I feel like having the date include the year the video was released is a stupid idea because there is literally no content past 2013 what if a 2018 mario game came out with timer deaths also if it's truly up to 2018 then why is super mario maker (even if it is similar to the other games if not identical) absent if the video was up to 2013 the omission could be over looked as intentional but that is not the case

I thought it was because Mario had a pacemaker and there was a timer that would cause him to have a heart attack if he doesn’t make it to the goal post in time. Making it to the goal post restarts the clock.

The reason is, they only made one death sprite. The death sprite is small Mario. They tried to make it look like he's flailing his arms. But if you look closely, he's frowning under his mustache.

Theory: Mario dies at time out because he's secretly an alien and has a secret tank that has special oxygen that he can breathe. He only can die during the actual levels because that's when he's jumping around and over exerting himself.. when he's just chilling with the homies he can last all day on a single tank... Which he keeps hidden .. In his hat... Which also explains why he eventually dies without his hat in some games.

This is because the NES could only render 8 8x8 sprites per scanline, and each sprite in this game is actually 4 put together, so anything above that is programmed to make the sprites flicker so that they are all sorta kinda visible
