After purchasing the newly released Eastwest Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition, I wanted to test it on a film score recreation, and I thought Danny Elfman's Batman Theme would be a good first test. So presented here is my MIDI recreation of it. Since I upgraded from the EWHO gold edition, there were a lot of new things (such as divisi patches and mic positions) and things I learned not to do next time. This ended up being a great learning experience!
Instruments Used:
-EastWest Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition: Diamond (www.soundsonline.com/hollywood...)
-stock Logic Steinway Piano
-stock Logic Organ
-stock Logic Choir
Software:
-Logic Pro X
-mixed using built-in Logic EQ
-mastered using iZotope Ozone 9 plugins

Some things I learned: -I should've utilized Opus's keyswitch ability...with over 150 tracks, the computer was really chugging (it took about 30 seconds to save each time). -I split up the project into two files to save resources and save time. -Next time I might try to record everything with the "main" mic position, then bounce all of the other mic positions separately. This will allow me to mix all of the mics to my heart's content while also saving a ton of resources. -It might not be the best idea to load up the "MAX" version of every patch...that nearly killed my RAM. -It turns out referring back to the "reference" track often and listening for small details can reveal a lot about the intricacies of a musical performance and how to incorporate them into the mockup: how they attack the note, how they either swell or back off into the next note, the space in between notes, how certain instruments sing out over the orchestra while others blend into the texture, etc. There's a ton I learned doing this, and I can certainly say EastWest has done a fabulous, quality job with this! I'll probably do another one soon, taking into account the things I learned on this go-around (I'm thinking the "Miracle of the Ark" from Raiders could be a lot of fun). If you guys have any pointers, tips, or constructive criticism, feel free to let me know!

I really love to hear the different instruments separately, it really shows how everything blend together, wich instruments are used as textural, wich instruments are leading... I really like those kind of breakdowns, and I wish original seperate tracks where easier to find

This is really excellent, and being able to break down these pieces thematically like this is something I would encourage you to follow up on. You really seem to know exactly how to isolate and recreate the scores, and doing this is like being able to experience the different layers of these songs we love to much. Keep it up and I know I won't be the only one grateful and engaged! My only suggestion is to possibly tie it to the sheet music you made, color coding notes to visually show what's being played, tempo, time signature, and dynamics etc. I feel like it would likely be more interesting than just going for these visuals in and of themselves.

TRULY impressive. I also mainly use EW. I am working on a project just like this, doing a mockup of David Holsinger's "To Tame the Perilous Skies," and I hope I can approach this level of realism. I don't suppose you would consider a one-on-one tutoring session? I see you have a Patreon and would love to see some previews of the content there. This is *exactly* the type of music info I've been looking for.

Fantastic job! This was one of the first scores that got me excited about making music. You nailed all the parts. I think you could maybe improve it a bit with a cohesive approach to reverb. In the ensemble, a lot of the instruments sounded kind of dry. In your separated mixes you can tell there's reverb on the instruments, but it sounds like the amount per instrument varies quite a bit. The piano reverb, for example, sounds super thick while some of the brass verb sounds thin. I'm guessing you might have the default reverb for each sample in Opus turned on. I'd suggest turning that off for each track and then applying an overall reverb to a main mix. You might also want to bus mix each instrument section and do a lighter per-section verb with a thicker concert hall verb for the main mix. This piece should sound like it's slowly rising up above the fog before it smacks you in the face. Also, you'll gain a lot of processing power by disabling each track reverb. Another thing I wanted to mention since you use Opus and have a lot of tracks is the Purge feature. If you're not using yet, you'll want to. Near the top of the Opus window is a button that says purge. After you lay down a track, pressing this button will unload all of the samples for the notes that are not needed. This frees up a lot of ram.
