"They were all good, I liked them all and not just revenge of the Sith but the phantom menace and attack of the clones too" ~Jeremy Skywalker (Kudos to whoever made the meme in the first place)
For once in his life, Clarkson is completely right when he says all the prequels are good. I don't necessarily agree with that but the prequel bashing is so annoying it's nice to hear a contrary point of view.
Michael McGrath sorry but that's your opinion. The 3 movies have 6.5, 6.6 and 7.6 after at least 12 years and that would be a lot higher if there weren't so many idiots voting 1s and 2s. Doesnt prove they're good but proves you're in the minority.
The prequels were better than the originals sorry. God awful light saber duels in the originals, and fuckin ewoks. They make jar jar look like a good character.
Rotten to the Core! No, no it won’t. The Sequel Trilogy hate will not go on forever. You’re a moron if you don’t see how history is repeating itself. The ST is FAR greater than the PT.
It's a lot harder to appreciate something when you're in the middle of it than when you can sit back and simply enjoy it. Ewan McGregor put years of hard work into the prequel trilogy, and I'm sure that process wasn't nearly as magical as it was for us to watch the finished product. So you have to take his comments with a grain of salt. Even Harrison Ford has a streak of bitterness when talking about the original films.
No, I thought the films were quite good, but Ford still talks shit about them. But like I said, that's just because he's probably too close to it. Fans like us can just sit back and enjoy. :)
@@Durwood71 Ford didn't love press conferences, interviews, the movies made people say "Harrison Ford is Han Solo!", he wasn't happy with the whole situation. I think that's why the "Ford dislikes OT" thing
I really like him saying that "I like the third one, the third one was good." Usually actors will suck the dicks of all films they've been in. One of many reasons I'd love to see him in future Star Wars stand alone films. He pulled off a fantastic performance as Old Ben, and he seems to want to be apart of a great Star Wars film.
Jeremy defended the Prequels when nobody else did. I know Ewan has come around like we all have, but Jeremy went against the narrative because he just liked the movies. They may not be Trainspotting, a cinematic masterpiece, or even as good as other Sci Fi Movies, but for us kids from the 2000's, this was what we grew up on. Love ya Clarkson!
This part is edited because Ewan mocks a fan who tells him the correct name of the planet, turns around and says "there's always someone like that" @ 0:19
I'm a big fan of McGregor and thought he did the best he could in the prequels. You could call his performance wooden at times, but taking in to account everything he had to work with (The dialogue, the direction, and the blue/green screen environments) it was virtually impossible for him to produce a performance in anything other than the fashion that he did. It's pretty clear that he didn't like his dialogue and found the filmmaking, for the most part, very tough and tedious.
Starky R You do realise his character is meant to be wooden? He’s a monk that has been raised from birth in a temple and raised by older men that underwent the exact same thing and taught him not to emotionally connect. While he is unique in Jedi, being taught by the only Jedi that actually said fuck the rules (Qui Gon), he still had that environment from birth and continued to live under it after his Master’s death. Same goes for Anakin, a teenage boy who was a previous slave was then taught to be an almost emotionless robot after his freedom. He has never had a normal life, yet people expect him to behave as if he were a normal person they could relate to?
They've changed over the past decade and a half since. He now speaks highly of them and loves doing conventions, especially with Hayden. And As I am writing this, Jake Lloyd is recovering and working on his mental health and is in the best headspace in years. This interaction in my opinion was the Beginning of the Butterfly effect
I agree PriceisRight! Usually you get the standardised answer from Ewan - "Well, they were technically very difficult but I liked playing in them." In this he's being honest and I agree with him 100% here.
I think what we're basically saying here, is all the UK-ish actors were great, lol. As an American, I can't say as I disagree. Been a fan of Liam's for years, and Ewan truly captured the look and spirit of Sir Alec's iconic Obi-Wan. I could actually see him growing into the older version with very little imagination needed.
@SaberSense Well, people seem to like him enough to ignore his accent trouble. And Moulin Rouge was pretty good, I thought. Very, extremely cheesy, but good. And he could have had a memory blank...I do that all the time. I even forgot a girl's name wo I was good friends with once. I'm just forgetful. He might have also been doing it for the laughs. He probably knew and just did it for the audience appreciation.
The third can only be called 'good' in relation to the other two; just because it tastes better than shit doesn't mean it's not piss. However, the McGregor was in Trainspotting, I can let his part in the prequels slide.
Actually, it was great. Yes, Anakin had crappy voice acting, yes, Padme was an idiot like usual, but it had a good story, amazing special effects, brilliant choreography, superb battles, samuel l jackson, clone troopers, general grievous, darth vader, a lava planet, a duel between obi-wan and anakin, and a jedi massacre. All elements of a great star wars movie. Here is best to worse: 5,4,3,6,1, and 2. I enjoy them all, however.
he surely has his reasons to say those things about star wars, but he mentioned he had a lot of fan too ;)...and after all, all he has to do is gain money doing films, even if he doesn't like them
@thecrosby627 in case you haven't noticed, i posted this 3 years ago... since then I decided I don't like Hayden Christensen's acting abilities... however, Ewan is still my Rock Star! :)
dont you think the word "crap" is a lil too harsh of a word...? just because the diologue sucked in the new trilogy doesnt mean its "crap" the visual effects were freakin awsum better than the original and i thought the story line was interesting.
@Gina97xls Ewan's character didn't even have an arc over those three movies, which is probably one of their their biggest failings. He did the best he could with awful material. If Ewan couldn't do anything with it, no one could.
Besides, in 6, the empire were beaten by living teddy bears! And Luke learns he has been smooching his SISTER in the past 2 movies! Really? All that's wrong with 3 is the stupid, meaningless and wooden dialogue between Anakin and Padme.
@User323232 Nope. Not even close. I understand your need to convince yourself that the prequels weren't a complete waste, but sadly that is not the case.
That's funny, funny guy. I do think he at large made the films watchable despite the bad dialogue. I am sure Hayden and Natalie could have done better with a better script as some of the stuff they said was out right dumb no matter what your opinion is. He was right on about the 3rd being the best of the prequels to bad the silly host had to defend Lucas haha.
TBH, Ewan throwing a bit of shade here and his moaning over the years about green screens etc. comes across as a bit egotistical. It was a JOB not a ride at Disneyland.
Besides the obvious problems, such as the terrible script, story and the overuse of CGI, the main problem with the prequels is that George Lucas completely misunderstood what everyone liked about Star Wars in the first place and made 3 shitty kids movies with a completely different vibe to the original trilogy. The third one was the best of them, yeah, but still not a patch on the originals. Overall, they suck, and Ewan knows it.
George didn't misunderstand. He simply didn't want to rehash the OT and deliberately tried to do something different. The 'overuse' of CGI was him experimenting and attempting to innovate cinematic technology, which is exactly what he was doing back with the OT. Also, he always considered Star Wars as something aimed at kids. 🤷♂️
Is this actor complaining about having to act? Especially a stage actor? What's the difference between a stage and a green screen set? Neither one are actually "real"
