This is another lesson from a no nonsense guide to being black and moving to Germany, or anywhere your heart tells you that you need to go. I live in Germany so all of the experience and opinions come from being black in Germany. All topics don't necessarily exist BECAUSE I'm a black man but I speak from a black perspective. This lesson will tackle the oh so frequently asked question...is Germany ra cist? With Germanys history, people can't help but think that the country has remained the same. But truth be told, they have made WAY more strides towards rectifying their mistakes than the US could EVER DREAM of. Don't let the fear of the IDEA of ra cism be the reason you don't make your move my brothers and sisters, because you can live and have peace of mind ANYWHERE you desire. Please enjoy the video.

I honestly love ur content, it's creative, more reflective, more philosophical. It's not talking about experiences and that was. Ur content is more like a intellectual invitation to a discourse. Maybe my english is to bad to describe it perfectly, but what I wanna say is, that ur content is very unique amd u can discuss so much about it. Thank you I value that very much.

Not every negative comment or incident is based on, or because of, race or racism. Example: someone (an ‘IC3 male’) that I know very well just recently moved to another country and tried to rent a particular house. To ensure he got the rental, he told the owner he would give him 6 months rent upfront, plus 3 months deposit (all in advance) in order to secure the rental. However, 2 days later the owner declined the offer and rented it to someone else (an ‘IC1 female’)…!!! The guy was pissed and claimed he didn’t get the rental because the owner was being racist. In fact, he didn’t get the rental because the female offered 12 months rent upfront… so the owner took that deal. Simple. No racism, just capitalism.

I have met an Asian-American in Germany few weeks ago. He introduced himself as a manager of a big German company. When I asked him, if there are many asians from his country working in this company, he said "no, there are just a few, because Germans are racists". I was suprised and asked, how he became a manager if Germans are racists?

Thanks so much for your input on this. An interesting point that was an eye-opener for me was meeting black ex-pats who said they stayed here after leaving the Army in the 50s and 60s for the reason of escaping racism. I guess I was naive to the differences between Europe and the US. As far as the anti-American vibe, I have heard my share of Ami criticisms, but more among the elders. Though I recall a few WWII generation Germans in the early 90s, in Heidelberg who shook my hand and told me stories about when the Americaans saved them.

of course, as everywhere in the world, there is racism here. but I think most European countries have integrated their crimes from the past, e.g. from the time of colonialism or fascism, much better into education than the USA. I am often amazed at how few US citizens know about the racism and crimes in Vietnam. or with the Indians or about slavery .or in the Philippines or Hawaii . no one is free from racist prejudices, of course not even the black ones. I was once told by a demonstrator with African roots who demonstrated against racism, that was innate to white racism, he did not even realize how much he became a racist with such statements.

So I can say for me, as a white, German, 55-year-old male, that I don't hate you! I do not always agree with your opinion, but would be boring if we all had the same opinion! 😜 My problem is rather that I do not like many things about America and Americans! No matter what skin color! BTW: I had a chili schnitzel here in my neighborhood, I think you would like it! You like it very spicy! THAT was the hottest thing I've ever eaten! And it didn't just burn when I ate it....

sure we still have idiots with their minds stuck in the 40s ... but most ppl here either dont care, or are just curuious about "those who look different"! we germans are more "against certain countrys behaviors" but rarely against a certain culture or skin color, atleast in the big citys(like hamburg)! id say it depends on how exposed we are... personally i only knew 1 black guy in my entire school time! its just rarer & all we know about "black culture" is mainly whatever gets over the pond from america to us!...not great, but thats what we get!

couple of years back, I lived in a rural, quite conservative area... had a neighbour, born '47, first name adolf, so you can imagine what his parents were like... (there were quite a few "famous" surnames around in that area as well) that guy was more openminded than even I expected (just based on his age and location)... not a trace of homegrown hatred in him, just the normal german "don't bother me and I won't bother you"

In Vienna, Austria, we are a melting pot of so many cultures, and sometimes you can’t see the wood for the trees. As Austrian you sometimes feel being part of a minority and the only way to live with it is to accept the situation and make the most of it. And it is not a hard thing, more of a heart thing. Cheers!

Short technical feedback: The focus and zoom on your face really highlights your important points! But if your whole head remained visible (slightly higher camera cut) that'd put you even more front and center for those important points you're highlighting. (e.g. 1:31)

It's quite annoying when listening that you're trying to mute or mangle the "racism" word, and it doesn't help with RU-vid anyways. Their CC generation system still understands you well enough, and you're putting it in the title. Just say it as it should be said, you can't fool the algorithms. (not to mention that the word will be written in the comments a hundred times anyways..)
@ChristopherLRussell

True, racism is universal, it just depends on the severity of it. I'd rather deal with the low/almost non-existent racism in Germany than the blatant "in your face" racism one can find here in the U.S.
