There are seven main installments of video games and various media spin-offs, including music albums and a series of manga books. The first game in the series, Soul Edge, was released as an arcade game in 1995 and was later ported to video game consoles; the widespread success of its first sequel Soulcalibur in 1998 led to Soulcalibur becoming the name of the franchise, with all subsequent installments also using the name. More recent games in the series have been released for consoles only and have evolved to include online playing modes.

Because the west release of the game changed the name for Soul Blade, in Japan calls Soul Edge, ( the name for evil sword)

Man oh man I remember in high school after school my buddy’s and I would smoke a ton of weed and play soul calibur afterwords. Great times. Unfortunately I never see or speak to any of them anymore.

I figured out how soulcalibur got its name its from the sword Excalibur but they removed the ex and put soul next to calibur

For historical Clout. Battle Arena Toshinden inspired Soul Edge if i recall correctly. ALSO i've noticed later generations like renaming original titles and then adding some phrase. This really doesn't help anything. (Noticed Pokemon is NOW called "indigo League" among other games etc. )
