I can say I've experienced such a thing. Since I was a teenager I really wanted to draw comics and tell people stories I came up with through drawn pictures. So, I decided that the first thing I need to do is to learn how to draw at least. I just bought a sketchbook, sat down and started drawing what I wanted to draw. Those drawings were bad, but I somehow forced myself to be patient and just trained to draw things almost every day. 4 years passed since that first day, I'm now sitting on a box with 16 sketchbooks fully filled with drawings, not speaking about all the drawings I did on separate pieces of paper and digital drawings on my laptop. I'm still not the best artist in the world but I draw MUCH better than I used to 4 years ago. I still have a lot of things to learn, but I've already walked a long road and every day I'm getting closer and closer to my life goal. Things really take time. Sometimes A LOT of time. But if you work hard, if you actually force yourself to be patient, you'll achieve everything. It really works like that.
