mind that Marvel needs to let Ta-Nashi Coates have a go at writing the X-Men especially now.
Thank you for doing this video. I only saw her on the image of Future State Justice League cover you showed in the video. It has been floating around for a good minute. I was very curious about her and wanted to know more about her. I am going to look forward to reading the Far Sector and learning more about her character.
Haven't finished this comic yet and I completely forgot to keep up with it! Thanks for this video, I have to get back to reading it! Being Nigerian and seeing more and more black and brown characters is making me enjoy comics again!
First i'm hearing about the character but she sounds awesome. Pretty obvious the Janelle Monae similarities were done on purpose but I dig it. Definitely wanna check this out.
Jemisin has acknowledged that Janelle was an influence. I think they did a great job of taking inspiration from Monae's style while still making Jo a distinct character 💚
Idc if she’s black...I like that she’s a character who happens to be black. Great character and I’m really enjoying this series. I like the idea of characters of being from different backgrounds in general.
Green Lantern? More like Gurren Lantern. She legit giving me off Gurren Lagann vibes with those Kamina shades and cape. Obviously her and Kyle would get along just fine.
Im didn't know anything about her and I love the Green Lanterns definitely picking this up. I wonder what happened in the future to change how the rings work. This story could get real deep
I love the art and the character. The new setting and serjourner being a new black character and having a story really separate from everything else. Everything new and unknown . I picked up far sector when it came out
Isn't this a reworking of the Jessica Cruz character? Jessica Cruz was all about fear and overcoming it and living with it. And because Jessica was so damn fearful she shouldn't even have been able to become official Green lantern
@@tinymxnticore He’s actually been showing up a lot ever since the Justice/Doom War brought back the JSA. He’s been in Justice League, Death Metal, Hawkman, Injustice, the lead story in the GL 80th Anniversary issue...at this point, all they haven’t done is put him in his own ongoing book.
@@MosaicComics Good to know. Usually, DC only references Golden Age characters if they want to contrast how old-fashioned they are compared to modern heroes (like the Justice Guild in the DCAU).
I liked this character up until the 7min mark when I realized she’s just a social statement: she stood against police brutality, became associated with BLM; she’s a pan sexual or bisexual or any of the LGBT letters; she was at ground zero during 9/11... A little on the nose. I bet she’s also an advocate for climate change and gun control. Before anyone assume anything, I’m neither a republican or a democrat, and I’m black. I just hate when reality corrupts fiction in such an obvious and angry way.
And I will reiterate what I clearly said in the video. "I WANTED TO WAIT UNTIL ALL 12 ISSUES WERE OUT BUT THEN COVID HAPPENED AND THE COMIC WAS DELAYED SO.... WHATEVS...." Besides.... Being accurate and informative is better and more important than being "first"
@@BlerdWithoutFear Still ... i couldnt help but express my dissappointment as i was forced to watch others who i might add are not as good as you show at least a part one waiting for a part two. i will note though this is not one of the more popular storylines. i just like it cause she looks just like my daughter.
I am all for the BLM movements message, but that immediately turned me off her character( I don’t like politics in my media I use it as an escape) but I hope stories are written that are good for her character I just learned about her from green lantern issue 8 where she meet Kyle Rayner like the costume don’t like the glasses, but I was intrigued I do like her more than Simon tho
I would pick Kelly Rowland, she is versatile enough, and she's sexually riskay, lol, plus I would love to see her back in a film, she could use something like this, It would get good for her
No thanks. I will pass on the SJW Lantern and this WOKE narrative. The character design and the way she uses her power is awsome though, the art and the setting is great. But I can stand the politics.
Omfg.....why are they always GREEEEN can we just get any new lanterns that aren't greeeen. Red lantern super girl may have been hated idk didn't read it but wanted to, where's the rest? Can I get Blue or a damn orange lantern anti here shit....
The glasses have to be that size because they're a direct reference to the character of Kamina from the anime Gurren Lagann. She's flying her nerd flag proudly.
