Ex-Army Sniper Nicholas Irving discussed his experiences and the psychological aspect of his former profession. Irving often had to give warning shots per his protocol, which consisted of first shining a laser at the target, then shooting close enough that they could hear the bullet, and finally taking the deadly shot if the target continued their actions. However, only two targets out of all those he dealt with backed off after the initial warning, having understood the implications. Irving noted his advantage due to superior technology, such as night vision and infrared, that often left the enemy unaware of his presence. When asked to respond to being labeled a "murderer" or "psychopath," Irving acknowledged the accusations but distinguished his role by acting under orders with a certain compassion and morality. Despite this, he admits that the choice to become a sniper is not a decision taken lightly or by many.

I just found out about this guy a week ago and I’ve watched both of his vlad interviews and the one he did on Shawn Ryan’s show. I gotta say man, this dude is a true fucking hero and is an idol to me now. Even after everything’s he’s seen, he’s calm, articulate, he internalizes and thinks things through, doesn’t let his ego sway his thought process, and genuinely seems like the coolest buddy to have. Dude is a great soldier and veteran. I hope the VA helps this guy if he ever starts questioning what he had to do, or starts having problems dealing with answering the same questions over and over. Couple years ago the VA came up with a brilliant strategy to weed out vets that were depressed or homicidal...they would literally start each doctor appointment with the same question.....do you have thoughts of hurting yourself or others? Now ask me once no biggie, but ask me the same question Everytime for every appointment and I might start to think I am. Like why keep asking me this? Do I come off that way? Eventually I spoke up and explained this is sewing a seed that makes me feel like I'm suicidal and I'm starting to believe it. Couple months later they stopped doing it throughout the VA healthcare and it's processes. I just being that up because I hope this soldier gets help IF he ever has the need.

I was there in late 2004 and all of 2005 ( with an infantry unit ) it was like the-WILD-WEST !!! We determined when to shoot or not to shoot,it was left up to our decisions.

I was bored with working 2 full-time civilians job,felt I needed a REAL challenge filled with-DANGER,so off to Iraq I went. LOL. I was gone from my civilian jobs for 2 yrs and 8 months doing those 2 deployments back-to-back,my co-workers thought I had up and quit. LOL. Then the last 2 tours,I did one yr at civilian jobs,then one yr in Iraq,then rinse and repeat.I went to fight in Iraq for the action and danger,my soldiers called me-MAD-DOG-behind my back-LOL. But,at the end of each tour they told-Ssgt Morgan,we're so glad you were with us !! You're one crazy SOB,but,thanks.That meant more to me than any award or medal.

In 08 from what I remember you had to have PID and they basically had to have their weapon directed on you before you were allowed to engage. It's like letting the guy you're fighting take the first punch for free. That's mainly because we didn't get the SOFA passed. Forced us to do all our raids with Iraqi Army or Police in tow. So they'd just tip off who we were hitting. Not a productive way to conduct combat operations lol.

Its pretty much math. Basically they just calculate how the bullet they are shooting will get to their target. Wind mph, speed of bullet, size of bullet, natural forces like gravity etc, Im just a cool dude on youtube lol i'm no professional about snipers nor have i been in the military i just like to learn fr! They take written exams in sniper school that have alot of math problems directly related to real life! Lastly im pretty sure snipers roll in twos sometimes and the guy not shooting the sniper helps with the calculations and the sniper just listens and adjust! Anyone can correct me if im wrong or missing anything!

i know his wife feels so protected 😂 he has pitbull energy. you can tell he’s one of the quiet ones, and they’re always the most deadly but i don’t think he’s a serial killer… i think he’s a prime example of what’s wrong with our military… They train people to think war, killing, or etc is “for the good” and don’t consider what it does to the brain

Maybe the people who didn't back off after Irving fired a warning shot didn't realize that it was a warning shot. Maybe those people thought it was a stray bullet, or a shot fired by someone without the accuracy of a trained sniper. People often have to "keep doing what they're doing" under fire in combat.

Its sad how people are calling a man who FOUGHT and served for our country a "serial killer, psychopath, etc". Sure he's technically a killer, But the real psychopaths are the people who he was working for. aka the U.S government. He was just doing what he was told to do, so that he can make it back home to his loved ones.
