As a kid, my first introduction to these two was Rescue Rangers. It would trip my mind out to see them in that cartoon and then their older shorts. I'd be like...."Where are their clothes?" "Why are the talking like they swallowed a whole supply of helium?" "Where's the big cheese addict mouse?" "Where's the pretty blonde tinker mouse?"
As a young girl growing up on this show.... I found myself thinking Gadget is super hot and super cool. She was pretty AND smart. Was very different to see a female character back then to not play a girly role and instead do something often consider boyish.
@@PetitMew I felt the same way about Gadget. Penny from Inspector Gadget (coincidence?) had a similar vibe. I feel like female characters who were good at mechanics or engineering were often portrayed as femme fatales but Gadget seemed more realistic and relatable than that, she could be a smart pretty girl without being an overblown sexpot.
Gadget was always my favorite character in Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers. Mainly because she is pretty and smart. My favorite Gadget episode was the one where she thought she lost her touch for inventing. She came through in the end when her friends were in trouble.
I remember as a kid being really excited when I learned Chip n' Dale were getting a cartoon called Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers. From the first episode I was hooked and it became my favorite Disney cartoon series. Everything about their designs were improved from the shorts I remember watching and loving. So the series was treat. Also, the series introduced one of the greatest characters in Disney history, Gadget.
Headcanon: Rescue Rangers are just an offshoot American organization of the Rescuers and The Rescuers was founded by Olivia from Great Mouse Detective.
Weren't The Rescuers already an American organization? The first movie takes place in the US, but they have representatives from all over the world at their meeting.
The Rescuers were members of an international organization called The Rescue Aid Society that had its roots in ancient Greece (specifically the fable of The Mouse and the Lion). The Rescue Rangers were an independent organization founded by chance and chemistry. That said, I have my own idea for a crossover where the Rangers team up with the children of Bernard and Bianca to rescue children being held captive in an African diamond mine.
I love that they retained Tress and Corey as their performers since Rescue Rangers. Trying to not be biased as far as that cartoon series is concerned, but they're my personal favorite voice actors for the pair. Really hope to catch one of their new CGI shorts one of these days. Also... I miss the heck out of Monterrey Jack.
The two are my favorite Disney characters almost hands down. I constantly watched The Adventures of Chip and Dale on VHS among other video tapes in my youth.
Same Here & I Still Do. But It’s Not Just Tress Macneille & Corey Burton As The Voices Of Those Little Munchkins, The Most Notable Thing Besides The Nutty Pair Is Gadget Hackwrench. (Seeing’s How It Got Into Disney Life N.K.A Disney+).
I looooove chipmunks. Imagine how beautiful it would of been to see them animated in rubber hose with full length tails? A real chipmunks tail almost moves like it already! Thanks for another great episode!
Great video, Mr. Lee! That was hilarious when you slowed down the video speed to 50% to hear the chipmunks' actual voices: "Oh, boy, I sure took care of him."
My favorite Chip N Dale appearance is in "Out of Scale" featuring Donald's back yard live steam railroad layout. I'm a big fan of model railroading, and so was Walt Disney. The cartoon is faithful to scale model railroading, and it's fun seeing Donald riding his miniature train, just like Walt did. And it's also fun to see how Chip and Dale fit perfectly into the scale model world, and how Donald teases them.
Great work on this. Rescue Rangers is definitely my favorite. I think it being a series with plots meant they could delve a bit more into personality that wasn’t used in comedic shorts. Some of my favorites were that for all the grief Chip in particular gave Dale, he also deeply cared about him.
Bet that Huey, Dewy and Louie is get done first as they are of the main cast while Horace and Clarabelle while prominant in the earlier shorts, have over time become minor characters until the 90's.
Now you mentioned them, I forgot that they too are also part of the Disney main cast, that are still left aside from minor characters such as Horace Horsecollar, Clarabelle Cow and Humphery Bear. Sure, Max Goof is somewhat of a main character but he wasn't thought up until long after the classic cartoons unless you count "Goofy Junior" as being a younger Max or a prototype Max.
Wow. Not only did I learn about their evolution, but now I actually know how to tell them apart! Chip’s nose is like a chocolate chip. Thank you! I’m so ready for Clarabelle and Horace, because I know literally nothing about them.
My favourite Chip n Dale appearance is a personal one. I got to go to Disneyland Paris (then EuroDisney) just weeks after it opened. I was on the Dumbo ride and my mum spotted Chip n Dale greeting kids and signing autographs. My mum ran over and explained to both Chip and Dale that I am a fan but currently riding Dumbo. They looked up, waved and wrote "Hope you and Dumbo had a lovely flight!" And both signed with their signature. I still have that autograph book and every time I go to Disneyland (including Florida as been there too) I would track these characters down and get photos with them.
I have a special place in my heart for the Rescue Ranger designs of these two. The original Rescue Rangers NES game is one of my all-time favorite games :D
As a kid, my favorite Chip n Dale cartoon was the one in which they were bedeviling Donald Duck with a weird bit of dialogue alternating between characters: Apple Corps, Baltimore, Who's your friend, and then someone ("him" or "Me") and whoever was mentioned got hit by an apple. I had no idea was this was about, but it has stayed with me for 40 years.
Oh yeah. That was the cartoon Donald Apple Core. In it he was an apple farmer and he was getting aggravated because Chip and Dale were eating his apples! I loved the apple core diologe the best!
I also just watched the new Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers movie. And let me tell you, It's a SMASH HIT!! You should give it a watch, you're going to really enjoy it.
I love these guys in the Rescue Rangers tv series. I wish that Disney could keep them in that format in any future appearances as a nod to the Rescue Rangers XD
I remember watching the Chip n' Dale rescue rangers show as a young lad and really wanting to live in a house like the one they lived in. (just to let you know i'm not in my 30's i'm 16)
I've gotta be that girl and just say rescue rangers was my favourite, that was my first introduction to the characters. Great video as always, love getting to learn about all these Disney characters!
9:53 - Wow, as a kid, I had assumed that Dale was supposed to be like Joey Gladstone from Full House. He, too, was a goof who tended to wear Hawaiian shirts.
Dave lee down under Woody sent me this link through ancestry - Thank you for the history on this. As a child my parents told me that my great grand mother Dessie Miller did the voice of chip and dale. I believe her husband was artist of Donald Duck. Thanks again- Aaron Enbody
Hi Aaron, thanks so much for reaching out! As Woody may have told you, I'm trying to piece together some information on Dessie - as her time at the Disney studios sadly seems to be very under-documented. I'm not sure if you have any other information than this, but would you mind sending me an email to daveleedownunder@gmail.com so I could get in touch with you. In regards to Dessie's husband - it's interesting because I haven't been able to find the link between her marrying a Miller (though we do know her surname was Miller later in life). However, you mentioning that she married a Donald Duck animator makes me think of John Parr (Jack) Miller who worked in Character Development and contributed to Saludos Amigos (which starred Donald Duck!) - however, I believe he moved to New York in the 1940s, so it's unlikely to be him.
Just think about this: when Chip and Dale became rescue rangers they evolved by wearing clothes, making them more civilised. After that series Disney got rid of their clothes, therefore de-evolving their character and making them less civilised. I think that was a creative mistake. 😆
I remember watching rescue rangers when I was a kid. Some of my favorites are out of scale with Donald and the Christmas one with Mickey and Pluto. They are my favorites
Let's not forget that Chip and Dale hasn't always antoginizing other characters for no reason but to mischievous. Often they get antogonized by other characters and they retaliate. Some examples are: 1. In Corn Chips Chip N Dale minds their own business by shoveling off snow from their tree branch but Donald uses them to their advantage by putting them down on walkway on his yard (without knowing it) and they unwittingly shovel off the snow from his path for him until they hit a fire hydrant on the walkway outside the yard, that's when they realize they have been used and agerily tries to get inside his house to get back at him before discovering the popcorn which leads them to steal them for themselves as they found out how yummy they are. 2. In Chip and Dale, Donald chops down their tree home to use for firewood to keep himself warm and they tries to get it back in which they get in conflict over it. 3. Out on a Limb, not only does Donald cause trouble for Chip and Dale by chopping off branches on their tree and putting tar on the end, he does antogonize them by playing pranks on them with his lopper and he also takes their nuts with it and snacks on them. They realize he is behind all this and get revenge for the trouble, damages and stealing the nuts. 4. In one Pluto cartoon (forgot the title) Chip and Dale had filled their tree with acorns but Pluto decides to hide one of his many precious bones at the base of their tree where the pile of acorn starts, causing all their nuts to fall out and into Pluto's dog house while they accidently make Pluto mad so the conflict is Pluto being annoyed by the chipmunks as well as like dogs are proctective of their territory and their owner's yard in general, while Chip and Dale tries to get their food back (in which Pluto does have no actual interest of and is even unaware of them). These shows that there are some sympathetic plights on Chip and Dale which makes you wanna root for them rather than Donald or Pluto. It is sort of similiar to when Donald plays pranks on his nephews and they get back at him (who can't take a joke to save his life, but to get revenge for the payback and ends up in a war-like conflict, such happened in cartoons such as Donald's Snowball Fight and The Hockey Champ).
Mats Berglinn Many Says That They Don’t Like When Chip And Dale Are Teasing Donald And Pluto But I Think it’s Funny I Love Them Even More When They Do Mischievous Things 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😂❤️🐿🐿
XxBlossom-1003579xX I Understand You’re Thoughts But I Loved Them In The Classic Cartoons And Their Mischievous Stuff I Think Its Funny When They Are Doing Things 😂😂😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🐿🐿But You Have You’re Opinion I Respect That
Yay! Thank you for doing Chip n' Dale! :-D Just adore them. I actually have that Chip & Dale special show recorded on VCR. My favorite classic episode must be when they visit Donald Ducks miniatyre model railway and homes. In swedish they're called Piff & Puff. And i remember from visiting Disneyland resort Paris their french names are Tic & Tac. :-)
Chip and Dale were rather identical when introduced, but I have always managed to tell them apart by looking at their noses ever since Dale’s nose eventually looked more round!
Mine would have to be Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers show is the one I really enjoyed. Knowing they got more fleshed out in their personality and that we got to see new-er (in a since) animated Chip and Dale.
My first intro I recall is that Pluto's Christmas and I loved Chip and Dale and later follow the Rescue Rangers but i don't recall alot until I rewatch it again somehow
Sometimes Chip N Dale Also Fight With Each Other That Happens When Dale Do Something Funny That Chip Gets Angry Or When Dale Does Goof Stuff Or When Chip Always Hit Him In The Head Or Kick Him But I Still Love Them They Always Made Me Laughing 😝😝😍😍😍😍😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I don't like thinking about them as troublemakers. Mischievous yes but their best work is when they are in rivalry or competition, not when they are bad guys. This rivalry and competition could be used more frequently by having them star in more goal oriented cartoons such as having them compete on reality tv style game shows or whacky sports.
I remember a short on an old VHS tape have them as troublesome beavers to Donald Duck as a Park Ranger the name of that short I can't remember but it just a thought maybe chipmunks was a later idea for them and at that time also nameless
