The Mazda 787B is one of the most iconic race cars of the Gran Turismo franchise and it has appeared in every major GT game from GT3 to GT7. Here you can see the car in action in each game and also its showcase at the garage or car dealer.

The Mazda 787B was the first Japanese car to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991 and it was the first Group C car to appear in Gran Turismo, with all the others only being added in GT4.
In Gran Turismo 3 the car is not for sale in simulation mode and can only be won as a prize car. In arcade mode it can be unlocked by completing the last set of tracks on hard difficulty.
From GT4 to GT Sport the car is permanently available at the dealer but the price varies quite a lot, reaching over 5 million credits in GT5.
In Gran Turismo 7 the car will sometimes show up at the legend car dealer.
In GT2 and GT7 the car is featured in One Lap Magic missions against other Mazda cars.

A legendary in Japan because it is their first Le Mans winner car ever, by outlasting the more powerful cars on the grid at that particular race. Banned simply because FIA wanted all cars to run piston engines.

BTW, rotaries eventually came back after the 3.5L regulations fell through, although they were mostly run under IMSA rulebook, at least in the 90s.

This is not the menu! There is no red maxda rx/8 as a background.... It is the Japanese dealer. GT3... few lights and / or contrasts near the liveries (understandable defect) in spite of a great artificial intelligence. Difficult, as much as driving behind the wheel the magnificent rear-wheel drive Ford GT 40 '69; my favorite. ALWAYS 'cause continue oversteer. As they told Cars "turn right to go left" 🥰

@@MrNubOfficial Do you still have it? I was playing it last week on my backwards compatible PS3. I drill need to get the Escudo but I have the Viper with about a thousand HP. It's much harder to get credits on this game than GT4.

@@Paragleiber Oh right. How many endurance races have you done in GT4? I've only done the shortest ones. My best cars are the Toyota Minolta race car, Zonda, Cerbera, XJ220 race car, Audi R8 Concept and Mitsubishi HS2 Concept. You have to try the last two cars, they're insanely fast in the Capri rally. I just do that to get money.

Es ist echt erstaunlich, wie der 787B schon seit GT3 seinen Rotor 4 Schrei bekommen und behalten hat. Polyphony hat von der Soundpalette in den letzten Jahren einen Gewaltigen Sprung nach Vorne gemacht. Keine der Autos klingt noch nach Staubsauger. Nur der 787B hat seit GT3 eigentlich immer gleich geklungen. Außer in GT (PSP) da war das Getriebe lauter als der Rest des Wagens xD

Well, it does need to survive 24 hours without stop, and considering the rotary engine’s design at the time, I think it’s ok that they didn’t put one, it already sounds godly even without it.
