Ewald: Brass Quintet No. 1 - Inouye, Luftman, Garza, Higgins, Anderson 

I had this on a Music Minus One record 50+ years ago when I was a senior in high school. My dad, who was a band director at another school, let me use an Eb alto horn to play along with the French Horn part. The 2nd movement was always my favorite; I always heard it as someone waking up to a beautiful spring morning and then suddenly realizing they had overslept and had to rush to get to work, then settling down at their desk for the day. The music we learn in our youth gets written deep in our brain and we never forget it. I was pleased, and not surprised, that there is this lovely recording on RU-vid that I found on the first try by just entering "Victor Ewald." I can still sing along with every note. I'm not sure what I was doing just now that brought this memory back. Thanks for the trip down the rabbit hole.. 💗

I was first playing this in faculty quintet at my local university back in 1978 or so, but it still rings through as solid composition with an excellent performance here. You guys are so clean you practically sound British! :)

I found this video after looking up the two principal trumpet players on the Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm soundtrack :)

I love this piece. Apparently I played another version. My horn part was more involved--it covered more of the melody.

Gorgeous rendition! It may be more comfortable for the trombone part to be played on a euphonium, but it's not a trombone and the sound is different. I prefer the trombone for for this piece.
