The story of how the G3 came into being is one of my favorites. Basically Germany wanted to employ FN to provide them with FAL rifles, but the Belgians (to some degree understandably considering the history) said no, so Germany basically said "Fine, we'll make our own FALs!" and developed the G3.

Germany initialy had some licensed built Heckler & Koch Gewher 1 (FALs), however H&k bought CETMEs rifle reinforced to withstand NATOs 7.62x51mm pressure, it was then put to compete in Bunderswehr to replace their G1s, with CETMEs rifle winning the competition nd deseguinated a G3

You imply that the G3 and FAL are the same. This is false. They couldn't be more different, and have nothing to do with each other, beyond using the same caliber cartridges. Completely different. No connection at all.

There's a bit of misinformation in this thread that needs to be cleared up. The newly formed Bundeswehr initially adopted the G1 as their standard rifle, and the Belgians were willing to sell it to the Germans (they ultimately sold 100K of them). However, once the topic of licence production came up that's when the Belgians refused, and the Germans instead took to adapting the CETME rifle into the G3.

The Bundesgrenschutz is basically the most Wehrmacht of all the West German security services. They used the same Stahlhelm as the Wehrmacht, the same cut of uniform as the Wehrmacht, the same boots as the Wehrmacht (just with an additional "democratic boot buckle" to make it not-Wehrmacht), used the same guns as the Wehrmacht, and are allowed to sport the same awards as the Wehrmacht (cleansed of any past symbolism obviously)...

It would be cool but unlikely seeing Germany before its unification existed out off 32 states with each there own uniform and depending on the regiment and where from the uniform might change where talking easily around a 100 different uniforms So as I said unlikely its sadly unlikely but understandable

As a former Soldier who served in the Bundeswehr, the timeline presented here from the olive to flecktarn to the modern variations seems inaccurate and wierdly explained. Main points I can direction adress: - No mention of the Lockkoppel, a equipment system that came before any proper wests and is still given out to recruits today xD basically a harness that you can attach mag pouches, pouches etc to. - the Flakwest which was depicted to be 2001 till present is also not accurate, the basic Flakvests are one of the few equipment items actually fully phased out very quickly xD - No mention of the actual full West system and "Infanterist der Zukunft" loadout, which came in multiple variations and included stuff like fully modular Vests incoporating SK4 protection - "in 2005 it became noticeably muted". I mean, thats what happens with old uniforms, yeah. New ones were still brightly coloured. I had both sets of old and new pants + field blouses and the old stuff which went through many reuse cycles was muted, new stuff was more vibrant. - Only mentioning G36A2, which is a very old model and afaik most of the afgahnistan kits had the G36K modular system (I personally saw / had training with A3/4). And most these Infos can be found my lookin at basic wikipedia pages even. This video gave me a feeling that the Bundeswehr part of the video was just poorly put together for looks and not really properly research or theres a point im entirely missing.

I think, the FG-42 isn't usually considered an assault rifle. (Select fire, intermediary cartridge, and a detachable box magazine.) FG-42 still uses the full sized 8mm Mauser cartridge. But I'm no expert.

Maybe battle rifle? its really hard to put it somewhere because supposedly it was also supposed to be used as a squad automatic weapon with its bipod and open bolt (on full auto) design.

FG-42 is basically an automatic rifle that does the job of a standard infantryman rifle (Kar98k) and a light machine gun (MG42) at the same time. Ultimately its a specialist weapon for paratroopers as its multi role weapon that sacrificed durability and cost to make a weapon that could be carried by paratoopers on combat jumps.

The Bundeswehr hasn't gotten the G95 yet. They are in the final stages of evaluation. Also, the G95 that is going to be adopted is the A8 model of the 416.

It should be mentioned that after reunification, the NVA wore their uniforms for sometime but modified with bundeswehr insignia, there are a few videos of NVA soldiers marching and drilling right after reunification. I will post in replies if I find them.

Mobast (The Carrier System) and KBS SK (Combat Gear and Uniform) is still very limited available in the Bundeswehr. We barely have enough to equip our infantry forces. As for the so called HK416, it's supposed to replace the G36 by the end of this year, but somehow i haven't seen a single one of those yet...

17:50 The opening of the borders happened on Nov. 9th 1989 in reaction of a statement by Günter Schabowski during a press conference between 18:53 and 19:01, where he mistakenly declared that GDR citizens could travel to West Germany, and West Berlin, omitting the provisio that that would constitute a permanent emigration. The news was spread through West German media, specifically the main news segment Heute of the public broadcaster ZDF at 19:17. The news spread like wildfire throughout East Berlin and the rest of the GDR within reach of western media. East German citizens started to gather in huge crowds at the six checkpoints, until the checkpoint Bornholmer Straße was opened on 22:45 to relieve the mounting pressure. Thus the Wall came down on Nov. 9th.

The olive green uniforms and the M1 helnets were still widely used until the mid 90s. The only Flecktarn equipment I had in 1994 were the Kampfrucksack (battle backback) and helmet cover, which was designed for the M92 helmet and therefore didn't really fit the old M1 steel helmets. As far as I remember units like the German-French Brigade. My sergeant who transfered from that brigade to my artillerie unit even had to return his Flecktarn uniform and get the old olive green uniform. During my basic training due to equipment shortage my unit (and probably many more) got AK bayonets that we, of course, couldn't fit to our G3 assault rifles, which were from the early 1960s. So, it is possible that my father who was in the same unit as I during his basic training was trained on the same rifle as I. 😂

A few points to the uniform, various units still use the 1990 helmet and only the ksk has the g95 while the infantry will get their hands on them in 2024-2026, also we have different uniforms for different Branches, we have the lochkoppel from the 2nd World war for non infantry units, then we have mobast for infantry and idz for panzergrenadiere and ksk

Could you please cover the civil war in El Salvador that happened back in the late 1970’s-1980’s? My grandparents/parents were both refugees that fled, we lost family members just like many others. I’m only 20, I was never there and learning about that time in our history is important to me. I just never ask my family out of respect for their trauma, I don’t wanna make anyone relive those memories. (Asking again >:D)

A whole section you could've added; Friedensheer. Inbetween the end of war and 1919, the Friedensheer kept peace in Germany, they had blue lines on their uniforms. There's a wiki page on them I'm sure of it.

I collect a lot of modern and cold-war era camo patterns and field jackets, and by far the best looking contemporary stuff is German. The Flecktarn pattern is just pure fire, and East German Strichtarn is pure drip. West German gear is definitely monotone, but it just looks absolutely sleek, especially their Forstergrun Polizei jackets.

A common mistake but, Tropentarn refers to the fabric which is lightweight and breathable for arid climates and is instead used with the standard woodland Flecktarn colors. Wüstentarn is the actual name of the desert pattern camouflage (Also produced in Tropentarn type fabric). These are the official names used by the Bundeswehr.

Great vid, but I have a small gripe: the colour of the Wehrmacht M 1935 field tunic was a greenish-grey. This colour was introduced in July 1929 and given the traditional but inaccurate title Feldgrau (field grey). Trousers were mid-grey. The Wehrmacht adopted full mid-grey uniforms with the M 1940 field uniform in 1940/41. And another aspect you didn't cover was the early field uniform of the Bundeswehr in the 1950s, which used extensive camouflage.

Fun Fact: After the second world war the Bundesgrenzschutz had kept a lot of the former Wehrmacht Equipment and Traditions, They re-used: the Stahlhelms, Guns, Camouflage Smocks and also used similar Uniforms and Boots which were based off the original Wehrmacht Uniforms. The fact that they used Machine Guns and Camouflage Smocks is already to crazy. Sometimes the Bundesgrenzschutz was also referred to Germany's 2nd Military. The weirdest thing about this is, that the Bundesgrenzschutz nowadays is the Bundespolizei (Federal Police).

I have an HK416 only it fires the rounds of 22s still is a pretty awesome weapon. Even the French are doing the same thing adding that as their main rifle.

Wir hatten bei der Bundeswehr im Jahre 1994 /95 noch grüne Uniformen. Flecktarn Splitterschutzwesten gab es schon und einige Offiziere hatten Flecktarn Uniformen. Der Helm war immer noch der alte Bundeswehr Stahlhelm.

please do a video on these (this is a copy and paste list for a few channels) units and tactics/evaluation of loadouts of troops (from different jobs (and other branches) like the 82 snd 101 airborne units or infantry tank units, (or when tanks were assigned a infantry unit like i think earlier war Russia then all tanks were formed into there own units wich meant the infantry no longer knew the true strength of there own tanks but alowed tank units to fight more efficiently) the tank doctrine of countries evaluation of tank veiw ports evaluation of tanks/armored vehicles of different countries evaluation of aircraft types of different countries, different between navil and army/air force fighters logistics units of the axes and allied powers in ww2 ww1 estern front tactics Russian Civil war tactics and strategies navil ship cross sections (all the rooms and how it all works) evaluation of types of ships or evaluation of navil warfare air craft carrier strike group formations exsamples (from different countries) ancient persan ships, ancient veneti ships (gauls that fought ceaser) ships used by genoa and the vernesain republic the vernesain republic government all sailing ships, (i know theres many on yt but some contradict each other and i think theres more left out) cast vs welded vs rivited tank armor 2b9 vasilyok morter tactics used so far in the Ukraine war, better for squads to be 2 teams of 5 or 3 teams of 3, and probably the easiest, better to keep troops well feed or starved like an animal how dose age effect comsnders eg napoleon got older so took less risks, ancient urban warfare ww2 tactics in Asia, tactics in the Chinese age of warlords, (and Chinese civil war) tactics in the ruso jap war cold war navil tactics, Korean war tactics, strange tactics or unque battles from the American war of independence and America civil war how were 17th centry sailing ships build types of bombs lunched by drones comands given on sailing ships (like ease the sheets and get ready to chine, or slack n beases, basically things you hear movie capitns say) why did the nazis never return (or a video on best occupations) why did the Japanese empire fall, dont just say "America" like things like how there army and navy argued alot alot more on the Polynesians and māori, but please learn pronounceations if you do this

Raichswehr(1919〜35)の初期軍服は変わりようがすごいんですよね。資料が少なすぎる謎のデザイン袖が採用された1919型軍服が存在したが1920年から27年まで袖デザインが改められ8つボタンの軍服が安定して使い続けられる。動画のような軍服は確か28年に採用されるが資料の中にはWW2に登場したm40と酷似したバトルスーツが採用されたりする。調べれば調べるほどraichswehr は興味をそそります。
