In December 2020, B Lab announced a review of the performance requirements - or standards - for B Corp Certification. The aim was to understand whether more specific and mandatory performance requirements on key topics could ensure that B Corp Certification continues to differentiate leading companies using business as a force for good.
As part of this work, the B Corp standards are moving away from a flexible approach linked to achieving an 80 point score in the BIA across a range of criteria, to one where all B Corps must meet requirements on 10 topics that define leadership on social, governance, and environmental business impact. The new standards are a natural evolution of what it means to be a B Corp, making certification more relevant than ever before for the challenges we face today and tomorrow.
From 26 September - 15 November, 2022, the first draft of the new B Corp standards is open for review to B Corps and the wider public during a consultation period. Input received from the survey will be considered for inclusion in the next version of the standards. This informational webinar was recorded to provide more clarity and context around these developments to all interested stakeholders and to provide a forum for questions and comments from attendees.
💬 The first draft of the new B Corp standards is open to review till 15 November, 2022. Click here to access a one-pager document linking to the draft and accompanying survey: bcorp.imagerelay.com/share/2514940607864577a872a76f56820a59

Fish often live in complex social groups, they use tools and exhibit signs of anxiety and pain. However, fish are treated like commodities by the industrial fishing industry. Industrial fishing also has significant environmental impacts. Commercial fishing is cruelty to animals on a colossal scale, killing nearly a trillion animals worldwide every year. Ships the size of football fields use techniques such as longlining and gill nets! I urge you to strengthen accrediting standards for industrial-scale fishing operations. Thank you.
