Thanks for watching! Little addition to the video: Halo Reach and 4 had File Browsers before Halo 5. Check it out here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2U017P0Z7T4.html
Would love to see what u think about how a halo battle royale mode would work all the elements are there the vehicles , many different guns , the map can take parts from all halos to make a giant halo map or halo ring ,
This would definitely be ideal, and it's doable! Timesplitters was shown in this video - fitting, as the mapmaker you can use in that series also had a toggle for just that that simplified the controls a lot for a newbie map editor.
Considering how much less is in a destiny map that a halo map forge would just be a custom map maker. It would be cool but it understandable why they haven’t implemented it
Typical Saturday night with each Halo: Halo 3: trying to flip mammoths Halo 4: building giant bases and angering friends by repeatedly baking lights H2A: making a maze of doors Halo 5: building weird and wacky vehicles by welding a bunch of random objects to a mongoose Halo Reach: haha grid go weeeeee
In halo Reach my friend and I do this really dumb thing called "trash compacter": we get as many vehicles as possible on the tall island and then we crush them with the grid. Extremely satisfying.
@@RoachCutscenes I did something similar, but with grab lifts that would launch a kill ball into a box of vehicles that were set to the lowest spawn timer. We tried so hard to break the game in weird ways and it was so fun.
Everything feels plastic and fake in halo 5, I prefer halo reach because even though there isn’t much detail, it feels like you can make everything you want. (Halo 5 is TOO detailed for me)
@@luiiibilll00 No, I didn’t state that, I meant that you can’t place any buildings or actual structures in halo-5 and I like Reach (especially on MCC) more
My man, halo 5 had the best forge hands down. Reach's forge will always have a special place in my heart but the amount of editing power in 5 is just too hard to ignore.
Reach forge was I think was the best balance of being a toy and a tool. The new forge is incredibly powerful and amazing but it’s so technical and it’s not as easy to just slap things together and have fun. It was so fun just to hop into forge and just throw stuff around for fun and make dumb maps. Great video loved it 👍🏼
Halo 5 has a very underrated Forge, I never get tired of the different and fun maps to play on Edit: Bank Heist and save the universe are the best you can’t change my mind.
@@yoyo21926 it’s a forge game mode on halo 5 there are a bunch of versions, it’s basically infection but the survivors run through a maze of sort using weapons and vehicles opening doors
I wouldn't say underrated. I would say it's the best forge, but because the control scheme was so damn different than all the other forges it wasn't as user friendly. So not as many people worked on it. Plus Halo 5 in general had a lower player base in the later years compared to it's previous games
"Even for those who didn't enjoy the campaign" Proceeds to show Master Chief vs Locke I love this channel thanks for inviting the Discord Server! It was loads of fun!
This man puts a lot of time and research into compliling a very indepth video beyond anything I've seen any other channel talk about and actually taught me things I didn't know about the franchise. I just want to say thank you. Thank you for your effort and continuation of these videos.
Halo 5's forge is categorically the best so far. People who like the older forges more often then not didn't take the time to learn Halo 5's forge and if they did and still went back I would wager their reasoning is something along the lines of nostalgia.
@Phillip hanna I can see the issue with 5's controls and lack of premade bases and stuff. I've heard that 343 is going to try to bring all the improvements of 5's Forge while making it easier to understand for Infinite. I certainly wouldn't mind if there was an "advanced mode" for people who want far more control than the standard controls offer.
While I agree that 5's was objectively more advanced, there's more to be had in simplicity. I love seeing the cool things people make in 5, but I absolutely cannot wrap my mind around it to do it myself. While in 3 and Reach, the culture and simplicity of it made it universally appealing. Doing more will always have its drawbacks, but that more is also something important for innovation. Spent so many hours in 3 and Reach's forges doing absolutely anything BUT map making
@@armstronggaming8566 or reach was the true Jumpstart to the creativity that forge offered? It's not that it's better in the technical sense but the fact that it has such an influence on the forges to follow
@@hiimzucky7089 you could also technically say that about 3's forge too, since that was the original one that people used for stuff At this point, it's 5's turn to be what inspires people to build off what they achieved in that game, and use that skill and knowledge in infinite (not the best wording, but I assume you understand)
I feel like it's worth mentioning that H2A's Forge got rid of the budget and replaced it with an object count. In previous titles, certain objects would consume more of the budget than others. This could sometimes make it harder to create larger scale maps. But in H2A each object is just worth 1 on the object count. It's a small change that goes a long way. Also I hope for Halo Infinite they bring back pre-made objects and structures. Having a large selection of primitives is great, but also having those pre-made objects makes the system much easier to learn and get a hold of.
Thank you so much for allowing your Discord members to participate in the video footage; I am always impressed by the quality and editing of your videos (a trend that this video continues), so having to be a small part of that whole process added another personal level of enjoyment while watching!
This makes me super hyped for infinite’s forge. I really wish they give 2 separate control layouts. Like one with the simplistic reach controls and the other with more complex ones. Both could forge side by side but one would be more for casual players / beginner forgers
@@argo9721 why would you need 2 forges? If you have 2 controller schemes you can use the same one at the same time just with different levels of intricate control
This content is really underrated which, I think, is due to something I've dubbed the "Tik Tok effect". The Tik Tok effect has conditioned people to watch shorter videos, to have the quick spikes of dopamine. The short-format videos in which Tik Tok possesses are a perfect thirst-quencher for this type of reaction. However, essay videos such as SameToken's are long-format which doesn't satisfy most users. Most people get bored of it, unfortunately. I'm not asking SameToken to change his ways, I'm merely analyzing why he is underrated. His videos are the most in-depth Halo videos I have ever seen. They are the most well-put-together, well-structured videos I have ever seen, not to mention his voice fitting his style perfectly. Please, keep doing what you're doing!
I never understood why so many people use tiktok I mean there is a reason vine failed. I tried to toke but kept getting pissed off at having to scroll thru dozens to hundreds of garbage or copy cat videos just to get a 20 to 30 second video that barely can be counted as decent content. Wish youtube would get rid of thos videos in my recommendation I almost never watch them.
The level of quality of H5 forge maps is leagues higher than those from any other title. The object variety, the detail, the ability to place and move objects precisely, and everything else has led to maps that completely blow past forge maps out of the water. Whether you like playing H5 multiplayer or not, these maps are the best in the franchise. It is more difficult to learn Halo 5's forge controls, but the payoff has been substantial when you look at what has been created using it. I appreciate that people had fun messing around in the old forges, but this tool is an editor first and foremost. Its purpose is to create fantastic content to be played in custom games and even matchmaking for the best of the best. Forge World was a fun canvas to run around in and add things on top of, but if you're looking to make a serious map a blank canvas with extensive tools and objects is what works best. And there are still other canvases in H5, Alpine and Glacier both provide some interesting terrain to work off of if you want a starting point. The transformation of Forge from a toy to play with to a tool to design with is just the mode fulfilling its intended purpose better and better over time.
That’s a fair point, but also I think Reach’s forge was just such a great balance of both modes. If you knew what you were doing, it was a very powerful tool, but it was also fun to just pick up and play with friends to have a good time with, as Sam mentions. I think Halo 5’s forge would be better if it had two split controller modes; being able to toggle between simple and complex controls, so that pros could still make the good stuff, or you could still just jump in to have fun.
Bro H5 maps look like roblox. Idk how anyone can say the quality is higher than *ANY* other title, ESPECIALLY when you go on to specify "The object variety, the detail." I mean, if you stand by your stance I respect that but I just can't see where you're coming from, and I've seen this argument in other places too. I just don't get it.
I'm almost half way through this video, and I just gotta say, this is one of the most beautifully edited Halo retrospectives I've seen. The cuts, the music, the camera work; well friggen done! (it's very relaxing to watch too, if that makes sense). Also, I love that it's not just the history of the Forge iterations, but the depth you go into for how the community exploited the systems to make the maps and modes they did back then. I myself only recently got back into Halo Reach's Custom Browser on MCC and am STILL being blown away (or just confused how they did it) by what people are doing in Forge today (ie: mini Falcon spawns, weapon shops, giant players, prop hunt mode, base buying, NPC Spartans and Elites on the map).
@@robertogonzalez1907 most people are just too lazy to learn them, unfortunately. I picked up the controls quickly and love the new controls. H5 forge is by far the best. :)
Halo 5’s forge controls are incredibly easy to use. 343’s mistake was the layout of that control hint menu at the side of the screen. Nearly turned me off to the whole thing. Then I actually tried it and it was honestly very intuitive.
The Halo 3 forge experience is so nostalgic. I remember how frustrated I was trying to make my own maps, lol. Getting a full Party Chat filled with friends of friends and playing the popular Halo 3 forge maps like Michael Jackson, Halo on Halo, Jenga, Bull Run, etc etc in 2007 and onward was brilliant. I am so thankful for the Halo 3 community back during its release. I made many friends playing Halo 3 online on a 3-Way split screen with my cousins during the summer or on Xbox Live with everyone after school
True, halo 5’s forge is absolutely WONDERFUL, especially when you incorporate scripting. People who complain that it’s “too hard” just didn’t take the the time to learn, and were probably just grid flippers back in the day.
Combining the age bracket of this fanbase, and the average age bracket of reach itself. I think reach is where forge took off super well because of two things. 1. The player base was huge, and was engaged. 2. Reach was I think the first forge where things really seemed.... Not necessarily "refined" but complete. With those two it sparked the incredible forge community that we all loved so much. My opinion at least.
20:38 the MCC also led to "mods" that involved outer programs for forge manipulation, for example, the Mjolnir Forge Editor for reach's forge world, wich allows the usage of blender for making maps, including it's many array and generation tools, without counting on the budget. --it has an undo action
Nice video! In Infinite, I think everyone wants a custom game browser and a possibility to host dedicated servers where the host could be observing, and maps could be put in map rotation.
Honestly, they all just got better and better yet the amount of innovation was different throughout. Also some of the maps may have been a bummer to some while exciting to others.
I absolutely loved this video. I love forge and im so glad you made this video and seeing the transitions that we grew up in brought back memories! Also lobe seeing others maps and those were some damn good ones.
Halo Reach did have a rated forge map/image/gametype lookup feature, it was Halo 4 that was really disappointing and did not have a view top maps/modes feature for a very long time. Besides addressing it as if Halo 5 was the first to do something like that, I thoroughly enjoyed the tone and nostalgia trip you created for us :) Edit: I believe even Halo 3 had a creators top recommended tab for forge maps as well.
Ah thanks for the corrections! I've created this little update video linked in a pinned comment: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2U017P0Z7T4.html
I really hope Infinite's forge brings back the easy to use controls and system of Reach and 4's forge while still having a ton of options and features like 5's.
Halo Infinite needs to fix Five’s bugs and add in AI enemy spawns. It should also implement a less daunting looking control scheme layout. And I say “daunting looking” because the controls are actually very easy to use after messing with them for like an hour, but the way they are displayed on the screen looks intimidating.
He may not get as much views as others but he still dedicates himself to making lengthy, educational, some of the best videos I've watched. I can't wait for what halo infinite offer!!
Seeing how far forge has come since my time in Halo 3 makes me so incredibly happy! I'm glad that it has grown so much and that people still love to use it to create incredible masterpieces. This is why I love Halo and I hope to see it continued in Halo Infinite.
The grid really could entertain my brother and I for hours especially after a long day of school. We would fling Objects and each other across the map non stop until dinner
Second video I watched of you and I’m enjoying the content! The first vid was like 11 months ago about plasma lol. Congrats on finishing up University too! (Hopefully idk lmao)
Some of the best maps I ever made was on halo 3 and reach. Idk how many hours I would spend making custom maps for halo parties back then lol I miss those days
Man I remember playing Halo Reach forge mode with friends we made a game we called banshee baseball. We used the grid and spin it around to use as a bat while one of used a banshee to fly into to see who could get out of the world boarder first. Those were the good old days.
[EDIT] Amazing video, btw AI would be a great inclusion in Infinite. My favourite Forge creations where Halo 5's adventure maps, which would drop you into a campaign level-of-sorts (such as an abandoned lab) and you had to find your way through the various scenarios by solving puzzles and interacting with both obvious and obscure objects in the environment. There were some really cool atmospheric ones with immersive environmental storytelling. Obstacle course maps were also awesome, enhanced by Halo 5's Spartan Abilities, which you had to sometimes use with great precision to overcome a specific part. Loved those.
The original Forge program actually made a pair program called Anvil that was used to change physics shapes and sounds and was used together with Forge in marathon.
Ah man I remember being a kid and making tons of custom games and playing a whole of of different games with all my friends on Halo 3 on the xbox 360, Miss those times where it was a bit more simpler than the world is now. Had a lot of fun laughing and playing custom games and building wacky structures. :) Man, it was a good time, Now I hope my kid can have just as much fun as I used too.
I would say the main reason why I prefer reach's forge over 5's is that fact it was more of a playground. Forge world required you to be creative and envisioning what could be. While 5 is the blank slate. Both have their benifits. It's just how I go about in creating.
I just recently got done with the two-month build in Forge recreating my room like it's a little action figure War it is so amazing what forage is turn into
Halo Reach was my all time favourite halo game, and it's forge I'd say was probably the best due to the simplicity but also the quality of life improvements such as Phasing and stuff, I remember first watching the reveal and I was so excited about Forge World. On the subject on what I'd love for Halo Infinite Forge, AI placement. I feel being able to place various different AI like Spartans, Elites, Grunts, basically any type of enemy or ally in the game would be good, imagine Team Based Custom Games with AI team mates assisting you, or even something on a similar scale go an actual campaign mission (minus the dialogue or cutscenes) made in forge. This I feel would make forge one of the most evolved and best features in Halo as a whole.
I was 10 when reach came out, and even as a child forge mode was just so easy to use and fun to use, me and my friends would spend days making the perfect map so we could get all our friends on it to mess around for a night. I honestly say I remember having those memories with 3 (granted I was 8) or the latter games
Halo Infinite's Forge just needs to have 2 modes: Classic Mode: controls are just like Halo 3/Reach, with same menu system and actual control of movement in forge mode (keep it where you move around the object, that's nice). If you want any advanced features, you just go into an "advanced" menu. Modern Mode: basically Halo 5's movement and control scheme, with all of the advanced controls, options and menus more readily available. This way, a n00b can hop into forge and have a fun, familiar experience with a short learning curve and can have a blast spawning tanks and quickly moving weapons around in a map, but the pros who want to build fully scripted custom maps can also do their thing.
i remember on xbox 360, where i build a training area for new recruits for our clan, wich started of with a troll. a straight sprint where mines would spawn randomly along the course... after that, parkour climbing on the tiniest items and the hardest jumps, (i made sure they where possible) we trained alot of players with parkouring with my map!
Halo 5's forge mode alone is why I wish it'd come to MCC. And I know there's a separate Forge mode application on Windows 10. Since I don't feel like buying the game on Xbox or downloading that standalone app, I have yet to try 5's forge mode out yet. But it looks awesome!
I feel like one other thing that couldve been mentioned wit H5's forge was the weapon pad glitch that the forge team left in, where it swapped weapon properties and allowed for wild, out of this world weapons for custom games
