For some of your revision classes, could you do like A* topics (topics which often ask for the most marks in papers and are the most difficult), as I would find that really useful.

To keep things fresh, try and add an extra 20-30 minutes at the end of any piece of homework - use this time to recap another topic that you’ve done. Keep it simple and just use the textbook, and do a different chapter each time. If you can get into this habit (even now!) you’ll seriously strengthen your confidence and your understanding. Give it a go!

Mr Bicen… I wonder if you or anyone that you know has experienced this… Where because you’re studying so much (like me who has a full time job and studies 50 hours per week) it’s affected my social skills and my ability to interact with others. Where as before I started studying there was no problem in being social with anyone and everyone. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Perhaps its my fault for putting my studies first at the expense of other areas of life like relationships.
@BicenMaths
@BicenMaths Год назад
Wow, that is a huge amount of time commitment to work and study, you must be exhausted! I haven’t experienced something exactly like this, but I know that there are times where I study/work intensely on something mathematical, so much so I have felt like I’ve been in another world - and then coming back to the ‘real world’ takes a bit of time for me to adjust. I have found it helpful to go for a walk, or to do something very different to get me back to ‘normal’. Do try and keep a balance with personal relationships, as ultimately these are more important, and will also carry you through tough times with work and your study. I expect it’s quite normal when you are dedicating a lot of time to something, but the fact that you are aware of it is great - I think it’ll help you to try and find some more balance!

hi. for CIE, I don't think that 5:20 (paper little bit more accessible) is the case after paper 1 (9709/12), in fact I think the 2023 paper even less accessible than the 2019 paper. 5:25 if it's higher than 2019 everyone who sat 9709/12 at 2023 will get lower grades is 2023 grade boundary is guaranteed to be higher than 2019? there's a petition to make the grade boundary of 2023 paper 9709/12 lower than the grade boundary of 2019 paper. 9709/12 paper was definitely harder in 2023. people were crying in the exam hall.

Hi sir, thanks for this! I just wanted to ask I’m at a B right now in maths. My main struggle is knowing what method and working out to use in order to get to the final answer. I know my content it’s just the exam qs. I have been practicing a lot but wanted to ask if u have any final tips, tricks, hacks or advice for the last 3 weeks please?? Thank youuu
@BicenMaths
@BicenMaths Год назад
It sounds like you really know the content - so I'd recommend you feeling confident that you have the tools to be able to answer any question! Pause at the start and think which tools that you have are required - don't go reinventing maths and trying something you've never seen or done before! I would also recommend screenshotting/saving any questions that you found difficult when practising, and returning to them a few days later. Make sure that you are *always* practising in timed conditions, as this will help you get used to the pace that you need to be hitting in the exam. Any more questions, let me know! You can do this, being in the position of a B right now is great, just a few more marks to convert to an A, or even an A* - it is totally possible, just keep going!

Mr Bicen, I’m sorry if you’ve covered this Q before but when it comes to topic tests. What percentage would you have to achieve in order to mark the topic as “green” or “I’m happy with that topic, let’s move on”?
@BicenMaths
@BicenMaths Год назад
I haven’t covered this before - mostly because it really is dependent on the topic test! Instead of thinking about a mark, I’d ask you to reflect on your understanding levels - do you have a solid foundation in the concepts? Do you need practice to feel quicker at the skills? Are there big gaps in your knowledge? These are the kinds of things that you should be asking yourself after doing an assessment/topic test, rather than just thinking about the mark. Does that help/make sense?

I would expect there to be 16 questions again - have a flick at the beginning so you can check! It's possible that a few of these might only be 3 or 4 marks though, so try not to see it as the NUMBER of questions, but more about where the marks are distributed - look out for the big mark questions!

I noticed that Cambridge International A Level Maths has higher grade threshold than the Ofqual-regulated lot even though the questions for both are pretty much equal in difficulty with Cambridge International having Complex Numbers + Volume of Solids of Revolution + Vector Equation of Line in A Level Maths. Exams start at May or October. I'm sitting the May exam and will drive to the other side of the UK just to sit the exam. The last A Level Maths exam for Cambridge is at 12 May. I also noticed the Ofqual regulated A Level have later exam time than Cambridge International for both (I)GCSE/O Level and A Level. I’d think carefully about how you feel in the exam - it sounds like you’re under a lot of stress (understandably) and probably aiming to get everything correct, and when you don’t, you feel even worse. Consider that you’re not actually aiming for full marks - an A is around 60%! This means that you can miss out on lots of marks and still be really successful. The calmer you are in the exam, the better - try to remember that grade boundaries aren’t that high, and it’s OK to skip a question to get on with other questions!
