Evolution of Fierce Deity Link in Zelda Games (2000-2021) 

Is Fierce Deity Link the coolest Link of all time?

The Fierce Deity is probably my favorite piece of Zelda lore ever, even though I think it was originally just an excuse to somehow use adult Link's OoT model in Majora's Mask.

The Hyrule Warriors version does the Fierce Deity so much justice. Love the initial transformation sequence when Young Link puts on the mask.

Why he was not Young Link's Final Smash in Ultimate, I'll never know.

Just a head's up: according to an interview of Aonuma, Fierce Deity is based from Japanese folklore about a vengeful protective spirit born from the hearts of the common people. Which explains why you need all the non-transformation masks just to get the FD mask: the masks you collected contain the hopes and wishes of the people you've helped in Termina.

What is interesting about the Fierce Deity's mask is its the only mask with an 's. Which means it actually belongs to the Fierce deity, which according to majora is an evil even beyond him. Sometimes you need something even more evil to vanquish evil.

God I wish we had more backstory to the Fierce Deity. I mean come on yOU CAN'T JUST MAKE LINK INTO A GOD AND LEAVE WITH NO ANSWERS NINTENDO

If Fierce Deity Link was his own fighter in Smash Ultimate, he would be dummy OP. That's just a fact.

I love how due to system limitations, The Fierce Deity transformation in MM is just horrified adult Link's face, while in Hyrule warriors he's just *FURIOUS*, absolutely *A N G E R Y*.

4:23 is the most powerful link from the timeline. He was able to manipulate time, use the one of the most powerful weapons, etc.

The Fierce Deity's Mask represents the morally nihilistic nature of the world of Termina. Outside of Hyrule, Link has no "chosen hero" status; there is no Master Sword to claim and no Zelda to guide him, both of which symbolized the inherent righteousness of his quest in previous games. He may still hold the Triforce of Courage, but there's no real reason to think that it has any meaning in Termina. In order to obtain the mask, Link must first give away all of the other masks which represent his good acts of service. He then talks to the fifth moon child, who gives him the Fierce Deity's mask, representing pure godlike power. The child presumably speaks for Majora since they wear Majora's mask, and dialogue with them seems to indicate that, like the Skull Kid, Majora is at its core a lonely kid figure. Majora-child tells Link "you're the bad guy" and things play out accordingly. Majora's forms have absolutely no chance against Fierce Deity Link. He mercilessly pounds away at Majora (who gave him the very power he is wielding), seemingly fulfilling the role of "bad guy" that was assigned to him.

God i love using young link in hyrule warriors maps where you get energy to kill mobs, because you can just blaze through them all infinitely w the fierce diety, just like he should be able too

Fierce Deity is such a badass name but the sword needs more attention it's design is INSANE

Something that seems to be lost in adapting Fierce Deity Link is that he is taller than any adult Link. He’s built more like a Ganondorf than a Link.

Of all the amiibos I ended up buying for BOTW, Majora's Mask Link was highly anticipated for me, simply so I could get a hold of that clothes set and corresponding weapon.

Since Link has existed for so long as the Hero of Hyrule, the amount of challenges he faced and the amount of time he honed his skills to face Ganon over and over it wouldn't be far fetched to say that Link's very soul has become that of a Demigod.

This video is exactly what I wanted, very in-context showing of everything! The rising trend of big companies doing multi-universe stories has me hoping for a main series Zelda that does that and only revisit Majora's Mask through that. I do want a revisit to Majora's Mask with new story, but a sequel would be hard to work out and a prequel just isn't what it needs.

nice attention to detail in Hyrule Warriors that they reused OoT Adult Link's battle grunts for Fierce Deity because that's how he sounded in MM, but I fail to see why they didn't just grab the Fierce Deity armor WHICH WAS ALREADY IN BOTW for the Feirce Deity alt in Smash Ultimate

I have to wonder if Nobuyuki Hiyama wasn't available when they were doing the voice work for Young Link's character in Hyrule Warriors, since they WERE able to call back Fujiko Takimoto for his base form...

Fierce deity mask would have been great to use outside of boss battles normally as a better reward for getting all the masks.

sometimes i think that Link doesn`t even control the powers of the Fierce Deity since his body and mind changes so much. but on the end the Fierce Deity sealed inside the mask gives control to Link again since he doesnt want to lose a perfect vessel. So basically Link and FD Link are Sukuna and Itadori from the Nintendo Universe.

Something I find interesting is how the Fierce Deity Link Spirit in SSBU is on Darkons side and in that specific area, it was split between good and evil characters. Is it because that the mask holds the same destructive powers as Majora's Mask? But even then, the Fierce Deity Link is fighting for good. If anything, he should be on the side of light with Majora's Mask on the side of evil.

The armor now also in Tears of the Kingdom, you can find the pieces of it by exploring. Theres also a quest that gives you hints about the locations of it.

What of by some miracle, they find a way to bring the fierce deity's mask back in Botw 2.

The aesthetic of Majora’s Mask is unmatched to this day. As a now Theosophist who was tried to be raised Christian this hecking game takes up even a portion of my spiritual beliefs. I attribute the fact that I excelled in English at school and in life around many other second language students because I liked this game in particular early in my life. I always have such memories of those Gods or whatever they were considered in the cut scenes roaring the way they did in the cut scenes. That game is spiritual. Even the side quests should be looked at to this day to anyone who wants to know what in this world needs saving and preservation. Just unmatched unbelievably good.

Every time I become Fierce Deity, I like to repeat Gozer's question to Ray from Ghostbusters: "Are you... a God?"
