When it came to _Mario Party DS_ as a child, I immediately turned off the DS. In my mind, all of my brain cells evacuated and ran for the hills and never played it; that was the time I went from San Jose, CA, to Santa Ana, CA, for possibly the first time. To this day, it haunts me as if it's the most scariest thing I ever experienced and heard in my entire life.
Interestingly enough, I think the reason why it doesn't count as -1 star in Jamboree is because it's actually just a cardboard cut-out version of a Ztar.
If you guys are wondering about the one on the thumbnail that isn't in the video, it's an unused model of a Ztar from Mario Party 8. It's possible that Bowsee would've given you one on the boards where he steals a star, plus there was even an usused fanfare which sounds like the You Got A Star fanfare, but sounding more discouraging if anything, most likely meant to play when you would've gotten a Ztar.
It would've been great, if there was a boss fight against a real Ztar (that isn't a cardboard cutout), which is basically a (sort of) remaster of Stardust Showdown
Dude! Same! The worst part is. I had no idea this thing existed as a kid. So when it happened in Mario party DS. I was like. What the frick is that thing?!
I’ll always remember the first time seeing a Ztar in Mario Party DS. I was playing story mode and I was so pissed off when a computer got a star, landed on Coin Space (one of those item hex’s.) Then gets a hidden block all in one turn. It caught me completely off guard and my heart rate shot up when I saw it was a Ztar in the block. It’s still the only time I’ve ever seen a Ztar in Mario Party DS. I think it’s also one of the real reasons I get a very unsettling feeling whenever I go back to play Mario Party DS to this day.
It seemed like the ztar was originally intended to be just a fake star from Bowser. The later games started shifting more to it being a dark or evil star, but at least Mario Party Jamboree got the idea.
The music from getting it in mp2 is scary as hell for how distorted and evil it sounds. I just got mp2 on the switch and landed on the bowser bank on bowser land without coins. I was shocked to learn the took my star as payment if I don’t have coins
Mario Party DS was my first game and I had experienced getting a Ztar before. Didn't know it existed in other games prior to that as well, though, other than Mario Party 9 and 10, even though they're Mini Ztars.
@@christianwright7581 in mario party 1&2 they also didn't subtract a star, from which that board came from so it's more faithful to the original (but it's only 20 instead of 40 coins now) as it's just to waste your coins.
I've played the crap out of so many of these games, but this video made me realize that there are so many side modes in Mario Party that I've never tried. Got me seeing footage in games that I've played for over 20 years that I've never seen before.
0:15 Gohan(Geo): hey what's this, huh wait it's... 1:55 rowdy: duh hey everybody, welcome to da funky funny room Ace: yeah, we've got all the best games Spike: ignore that ztar
When someone in Jamboree gets a Ztar, I like trolling them with the "Congrats!" sticker, lol. Obviously, though, it is simply a joke. No need to take Mario Party seriously, after all.
The Ztar just feels like a normal counter artifact to the (Power) Stars that I like when it's brought up in the spin-offs (as much as I would want it in the mainline). Like how Super Mario 64 influenced the Coin/Star dynamic, I think the Ztar inspired the Dark Star in Mario & Luigi. I think many Mario fanfics that represent "negative celestial energy" were based on the Ztar. Interestingly the first "negative Star" actually appeared in Super Mario RPG with a big dark star and having angry eyes. In terms of pronunciation I usually call it "zi-tar" like the instrument sitar so nice to hear it's very similar. I figured it has to be close to the sound of what a corrupted Star sounds like. Funny in Jamboree it's only a cardboard, as some speculate it isn't a strong Ztar.
I used to be scared of Ztars when I first saw them on a Mario party 9 playthrough vid back then. As of now, I’m thinking: I was scared of a purple star?
I cannot stand these things because it hurts a lot since they steal stars from you. In my experience, I felt Mario Party 5 was the one that really did Ztars with the damage. I remember Card Party when you think you get a Star, but end up with the Ztar instead.
I had an ally and simply crossed bowser and he stole two stars I quit the online game after spamming stickers. Thing I don’t like about online is just the rules cannot be changed. I don’t always want to play 15 turns I want 10 sometimes. Also bonus stars are handicaps just because someone hit a space doesn’t mean they should win for not landing anything and not spending their coins. But Ik that’s how they work
