Hi Kenny, fellow Instructor here 👋. What you said near the end of the video is what I’ve twice so far had to ask learners who question my teaching, advice or feedback as an Instructor, “Why are you paying £70-£80 for a lesson if you know what you’re doing?” It makes no sense whatsoever. 🤦🏾‍♂️ Your learner’s behaviour was so disgraceful, and I totally understand what you meant about the colour issue too. Hopefully others will learn from her mistakes and the good advice you gave in this video. Thanks for sharing this experience as many can learn from this.

Hello Swiftly very pleased to have a fellow Instructor onboard 😀. Exactly!!! I mean no one goes to school and pay for what they already know. In my experience, many examiners are more generous than instructors with their marking and yet you have those who still expect to pass despite very obvious serious faults and blame the examiner as either “Mean or Racist” until I point out that I agree with the examiner’s decision. This is why I invested in the camera setup and it helps to clear these hiccups during lessons and test outcomes 😀

While I can understand how frustrating and daunting it can be for some people to sit the practical test, there was absolutely no necessity for the girl to start hurling abuse at the examiner to the point where he wanted to get out of the car - that is just totally unacceptable. Some people really need to take their mistakes with a pinch of salt instead of lashing out at the person whose job is to make sure that you can drive safely and have that consistency. On a more positive note, I have really been enjoying your videos! Absolutely class they are!!

The learner did not fail as a result of the examiner applying the brakes at that final roundabout. She had already been awarded serious faults earlier on. What will happen now is a report will be made and this escalated. Whichever Test Centre this learner attends, assuming she takes another test, the Supervising Examiner will be sitting in the back seat with or without the instructor as well. A similar situation happened to me years ago. At the end of the test the examiner said "I am sorry Mr. Bloggs, you have failed the test on this occasion" candidate shouted "Bas**rd and punched the steering wheel with both hands. It was not clear if it was addressed at the examiner or a general comment to oneself as a being inadequate. The candidate had to explain to the examiner it was the latter and apologise profusely. Examiner explained about future tests.

I was always taught to indicate if you are crossing traffic on a roundabout. That BMW's road positioning did suggest that it was exiting at the junction the learner was emerging from but then whipped round the roundabout. I was also taught to wait to see if a driver actually makes a turn at a junction or not before making a decision to move off so the learner should definitely have waited on this occasion.

When things like this happen do you decide to not work with the learner? Do things like this hurt your reputation with test centres?

Poor examiner :( My impression is that they are generally quite polite and respectful. Even if you fail and it seems unfair, you need to own up your mistakes and not blame others.

Yes you are correct I feel the same too, most examiners in my experience are very nice and helpful from feedbacks I get from learners after their test, even those that failed. I really did applaud the examiner on how he handled the situation and no one should have to deal with such for doing their job.

mhm no tbf if he had said that wrong word it would make him racist, but he didn't, very professional guy he is. 26:47 Her behaviour is unacceptable and embarrassing

I actually the mean to say the “wrong word” literally sorry. I meant if he had said something that another person could misinterpret or felt is racist which isn’t always right. I’ve seen learner failed and say examiner is racist otherwise they would have ignored the fault because to them (the learner) the fault is negligible (I wish) 😀

What do you suggest should she be waiting on the round about? For safety will that be marked as minor or serious? Like rather failing minor is preferred? What do you say besides other things

Hesitancy will only be marked as a serious fault if it's recurring. Depending on the examiner, you may get a serious for 3 or more instances of hesitancy, or if you're waiting in one spot for longer than is necessary. The blue car was coming around quite quickly, and partially obscured, but the learner could have waited and risked a minor hesitancy fault, rather than take the opportunity and immediately fail. You are allowed up to 15 minor faults. :^)
