Yep! Same color! I actually am a huge fan of old Fords. The Wimbledon White is a cool color, and it's ironic that it's the color of choice for these EVH style builds.
Could you post links to where you purchased the parts. I want to build one of my own but I'm having trouble locating the decals. Thanks for the series of your build. It will definitely help me with mine.
The "5150" decals are the official EVH versions. You can order those anywhere but I chose the Van Halen Store. The Kramer logo came from eBay: r.ebay.com/9NPvcS The body is from Locke Custom Guitars. I believe its the LCG002 model but he has other options so look them over carefully. The neck came from Musikraft, it's the "banana" version. This needs to be customized to your preferences. The pickup came from Pariah. It's the Pasadena "Black" model with heavy relic. Grover tuners with 90 degree tabs...eBay. Fender Jazz bass knob (for the volume). EVH low friction 500k pot. The neck plate came from "Frets on the net". The eye screws were from Home Depot, size #6. I think most of this is covered in the later videos and there might be links in some as well. The best source of information are the builder groups on Facebook. Good luck.
That's the million dollar question!!!! It's heavily debated in all the online forums & groups. I've built both...basswood and swamp ash. I think I prefer the tone from swamp ash...but as far as the real one is concerned, nobody really knows! Thanks for watching.
If i were to convert a Kramer 1984 into a 5150 would I be able to paint straight onto the body (it’s a white guitar) or would I have to sand down the finish before painting the stripes?
I’m pretty sure it’s been done before, but I have no personal experience with this method. I would assume the biggest thing to consider would be the paint type that you would potentially use, and making sure it’s compatible with the factory poly top coat.
Can I ask where you got both the "80's Floyds"? Are they originals that you already had, or did you buy them, those aren't the Floyd Rose 1984 models are they? And can I ask what are the specs for the neck you have for the Musikraft? Thank you - John
John Rogowski Believe it or not I found the 2 Floyds for sale in a group on Facebook. They worked out perfectly because they had the right amount of wear and tear without looking too new. I don’t know if they were from the 80’s or 90’s but they looked great, and they perform flawlessly. I think i paid just over $100 each....maybe $125. The specs for the neck were fairly standard. I didn’t stray from the default settings on their website. It has the EVH 81/91 asymmetrical neck carve, 1 5/8 nut, 10” radius, jumbo frets, and raw finish. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
@@CoffeeDrinker71 Thank you very much. What were the paints you used? Sherwin Williams... what made you switch from duplicolor? Is there any other tool you use to relic besides the Exacto blade. Do you have any advice for relicing the 5150 neck? Again thank you for responding.
John Rogowski Yeah, I switched to Sherwin Williams so that I could use a spray gun. The Duplicolor was very difficult to relic, but that was probably user-error. The orange/red was very difficult to remove during the relic process probably due to it being an enamel formulated for spraying engine blocks. The Sherwin Williams was much easier to relic but also required the matte topcoat for protection at the very end. The orange/red was custom mixed at my local SW store but it was based on the GM color code that everyone believes was the correct code. The white is just a common Wimbledon White. I basically just used the rounded X-acto blade that I mentioned somewhere in this video series. That’s what I used for the majority of it. I ended up going back and adding the fretboard relic and stain this summer using Stew Mac’s “Straw’ colored fretboard stain. It turned out really well but I don’t have it documented here yet. Thank you yes I'm a part of evh replica groups on Facebook, also I recently joined vhlinks also. It's amazing how accurate and amazing people are getting their replicas to look. I myself am going to start another project soon, I know for sure I will be doing Locke bodies, but as for necks, I'm at a toss up with musikraft, Butela or have you seen the new divebomb necks, where they cut the head stock and put the birch peices on the sides and filled in the old tuner holes with dowels so when you paint over you can see how, unkert did it back in the day!!!, there's a lot of options out there now, I'm glad to see this community growing. @@johnrogowski2423 Look for the group titled "Van Halen 5150 Replicas". That's the group with a lot of really good talented members that share good knowledge. Some of the other groups cover a wide range of VH replicas, but that one focuses only on the Kramer 5150 model. Locke is definitely the way to go for the body. I've been very happy with the Musikraft neck as well. Yep, I've seen Divebomb's stuff but not sure how it stacks up as I've never heard anyone discussing it in the groups. Most guys rely soley on Musikraft or Butala for the necks. If I can find you on FB I'll send a few photos of the updated neck. It looks much better. Have a great evening!
With the Locke body and Musikraft neck, did they fit seamlessly or did you need to do any shimming? What were the measurements you requested for that neck pocket (heel and depth)?
Yes, they fit together perfectly. However, once I was done with all of the paint and graphic work, these were sent out to GMW for final assembly and setup. I don't believe there were any shims needed. For both the neck and body, I chose the standard 2-3/16" heel width and neck pocket.

StarWarsfan100110 1 He has an excellent reputation and after seeing these in person, the quality speaks for itself. I’m glad I chose these. In all fairness, I have never worked with a Musikraft body though.
