Even if you were asked to imagine the very strangest high-performance vehicles you could possibly imagine, you probably wouldn't be able to dream up the two hilariously entertaining machines I found myself piloting at Blyton Park Circuit with some of my friends recently.
First up, I was invited to get behind the wheel of a miniature Tuk Tuk three-wheeled pick-up... with a very big difference. You see, this one had a Suzuki Hayabusa superbike engine tucked underneath its dinky loading bay - creating a sensation not too dissimilar from strapping a rocket to a packet of crisps.
Next, some friends lent me the keys to their Ariel Atom, which, as you've probably guessed by now, was just as far from standard as the Tuk Tuk. Head to the back of this featherweight sports car and you'll see an enormous turbocharger hanging from the car's rear end, meaning that around 1000bhp is now on tap - what could possibly go wrong?!
This unforgettable day was made all the more memorable thanks to the appearance of some of my close friends, not least ‪@AdamC3046‬, ‪@MarkMcCann64‬ and ‪@mgcharoudin‬. Enjoy the madness...

1000hp in an Atom is just insane!! Who looks at an Atom and thinks "Needs more power"? It looks so unassuming as well. Definitely love to see that thing on a track it can stretch it's legs on. The Stig getting told off for doing donuts is hilarious.

That was by far and away the most entertaining video to date. I love cameos from other youtubers in videos. I reckon a youtuber budget endurance race should be in order like the enduro KA series or something? Imagine reprimanding the stig though....clearly didn't understand whose presence he was in ha😂

For example can ams had races in sunny desert having over 30 degrees heat and track surface being quite hot. It's totally different to drive on a cold tarmac in damp British isles. Way to go Stig!

This thing needs an LSD more than any vehicle ever created. A diff would just transform the cornering. Easy fix for an MX5 rear end. Crazy machine !!!!

that poor ariel atom. amazing build but its quite obvious it is not suited for such a track. I reckon the stock amount of power would have been faster on that day.

The Tuk Tuk can be amazing fun. I work in Asia, where we have come out of work late in the evening after a long day and had our Tuk Tuk drives race each other to the restaurant with us in the back and with a fraction of the power you have here. You can imagine the fun where we are working like sidecar passengers transferring weight. You can imagine we are killing ourselves laughing before we get to the first cold beer. It's not even fast but it is super unstable especially as traffic is coming at you from all angles. It's not about reading the track of the road but what's moving around you, making a gap and changing direction on three wheels in an instant. It's a;sp about seckond guessing what you Tuk Tuk driver is about to do and what gap he is going for. PS, this message comes with a health warning! Watching you guys trying to peel yourselves out of the Tuk Tuk at the end of the drive was seriously funny.

God, Britain can be such a miserable place. Imagine telling off a driver of Ben Collins' calibre for doing a few donuts at a race track. I understand the reasons why they're not allowed to do it, but to me it's symptomatic of the whinging dullards that can make the UK so tiresome. In Italy, they would be thanking you for doing that.

That might have been the owner and builder of the Atom saying that. And it's understandable; with the several inches of tyre slip, that thing generates, it wouldn't surprise me if it could bend the axle. I wouldn't want to see someone unnecessarily abusing my baby either.

with hayabusa engine you dont need to use clutch on upshift just prime the gear then lift off the throttle and straight back on without clutch and the gears will do its thing. it is a sequential gearbox without a auto cutout that makes it change while still on power, the tuck tuck does not have this device fitted to the bikes engine, most bikers add this device called a quick shifter which allows continuous on power gear shifts without having to lift off the throttle, you also can get auto blippers so you also dont have to use clutch on downshift but manually you can tap the throttle to do this without clutch.

Would be fun to have the tuktuk sorted better for turning and with a limited slip so it could try and really make laps. And the Atom could do with a little smaller turbo. Would make less peak power, but would also be drive-able instead of just lag, wheel spin, and limiter.

lol if you keep it one gear up, you can manage the boost and power a bit better and it wont surge so much. i dont think he ever left third... seeing that trike go fast was like bannas on a pbj sandwich... thats not right, but its good lol!

[Roll eyes] I want to start with the idea of a cross-kart. But scale it up a little. 600 cc is not quite enough. Use a Hyabusa engine, or a Blackbird, or (best choice) a ZX14. Think Arial Atom, but without the distinctive curved exposed tubes. Now drape a Mini Moke body over it. The wooden box here, over the engine, I imagine my Moke with a big blue Esky (white lid) in the 'back seat.' The original was a Morris Mini Minor with a different (very simple) body over the top. I want to retire the Morris / Leyland parts completely, but keep that little boxy body, and drop it over a cross-kart on steroids. Like a good cross-kart, it should have upper and lower control arms on all 4 corners.
