It sure ain’t no option paralysing modeller! 😂 I’ve been gigging the 6L6 versions for about 10 years. Super reliable, versatile and cut through the mix 🤘🤘
The gain is Dynamite 🧨 There's plenty of 'tone' when using the clean channel too. 👍 A very well designed power amp stage in that head, incorporating the EL34's
I'm into the high gain and to me this gets me a sound I've been looking to get for a long time. The clean is amazing... still working on figuring out how I'll use the crunch but trying different boosts. To me this 50W is just a monster! Nice playing as always!
On fire. Thank you, I needed some aural joy between a day filled with meetings. Heck ya. I found the clean epic... which is a minor surprise for me. Yes, use this for demos if it fits your life.
I'll take the marshall 1987x over this all day long . Evh has high gain the marshall has the right gain structure . . Marshall has more clarity and sounds natural .I have a jvm 205 and I have learned that high gain isn't all ways good . It's better to have enough of the right gain . I will keep my marshall jvm but I am getting the 1987x for sure it's my favorite marshall.killer demo and amazing playing once again Elmo
i have this & the matching 50w cab, i still watched your review because youre awesome :) this amp absolutely rules, its a fire breathing monster., i agree also its loud but not terribly loud
The clean sound surprised me by being better than I expected. And I don't see EVH releasing an amp unless it has notably good-sounding crunch. I hate "shared EQ," though. Shared EQ means you get either a great clean tone *or* a great crunch tone, but almost never both. So you can have *one* good tone and one blah one or two blah ones. Me no likey. I'd rather have separate EQs for each, clean and crunch, and do without the supergonzo distortion channel. Supergonzo distortion is why God gave us overdrive pedals and He even lets us use more than one at a time, if we want. It sounds good, but doesn't meet my needs. I can see how it would be just about perfect for some others, though. Nice review. Good, useful information. Thanks.
Man. That thing just sounds great to me from here. I can tell you love it too because you're playing more than when you do with an amp you don't like . 🤣🤟♥️🤣🤣🤣 which makes perfect sense. 7 preamp tubes is amaxing!!! 🤣 Hope all I'd well sir. Good here. Is it cold there yet? It's getting fall here. Take care brother Tim..
Well I suppose throwing a dirty shirley in front of the clean channel gets you around ;) Do an Ironheart 60 or 120H review if you ever get the chance. They're quite inexpensive new for what they offer and you can always find the odd bargain used. Cheers!
Has alot of gain ...but...the plexi has more.string to string separation and clarity when pushed the evh is good ...the plexi can do this though with a pedal in front and retain articulation and dynamics ...just my two cents ...for me nothing beats a marshall ..
This amplifier costs $1400 in USA. The EVH brand is owned by Fender and built in California. So, it looks like this one is a keeper and not going back in the lake.
The EVH brand was owned by Eddie and now by Wolfgang. Fender does the marketing and distribution of EVH products like they do with Gretsch. All the amps are made in Mexico. The guitars are being made in Mexico, China and the USA. The upcoming Iconic amps will be made in China.
Gday mate, can I ask if you have tried it at "bedroom" level volumes? I'm really keen for the 100w version but I'm worried it will be the equivalent of driving a Ferrari around in a 40mph zone. Great playing btw 🤘
Just jumping in to say this amp is REALLY good at low volumes, including bedroom volumes, but the volume knob is touchy. Fender approaches this amp as a mini amp, and therefore the power amp is always 100% and the channel volume knobs are preamp volumes, so you're always at max headroom. The pots are a bit touchy, which means that you have to have it set just so to get the volume low enough and if you nudge it even the slightest bit, you can accidentally get very loud very quickly. Hope this helps, it's a truly awesome amp.
I have it,and the 6l6 version, and i prefer the el 34 version.I also have the joyo 6l6 equivalent ,which is something else.Maybe valve/solid state configuration has its place?
Soitteleeko tällä vahvistimella kotipuolessa, ilman mitään keinokuormaa, vai onko volyymit heti potikkaa avatessa kovat? Onkohan tämä ja Marshall DSL20 nuppi verrattavissa toisiinsa? Tarttis hommata uutta soundia, mutta en osaa päättää. Oma ENGL Ironball on hyvä, mutta vaihtelu virkistäisi kummasti.
Looked like you needed to make a pretty big EQ adjustment between clean and crunch :( that’s something that really bugged me about the HK heads too, always had to fiddle with knobs between two tones... deal breaker. You just keep getting better - way to stick with good ol’ regular practice.
Suomi names i can not read it but it looks funny i wonder how it sounds ! I have only one times see it in real life because i ordered a guitar from finnland!
Yes, the cleans are really good and the gain is more than everyone needs! But, when you switched to crunch channel it sounded a bit muffled and also the same happened when you switched to the high gain channel. I don't know if it's a setting you can make with the tone controls to fix this or it's the amp's inherent voice. You can clear this out because you know how it sounds in the room and how it responds to the b/m/t controls, but you said the same thing...
It is known that 5150 is somehow clone of Soldano SLO 100, but Soldano, even as 100$ Neural DSP plugin sounds a bit better, more arrticulated with same amount of balls.
