- Our today’s plan is to bring to a conclusion the story of the Spanish railways - by discussing the development and evolution of the AVE trains (of course, we did not miss the opportunity to mention other trainsets that also operate on the AVE network).
This episode is interesting because we talk about different manufacturers that produce the rolling stock for the Spanish market, but also the open architecture of the Spanish HSR tracks and structures, that allow the use of those different manufacturers.
This is actually quite different from the approaches of the majority of HSR countries, where the infrastructure is designed to work with only one, or a specific type of manufacturer.
As we pointed out in the last episode, most of the HSR network in Spain is covered by the ERTMS system, so almost all trains, in addition to the Spanish train management system, also have an onboard ERTMS device. Some of them also operate in France.
We spoke about the design and performance of the Renfe Classes 100, 101, 102, 112, 103, 106, Avant S-104, S-114, S-121, Alvia S-120, S-130, and S-730.
Do you think we managed to present the main aspects of the Spanish AVE trains? Tell us in the comments below!

today's news in the Spanish press: The Madrid-Barcelona high-speed line has increased 20% data from 2019 (pre-pandemic). If the liberalization of the sector continues to affect the drop in ticket prices these numbers will grow much more.

Cool video. It’s a bit sad that talgo didn’t follow the duck nose trend on the final design of the talgo avril.
@kaekae4010
@kaekae4010 2 года назад
I suppose that one of the reasons is that the new tractor is more compact than the previous one, and there was not much aerodynamic gain by sticking out the nose. The new set is not more attractive because of that detail, but on the other hand it looks really compact and integrated throughout the set. One of the most compact and light in the world. For me that is also a very characteristic sign of a Talgo.
@El-Mengu
@El-Mengu 2 года назад
The S/102, S/112, S/130, S/730 and prototype S/107 Avril's characteristic nose shape is patented by Bombardier and Talgo didn't reach an agreement to keep using it, hence the new, uglier shape.
@juanfrancisco9417
@juanfrancisco9417 2 года назад
Just one clarification: The locomotive of the AVE S-102/-112 (Duck) and S-130 (Duckling) are also designe and manufactured by Spanish company TALGO, but the traction system of the locomotive is from Bombardier company. As I understand it, the TALGO Avril is completely Spanish (I personally liked the previous desing with the shape of ducks's bill better).

There is also the RENFE class 107. They are dual gauge, dual voltage using new Talgo Avril locomotives with refurbished Talgo VII carriages modified for dual gauge and 300km/h. These carriages were previously used in the cancelled Trenhotel service. Talgo calls these units "Serie-107"

@tucuuk
@tucuuk 2 года назад
@@MEGATBLAZER The Talgo S-106 (Renfe class 106) are 100% new. The Talgo S-107 are new locomotives with refurbished carriages.

Yeah but headaches for engineer and technicians, standardisation will be better in terms of maintenance issues If Madrid-Seville HSR (and maybe other HSR lines) constructed in Iberian gauge, maybe rollingstock will be much more standardized, because you don't have to deal with different gauge, except for international services to France Personally i like push pull type instead of EMu, they are just simple

7:17 The S/102 and S/112 have better acceleration overall than the S/103. This is very noticeable if you've ever driven the 112 and 103 series in the Madrid-Barcelona line, which I have; the 103 struggles to pick up speed on ramps and doesn't top out at 300 km/h as quickly as the 112. I have to admit the driving cab and seat is more comfortable in the 103 than the 102/112, though.

I dont agree it took 3 mins 45mins to get up too 186 from 0 one of tge fastest
@El-Mengu
@El-Mengu 2 года назад
I don't know what that 186 is about, but the top speed is 300 in that line. Plus, your experience as a passenger is highly subjective. Driving conditions, ETCS, being way ahead of schedule... There are many factors that affect a train's speed, which is what you probably experienced. But when one drives both series it's apparent the 112 is more of a powerhouse than the 103.
