Please stop telling me I "forgot" _Wabbit Season_ . A - It is NOT canon B - Even if it was, how do I "forget" something that was released 12 months AFTER I made the video?
Without a doubt, I loved the Chuck Jones Bugs Bunny. It was always about Bugs being attacked in his natural environment and his retaliation (of course you realize this means war). And the visual presentation was awesome.
Daniel Galimidi That’ll could have been Woody Woodpecker being dressed up as a rabbit. Maybe they told him to do that. -Big Chungus Oh wait not Big Chungus, Bugs Bunny
The single best Bugs Bunny cartoon has to be What's Opera Doc. Shorts like those introduced children to classical music and culture that they could later appreciate as adults. Modern cartoons do nothing to add to cultural significance.
Bugs borrowed/stole "Ain't I a stinker?" from Red Skelton's "mean widdle kid" character. Much like his carrot eating, contemporary audiences would have picked up on it right away.
Oh, I see Bugs Bunny as Big Chungus! He appeared as a fat version in 1941, until 77 years later in 2018, he was developed into Big Chungus when the Big Chungus video game had its own ad! 👴🧓🏚️
Any time Bugs is in drag is my favorite. As a manicurist working on the nails of a tennis shoe wearing monster, “I said to my girl friend just the other day, I said, ‘Gee, I bet monsters live interesting lives.’ “
It's too bad "Looney Tunes, Back In Action" bombed... I loved that feature... Been a WB toon fan for 60 years, have seen tons and tons of Bugs and his fellow comedic masterpieces. I guess if I had to pic a fave classic-era Bugs cartoon, I'd have to go with the hilarious Bugs/Daffy hunting-season trilogy... "DUCK season! WABBIT season! ... Wabbit season! DUCK season, FIRE!" Blam! :)
Back in Action was great. Space Jam was the best ad I've ever seen. I hope the new one with LeBron James does well so we can see more Looney Tunes more prominently
18:00 Thats not even remotely what happens in Space Jam. They team up with Michael Jordan so they don't have to be slaves at an intergalactic teampark, not to save the earth from an alien invation. The only thing they save beside them selfs is the basketball skills to some pro basketball players.
FUN FACT: Bugs Bunny was granted the rank of Marine Master Sergeant by the U.S. Marine Corp for his outstanding service in WW2 after joining as a private in 1943. I noticed that this fact was absent from this video.
The 1950s era Bugs Bunny is the most definitive of the character. That applies to Porky, Foghorn Leghorn, Tweety, Sylvester and all the recognised Warner characters.
@@laurn.laughter "Big Chungus", referring to the fat Bugs Bunny, that is just one of the stages of metamorphesis of the character. By the 1950s all the Warner characters had reached the final stage of their development, that's why I said the 1950s was the most definitive era of Bugs and all the other characters.
I prefer both season designs of "The Looney Tunes Show" Bugs, as it mostly reminds me of how he continuously would be refusing es up until the most long running look he’d have. Plus I like how most animated shows change from before to after with their characters.
I first heard of Bugs Bunny when I watched Space Jam for the first time and I didn't know it was Bugs. My parents had to explain EVERYTHING about it to me. I love them now.
SHISH, this video has it all! From Happy Rabbit to the 2019 reboot not to mention that "Big" meme. Anyway, thanks for the video doc! This definitely deserves a spot on me playlist if you don't mind dat is.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder thank you for another great video. it's not much i personally didn't know, but there's some stuff i wasn't aware of. also, you have a knack for listing all the changes without coming across as analytical or intimidatingly filmbuffingly (is that even a word?).
I like the looney tunes show version of bugs but I have to admit the classic golden age cartoon bugs is still my favorite because that's the bugs bunny i grew up with.
Big chungus is the *perfected* and *true* form that will always be treated as a god. Because he is celestial, he is omnipotent and most importantly *He'S BiG cHUngU§*
It's been more than a decade since I last watch a Looney Tunes episode. My memories with Looney Tunes is so vague but I will always remember Bug Bunny because he was my most favourite character in the franchise lol
Big Chungus in the thumbnail with other great designs of Bugs. If anything, that smurk he's giving me on it makes me think he bribed Dave to add em on there.
Mckimson's model sheet from 1943 is unsurpassed. It's so incredibly well drawn and captures Bugs' personality perfectly. Even though Friz Freleng is my favorite Bugs Bunny director, my favorite short must be Hillbilly Hare. That square dance at the end is the funniest sh*t ever put on film.
It's been 3 yrs since your comment but.. you reminded me of the square dance short.. I had picked the ones w/Marvin, the Monster and the Conductor but, like I had said, I don't have one fave and you reminded me of another fave.. the "Square Dance" w/those hilarious Hick-a-billies.. lol.. thanks... Th-Th-Th-That's all Folks!"
can someone please explain what the heck that means i keep seeing comments about it and don't get it i love buggs bunny and Looney tunes though classic cartoons
@@harmonijarvis571 Something tells me that you're not going to get an answer to that question. If I had to guess though its probably something really stupid.
Honestly I feel they could’ve made the show without using classic characters, but the constant motif of real-life themes being crossed with cartoon conflicts makes for a purely entertaining show! Also, porky is a cannibal and stress-eats pepperoni...like where do you come up with that?
I loved the "Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show" back in the 90's. I'd watch it EVERY Sunday afternoon. I think my favorite short is the "Barber of Seville" parody they did, that's classic. Or the Yosemite Sam - "High Diving Hare". So many good memories. Space Jam was pretty entertaining too but after the 90's, Bugs completely vanished off the radar for me. I'm glad to see he's still out there and kicking about. I couldn't imagine a world without Bugs Bunny.
Looney Tunes Back in Action was my introduction to Looney Tunes when I was 5 years old. I watched it over and over again constantly. The best sceen is the Painting chase sceen.
Just when I always assume that Who Frame Roger Rabbit and Space Jam was the first live action movie/animation flicks to feature Loone Tune characters, turns out this was around years before them.
Hi, Dave! I want to tell you how much I appreciate this video.....as a lifelong Bugs fan and a historian by trade, I can readily appreciate the work and research that it took to put this video together. Bugs hhas been a firm friend of mine for over 50 years, and thank to you, many of my own questions have been answered!!!!!! Great work!!!!!!!
Contrary to popular belief, The Early Prototype form of Bugs bunny was never called "Happy Rabbit". The "Happy Rabbit" name was made up by Mel Blanc in the 1970's. I 'am Not faulting Mel Blanc, I'm just here to explain the truth.
My favourite Bugs appearance is the Chuck Jones hunting season trilogy, followed by What's Opera, Doc. I loved Space Jam growing up, but not really anymore. I still appreciate it as a fantastic kids movie though. I'm not keen on the modern stylised designs, but I like the look of the new upcoming series.
I really am in the minority here but I don’t really like space jam. The characters are such a far cry from what’s they’re supposed to be and I’m glad you mentioned that. My personal favorite Bugs appearance has to be the hunting trilogy (particularly Rabbit Fire). This was an awesome evolution video Dave keep up the great work. Your Disney evolution series was amazing and this was a great kickoff for a new one!
I'm a little surprised that with all this talk about bugs Bunny in the 1990s, there is no mention of his appearance in Gremlins 2. Then again I can hardly blame you as most of that sequence was cut out of the film, which is a darn shame in my opinion.
Bugs is a god. Without Bugs we would have nothing. Warner Bros don't make cartoons. Warner Bros made Bugs Bunny, and it's Bugs Bunny who actually makes cartoons.
I did as well. Personally, I liked it a lot more than Space Jam. I thought LT: BIA was closer to the spirit of the classic shorts. Space Jam felt like a two hour commercial.
I wonder of they’ll ever really capture the magic of Bugs Bunny again. I haven’t seen anything close since Animaniacs. As much as I love Space Jam, I didn’t like the changes to Bugs’ personality that much. And it felt like the toon characters just behaved according to a template instead of doing anything...clever? Idk Anyway classic Bugs Bunny is my favorite, especially the stuff from the 50s
Hello there, Dave. As always, fantastic video on another fantastic character. Keep up the good work and stay safe and may God bless you at all times. It’s nice to see you again. PS, Did Mel Blanc ever work for Disney?
Hi Madeleine! Thanks so much, I appreciate it. Regarding your question - yes, Mel worked for Disney, but only in two movies. He plays Gideon the Cat in Pinnocchio (however, the only piece of his recordings left in the film are a couple of hiccups), and he played many of his classic characters in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He also voiced Cousin Orville and the Parrot in Disneyland / Walt Disney World's Carousel of Progress!
@@DaveLeeDownUnder That’s right, I have heard of the story where during the production of Pinocchio, they recorded some of Gideon’s dialogue with him, but they decidedly make Gideon a mute character. (I’ve heard he’s based on Harpo Marx) So they discarded most of his spoken dialogue and left the 3 hiccups you hear in the final film, one when Honest John bonks on the head with a mallet and the other two in the tavern with the coachman. To me, I think it was a good idea to make Gideon a pantomime character, because it gives him a great chance to display his gift for personality and slapstick humour. Plus, your videos are very entertaining and informative. 👍
