Wow... I was reading some of the comments on this video and it made me sad to read people arguing over who's better than who and who's more Latin and a bunch of other nonsense. We should appreciate each other's cultures because they are all beautiful. I think it's awesome to have so many different cultures among Latin America. Instead of wasting time arguing about who is the "best", we should get to know other cultures and expand our minds.... Besides we all know that where I come from is the best 😂😂😂😂 Just kidding! Except for "Cumbia" every freaking dance is from Central America or Caribe. You forgot South American dances like Tango, Marinera, Peruvian Cumbia, Vallenato, Saya, Argentinan Cumbia, even Samba, (They are Latin too)... Maybe that's why when American thinks of "latinos" they imagine these dances and white clothes.

Everyone calm down and stop hating on the Caribbean. Considering that all these styles are from the Caribbean means that their picking dances by region. So a part 2 would focus on another part like South America.

Hey, I love the idea and the realization but being a dancer of Latin styles (and not ballroom ones but the Cuban roots rumba or chachacha among others) I must just point out one thing which is crucial: off counts. And maybe giving a little bit of intro for those who are not into the dance world professionally and say a few words about this evolution? Because the ballroom representation is the evolved and accustomed mainly European and American versions of original Caribbean danzas and without this info we can be super confused what is what and where it does come from :) but hey, dancers are super dope so just a small remake in other parts and gonna be a total blast!

These are some but not all dances, they are mostly Caribbean. This is a list of dances that rules in no order in particular: Son, ranchera, Tango, milonga, candombe, Samba (Brazilian) and Zamba (Argentinean), Chamamé, Chacarera, Malambo, Cueca, Escondido, Gato, Pericón, Zamacueca, Landó, Festejo, Tinkus, Caporales, Carnavalito, Lambada, Forró, Chotiz, Danzón, Cuarteto, Wadu-Wadu and many others I can't recall right now. Latinamerican culture is widely vast and doesn't end in reggaetón.

People use to say here in Brazil that brazilians are not latinos.... sometimes I agree. Those rythms are rarely danced in Brazil. And when people think about latin rythms they rarely think about any brazilian one!!

"Perreo" (reggeaton) originates from playero which originates from reggae. I feel both styles were mainstream music in the 90s and 80s and deserved to be on the list. other than that, I loved it. Wonderful dancers and routines :)

This video was made about latinx, by latinx, for gringos. The dances represented are those gringos have heard of or are familiar with. There are even some modern ones thrown in there at the end with a bit of influence from hip-hop, and that's not a bad thing: the problem is you're showing your gringo audience what the already know and are comfortable with, therefore asegurando sus views y likes. Es un complidado de las danzas típicamente latinas. But you're leaving out so much. Latino dances can be ubeat, sabrosas y sensuales like these, but they can also be elegant like the argentinan tango or the peruvian marinera. They can be solem and ritualistic, they can be strong and representative of warriors and thier battles. They can celebrate life or worship a deity. They can be danced in heels and a mini-falda, or in woolen, colorful, ropa autóctona, decorated with feathers or cow hide. My land, Bolivia, is happy, is sabrosa, is solem, is elegant. My land has a motive for every sound in it's music, like the matraca mimiking the sound of a slave's dragging chains in the morenada. My land feels every happy and criollo zapateo when the man wins over the woman in the cueca. Dances tell stories. Here, you're barely saying anything all. And yes, merengue and salsa and bachata all have thier stories, but they are not all of latin america and they alone don't help with the better understanding of us and our rich cultures. I'd like a part 2. Stick some bolivian tinku in there. It'd be fucking awsome.

I think that the only thing that videos like this do is perpetuate and strengthen a one-dimensional and monolithic conception of what being "latin" is. And the problem is that not only does this conception come from the Anglo-saxon American imaginary of the "exotic peoples" south of the border but it is also being accepted and even assimilated by Latin-Americans themselves (this video is a proof of that). I am a Latin-American living in Latin America and I don't feel identified with this, not one bit. This video should be called "Compilation in no particular order of Caribbean Dances" and even that would be a simplification. Yes, the idea of Latin-American unity is nice and we do have history and cultural features that are intrinsic in the demonym, but putting all of is under the same label and catering and even marketing to us as if we were one demographic is like saying that an Israeli and a South Korean are the same because they're both "asians".
