So I was going to do the Lisa Ortiz Amy Voice evolution, but one part of the video is taking a while to get done. So in the meantime, I decided to make the other big request I got, Evolution of Jason Griffith as everyone’s favorite edgelord, Shadow the Hedgehog. I think he was a great Shadow, who like most of the other characters took a while to find a definitive voice, got amazing when he got the voice nailed down after a few episodes. He gave him a true edge and serious tone that makes him the voice I will always associate with the edgy edge. I even included his recent appearance in the fan made radio drama, Sonic and Tails R where he still nails the voice even over a decade later. Anyways, credit to the original owners and enjoy the edgiest voice evolution ever.

People say that it was the Shadow game that Jason perfected his Shadow voice. I kinda feel like he perfect his Shadow in Sonic '06. His voice just sounds more distinct at that point. There's a little more grit to his voice which makes Shadow's voice sound really good. But I feel like Jason's Shadow voice has gotten better over the years. His voice in Sonic and Tails R is probably my favorite.

That's because Jason Griffith voiced both Sonic and Shadow from the early to late 2000s. Shadow did sounded like a more deeper haughtier version of the Blue Blur in Sonic X (most noticably in the series grand finale).

Great video! Jason has evolve so much as Shadow since the early 2000s. His best vocal performances was in season 2 of Sonic X, Sonic 06, Sonic Rivals 2, and Sonic and Tails R: Episode 6. He made Shadow such a babe! 😘😍

2006 is when I could really tell Jason for a handle on his version of Shadow. He absolutely nailed it, and his story in the 06 game (regardless of the game itself) is the best depiction of Shadow imo.

Hate to break it to you two, but Jason ain't coming back as Shadow. It was confirmed in an interview with some of the people who work on the movies that they're planning on getting celebrities for Shadow, and sadly Jason isn't really considered that outside of the Sonic community

The “something important” you find out, is Shadow’s dna was meant to be used at a template for a cure. So Gerald Robotnik could create a cure for his granddaughter’s disease. But, because if GUN’s intervention on the Ark, Maria died, and Gerald went mad with grief, being executed years later. It was all a tragedy. But then, it made sense that Shadow and Gerald desired revenge. Maria had a chance; so close to living a normal life on Earth, and people took it away from her. A tragedy to be sure. Luckily, Shadow chose to be a hero. Well, an anti-hero. It’s poetic how his protecting the Earth was the only good thing to come out of that tragedy. He’d even defied his other creator: Black Death. The leader of the Black Arms, which aided Gerald in creating Shadow. In the end, Shadow made his own fate, chose his own destiny, and despite him still having a reserved, steely exterior, after all that, he still respects Sonic, and cares about everyone deep down. Despite this, his serious demeanor remains, he never lets his guard down, as he won’t let anyone die like Maria ever again. The Ark changed him forever, but Sonic did too.

More like overrated performance. Jason is not only overrated as Sonic, but as Shadow too. Lots of his fans often bash David Humphrey’s Shadow when he gave Shadow emotion. I will say that I can see the appeal since he sounds pretty calm and he improved in Sonic and Tails R.

@@JustAnAverageSonicFan Griffith's Shadow is able to show emotions, just in a more restrained and introverted way than Humphrey's. It comes in contrast with Sonic's expressive and playful tone and I think it works really well. David Humphrey's Shadow is also great, but he can sound overly sassy sometimes (like in that famous 'faker' scene for example). I think the difference between the voices comes mostly from the changes in personality that the writers gave Shadow from game to game.

David Humphrey is the GOAT of Shadow, but Jason Griffith is up there with him. He started off pretty rough in Sonic X just like he did with Sonic, but he quickly improved a lot when he got into the games in contrast to his Sonic performance, which took 3 years for him to grow into his own take on Sonic instead of imitating Ryan Drummond. However in the games I think he was trying to sound edgier which made him come off as forced in some games like 06, but he still had that underlying potential to do a perfect Shadow voice. Then, when they got him back in Sonic & Tails R, they gave him a new vocal direction, and I loved it! His portrayal in S&TR was borderline perfect, since they directed him the same way as Humphrey in Heroes; snarky but serious. He sounded more normal than edgy and stopped whispering, which really worked for his performance. Honestly, if not for David reprising his role in Sonic & Tails R Episode X, David and Jason would be nearly tied imo for Shadow.

Actually it’s Ryan Drummond. They switched voice actors between Jason’s shadow and Drummonds sonic. Drummond actually voice a lot of shadows lines in SA2 for the final battle because David Humphrey wasn’t there to record
