Endurance bikes have come on leaps and bounds in recent years, but their development has brought them rather close to gravel bike territory.
Are the steeds that so many recreational riders love in danger of losing their appeal, or are the additions of wider tyres and aero frame touches beneficial?

Are endurance bikes for you? Let us know which one you'd have!

I had a Triban RC 120 and now I ride an Aspera 2.0 by an Indian Brand called Convolution.

Endurance bikes are the best! My BMC roadmachine is stiffer than many race bikes. Fast, efficient, comfortable for all day rides.

Living in the Midwest near Trek HQ where there are almost no public gravel roads and our actual roads are typically very rough, the endurance bike is the perfect bike for me. I no longer feel beat-up at the end of a ride... something that becomes increasingly important as I age and my body becomes less tolerant of "abuse" from my bike.

Loving all the Endurance bike releases this year. I'm sure about all the suspension though. Thinking about getting the new Giant Defy.

I just recently bought an Endurace. I wish I had changed to an endurance bike years before. I’ve been riding a road bike for decades. I haven’t had this much enjoyment on a bike since I was a kid. I’m old and the comfort I get with the endurance bike is way better than my race bike. But I’m still collecting a few local KOM on this bike so the bike isn’t slow nor am I completely dismal at riding.

I just replaced my old Canyon Ultimate with the newly released Canyon Endurace. My ego said I should stick with the pure race geometry of the Ultimate but I’m getting on now and had a bunch of spacers under the stem of the Ultimate. So I got the new Endurace and slammed the stem (super easy to do with these new models without remove the stem) so it has the same effective stack height as my old Ultimate but the really big thing is that with the VCLS seat post and fatter tyres with ride over rough bitumen in my area just smooths the ride out so much that I feel fresher after the end of the 50km and 80km tempo pace rides I’ve done in the last few days. The average speed is the same on the new bike but I’m more comfortable on the bike with the lux ride. I was a bit worried moving to the Endurance bike would be less fun but in fact it’s more fun when you’re going just as quick and getting a more comfortable ride at the same time. I’m sold on it.

My first road bike is a Triban RC520 My next bike also would be 100% an endurance bike with mudgard and frame packing abilities, with at least 38mm tyre clearance. hopefully a good alloy, or affordable carbon frame, thru-axles, hydro breaks, but I am all right with mechanical 105, but I'd look for the new, 12 speed option for a nice big range of teeth

I've been riding an Allied Alfa AR for the last four years. For me, it made riding fun again. Running 35mm tires, I can enjoy Arkansas's rough pavement, tons of gravel, and the occasional single track.

I opted for an endurance bike (Specialized Roubaix). Better for what I use if for most, which paved. It can foray into light offroad enough for me. When the going gets rough, the MTB comes out.

My Scott Speedster Gravel from 2018 resembles an endurance bike more than a gravel bike of 2023. I use it for weekend rides and end up less beat up than my friends at the end

I've just bought a Vitus Substance VRS, forget an "endurance" bike this has decent usable gearing from the off (GRX 30/46 by 11-34) and can do light off roading- and if I want to do road specific stuff I've got DT Swiss road wheels I can put in.... Might even sell the Vitus Razor Disc(remove the 105 groupo, put it back to stock wheels and Sora) next year as road riding is getting too scary anyway...All road bikes are overgeared for the old/heavier riders that live places that have hills and mountains to contend with...

Ciclocross, you have it all, you can use 38/40 tires for endurance or gavel use, if you need more and have skills and some technique then you'd need a mtb better, and you can use 30 for road an 33 for ciclo

Endurance bikes? It's already endurance just keeping up with 'different' types of bikes!
@sjurk81
@sjurk81 9 месяцев назад
There really is no reason why a recreational rider should need a 'regular' racy roadbike. If you don't race, you don't need it. If you want to impress friends with KOMs just get some aerobars and deep section wheels and enjoy the KOM until a pro passes through your segment on a training ride. Riding in an agressive position may look cool, but most recreational riders can't do that all the time, especially with the core stability most riders have. Just have fun, get an endurance fit.

All I need is a frame with the correct geometry for my body (high stack/reach ratio) and enough clearance for actual 28mm tyres (easy to get with rim brakes). All the other marketing gimmicks for dentist builds are of no interest to me. Especially not the cancer called integrated cables.

the main reason most ppl could use an endurance bike is because it will fit them better than a pure race bike. You can also run more aggressive parts if you wanted

I use my Ritchey Swiss Cross with 700x38c tires and do rides at 30 avg no problems. With it's 432mm chain stay and front center off set the higher BB and it's stable and with slightly higher stack height than my race bike it's my favorite bike to ride. I love pulling it off the wall and taking it out.
