The idea of Buses itself is primitive now, in the most realistic way we can think of future is using rails and constant electrification instead of using rubbers and battery boxes within bus which promotes carbon emissions.
There already is a self driving bus route in the uk it is run by stagecoach and is a park and ride somewhere in Scotland but most of the route as the buses only came into service a few months ago not much of the route uses autonomous mode mostly parts where it is on a motorway
