I think Nia says the show wasn’t fake is because the emotional abuse and damage she gained was very real.

Watching this, I understand why Payton cried so much on the show. Imagine being so young and getting death threats for something producers told you to say.

jojo said that the competitions were real but made by the producers.

In one of her recent videos, JoJo said that they edit scenes to make it look more dramatic. When Kira threw a water bottle at Jessalyn she was actually throwing at one of the producers, but the show edited it.

Competitions werent fake, they also werent real. The producers called the companies running the comps like fierce or sheer and asked if they could do the dances twice and the judges react to the ones we see. So both Nia and Kalani are correct but they didnt go into depth about it.

I’ve actually competed with them and the competitions are not fake they just tell you to be respectful and stay quiet and stuff, and it’s just like every other competition just with more cameras for the show

I can’t believe this is ironically real. Throughout the whole people of dancemoms I thought Payton was the mean girl. I feel so bad for her.

Mackenzie got depression due to that show and extreme anxiety and Maddie was always put in situations where she was stressed and had panic attacks when she did bad.

I think what Nia meant by the competitions weren’t fake was this: The competition ARE real but the producers set them up. Second, there were real competitions with real judges, BUT the producers could change the scores any time they wanted (As Kalani’s mom has said) And third, some of the competitions they went to were real, no producers behind it. SOME were fake not ALL.

It's funny that Maddie and Mackenzie specifically talk shit about Dance Moms all the time, but without it they probably would only have a fraction of what they have now, if anything. There are millions of 'working' kids in the industry, and so, so, so few of them have the status that the Ziegler's and the rest of the dance moms girls have. Without Dance Moms, Sia would never have found Maddie, without Dance Moms, Nia would probably not be on Days of Our Lives, without Dance Moms, Kalani, Brynn and Chloe wouldn't have the social media following they currently have, and without Dance Moms, 45 Million Jojo bows would not be on every kid under the age of 12's head. I think it's important to be honest with themselves, but at the same time, be gracious and not to bite the hand that feeds you. By talking shit about your roots, it does just that. I love the way Jojo talks about the show and how truly kind she is to Abby on social media, and probably offline as well. While she might not have loved Dance Moms, she did love what it did for her career, her social media following, her bank account and her contact list...

I’ve meet the girls... the seasons were real until season 4!

Most of the girls have come out and said the show wasnt scripted but manipulated. While competitions werent fake per say they wete hosted by Lifetime in later seassons and most were invitation only events meaning that of course ALDC was going to win. Although it wasnt a fake competition, they set up actual competitions, the deck was stacked in favor of ALDC dancers. Being household names had to also impact scoring in some way. In the end, ALL of tue girls have issues from being apart of the show. It was plain child abuse what they did to those girls... Lifetime, Abby,and the mothers should all be ashamed of the emotional and mental neglect and absuse all those kids have been put through for money

I can see exactly why kenzie said she hated the show Imagine going on a show and getting compared to your sister everyday, being told your never good enough for years and having to think back to those times. The impact this show has probably had on the girls health is so bad.

I think we all knew how fake it was. This just proves what we already suspected *EDIT* my friend just texted me a screenshot of this comment lol. The internet is so fun.

I know the show was hard and traumatic, but the Zieglers say all the time that they wish they hadn't done the show. However, I don't know if they realize they wouldn't be where they are today or have all these opportunities to release music, post on social media, dance for Sia, be in movies, etc. without the show.

Competitions are coordinated by produces of the show. They would go to the studios close to the competition location and asked them for JUNIOR DANCES specifically to compete against the dance moms juniors elite competition team. The episode with the dance that has the giant headdresses and the drums was the one I went to. There were no other age divisions at the specific competition that I went to only junior numbers or dances for the girls solo categories. The stage was half full, they wanted everyone sitting super tight at the front of the stage to look like there were a lot of studios there. When awards came, the speaker announced the top 5 junior small group dances. My studio got places 2-5 with high golds and ALDC won 1st with a platinum. Yes, the girls could have just been better but the strange thing was, the group dance and solos from the ALDC were the only dances in the ENTIRE COMPETITION to receive a platinum. That never happens at a legitimate dance competition. Also, when the moms and the non-bias judges/competition workers walked by us, they were all extremely friendly and said to each other “we’ll see you next week!”. In the earlier seasons they went to actual dance competitions like West Coast, but dance moms got banned from most comps. Because the owners/directors of those comps. Didn’t want the spectacle of dance moms drama happening. My friends mother even talked to jill about all of the drama and Jill said not to believe everything you see on tv. Dance moms is not the most accurate portrayal of how competitions work. The produces of dance moms originally went to a dance studio (Norettas School of Dance) and asked them to be the studio for dance moms but because Notettas is a self-respecting dance company they declined. Also, for all of you no dancers...Nationals are a big deal but the nationals that ALDC attends each year is not the only nationals happening nationwide. There are hundreds of dance competitions that exist and almost each one hosts a nationals every year. So the big hype about nationals is so false. It can be important and is an amazing feeling to win nationals but it’s not like there aren’t 100 more happening across the country. That’s all folks.

Now people realize to not attack at people so quickly without knowing the truth. Everybody thinks that what is shown in the video is the real reality but it isn’t. Everything is edited and sometimes it makes the person who is talking look bad. Every time Peyton said something people would react so quickly but I always noticed that before anything was shown people would write in their intro that “everything is edited and this is not the REAL TRUTH”.

I would love for all the moms, girls, and Abby to write a Dance Moms tell all book that would reveal the truth. Honestly, I can’t imagine what it must’ve been like. I did theatre and band/choir all throughout middle school and high school and Dance Moms came out the summer after I graduated from high school, I remember watching season 1 and thinking "We would've loved to have our own show and perform every weekend" but after seeing and hearing all this stuff, I think "or would we really?" those poor girls sacrficed so much! I don't know how many of us would've wanted to sacrfice normal teenager stuff like prom, going out with friends, going to places like the mall, the movies, and the beach, and prepping for college to film and do master classes, appearances, meet and greets, and photoshoots for a so called 'reality show' . The teen years are already tough anyway. I just hope more of the truth is revealed eventually

They had to set up fake phone numbers for the competitions because the competition companies didn’t want random watchers of the show to ring them all the time, or because of some kind of rule stating there shouldn’t be real company adresses on TV because it will be counted as advertisement

Also, the competitions weren’t exactly fake but they could make competitions to get around the law against kids working hours and sometimes they would use it to create drama but overall they were real
