that's funny - i've never realized that the time limit might be a problem in the newer versions of the super mario games. nevertheless: in super mario bros 1 (NES) you usually can complete all levels within the time limit. but there was 1 level (i think in world 8?) which kills you if you don't run the level. (at the nearly end of the level there was 1 big and a small hole leading to kill yourself)

question for lost levels: I know there are 2 backwards warp pipes, one has a pit to jump and suicide down and the other doesn't. for the latter if I were to say grab a beer and let the timer run out would it act as a normal death or something worse? I know games like these have different consequences for the timer than just a regular death.

It's called Super Mario Maker. It's a game where you can make your own Mario levels. You can also choose the style of the level from SMB, SMB3, SMW, NSMBU, and SM3DW
