I played once with donkey kong country returns (I don't know if I were playing with Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong) and I've got the game over screen. I later used the Super Guide mode

Too curious, all DK Game Over are kinda... Dark (Exept DK, DKJ, DK3, King of Swing, Jungle Climber and DKCR)

Powerful as Donkey Kong is, just like Bowser, he's not invincible. The original DKC's lost life animation always make me laugh, because after he fell down, he merely just rubbed his head with a funny sound effect. He looked like he could easily get up again, but the game obviously doesn't allow it. In contrast Diddy was torn up. DK64 almost repeated it.

Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2 has the saddest game overs. Donkey Kong Country 2 and Land have the scariest game overs.

To be honest, the DKC3 Game Over is the scariest in my opinion

In Donkey Kong 2 the game over screen turns red possibly being a reference to the cancelled port of D.K. 2 on the virtualboy.
