I think in one question, the placing of customer should also be specified like, left or right. Else it can be left join or right join both are correct since we don't know the placement.
@DSCOVRAnalytics
@DSCOVRAnalytics Год назад
That's a really great point, and yes both are correct because the placement of the tables isn't specified. These types of questions will typically have a similar format on the actual exam, where it may not mention the explicit placement of the tables!!! It was a little confusing for me also.

Thanks for all your efforts in preparing these videos. These are super useful for brushing up Tableau concepts and really help in preparing for the Tableau Certified Data Analyst Exam. 👍💯 I just had one doubt regarding the last set of topics (time stamp 8:04 - Focus on the following for Domain 1) that you had mentioned regarding Tableau Desktop i.e. starting from "Functions (ISNULL, IFNULL, ZN, LOOKUP)" and ending with "Know the definition of a primary and secondary key". Can you please provide the correct reference link for these topics because you have mentioned the same Tableau Prep reference link for these topics too?

This is an excellent exam guide and you've helped me understand lots of things! Just a quick question on replacing nulls with 0's. I believe the calculations IFNull([Sales],0) and ZN([Sales]) would also change the nulls into 0's (and I think at a row level? so it would aggregate as SUM when the calculation is placed into view. Please correct me if I'm wrong though). Can you help me understand why the ZN(LOOKUP(SUM([Sales],0)) is the choice in this scenario?
@DSCOVRAnalytics
@DSCOVRAnalytics 2 года назад
Hi Andrew, that's an excellent question! There is one thing you need to keep in mind, empty or null values are not the same as missing data! Let's say you're looking at Sub-Category Sales for Copiers broken out by month of order date, and you see sales values for Jan, Feb and March, but no value for April. If you take a closer look at the underlying data, you may see that this data is missing because there weren't any orders placed for that particular Sub-Category during the month of April. When you combine dimensions and measures to create a view in Tableau, the records/data may not be in the underlying table, but its existence is implied. For cases where the data is implied but does not actually exist (missing data), we have to use ZN LOOKUP. But if the data is simply not keyed in, then we can use ZN or IFNull. I hope that helps!

Hey Jordan, what did you think of the exam?
@jordanhinson3989
@jordanhinson3989 Год назад
@@DSCOVRAnalytics It was a mix of easy and tricky questions. But 100% there was a benefit from using your exam guide. The test covers topics that I have never needed in my particular applications of Tableau. Some of the questions I also felt had responses that had more than one correct answer. But in the lab portion, every activity was easy, and I was surprised they even included a pdf of the help on the desktop of the virtual machine. I'm a very slow worker and even I finished in time.

at 2:19 I don't understand why the order would be 2,1,3. Why would you select New Workbook before you pick the data source? I just tried it and was able to do 2, 3,1. Could your answer be wrong? or have two possible correct answers?
@DSCOVRAnalytics
@DSCOVRAnalytics Год назад
Hi Jordan, there are two correct answers here! Selecting 2, 1 will prompt you to connect to a data source, then you can make your selection using option 3. Your approach will give the same result. Except that you select the data source first and then create a workbook based on selection.

7:01 I think the answer is C. Does anyone else want to help me understand why the answer is marked d? In order to get the order ID you have to use the right side of the table named orders especially since you can have unique customerIDs appear in the orders table. Maybe the question is just unclear because they don't differentiate if a customer is defined by customer name or ID or either.
@DSCOVRAnalytics
@DSCOVRAnalytics Год назад
Hi Jordan, the customers table contains all the customers including those who haven't placed any orders, so they wouldn't show up in the orders table. In the resulting output we want to display all customers, including the ones without an order ID, so we need to use a left join to capture all existing customers in the system. The right join will only display customers who have placed one or more orders and have associated order IDs.

@@DSCOVRAnalytics "the customers table contains all the customers "... I'm sorry but how are you sure this is true? I chose answer "C" because of the possibility that the Orders Table contains CustomerIDs that are not included in the Customers Table and the question asks "which join would you use to select *all* customers". If this is how the actual exam phrases questions I'm already worried about the exam being too tricky or not explicit enough. Am we really going to have to make assumptions about the questions such as this?

Q5 answer should be "Ifnull([sales],0)"
@derekl2882
@derekl2882 6 месяцев назад
Yeah I don't understand what Tableau is trying to prove/test with this kind of question. ZN[Sales] would produce the same 0 result just as would IFNULL([Sales],0). I think the trick is that both the ZN and IFNULL approach would require replacing the Sales in the marks with the newly calculated field (which would then be aggregated)? The ZN(LOOKUP(SUM([Sales],0) is also effective because the offset is 0. I guess the only difference here is that it summing in the formula itself, but to me that does not mean the other solutions are effective provided they are also summed. The LOOKUP based formula would still need to be brought into the marks replacing Sales. To me this is Tableau trying to be tricky rather than test competency, and it kind of pisses me off given we have to pay $250 to take a swing at this certification.
