This tutorial helped me a lot. When I first jumped into the game I felt like I had no control over my character but the visual aids you added to the video really helped me visualize the movement and swings. Than you!
Even though I'm not really a beginner, this vid was still helpful. Just read your comments regarding the intermediate guide, hope you do it eventually. Also, your other videos are pretty funny, hope you make more of those in the future.
And here I become the 880th subscriber to your channel ! I began playing this game yesterday, so let me tell you that your videos help a lot to get correctly into this physical nightmare. Thank you for making such a useful content ! (Sorry for my english)
Very high quality content! This is really helpful (you can’t imagine the satisfaction I had when I could finally beat shielded enemies with ease by stabbing their toes). I do have a question though. In your pole hammer montage videos, you can consistently hit the enemy in the head with horizontal swings. However, when I use this move, I usually hit the arm or rib. Did you make your character higher to achieve this effect? Furthermore, in your new tutorial, can you demonstrate strengths and weaknesses or neat tricks (like spear toe stab) of different weapons?
Thanks! I always choose the tallest character. Those clips are highlights of a 1000 hrs of gameplay, so it certainly doesn't always look like that. Another thing to note is that there is some amount of randomness to swing heights, but there are certain ways to swing each weapon to help influence them to do what you want. I'm gonna try to show those things in the next tutorial, but even if I do they may change it in the next update because they mess with the fighting physics just about every update.
@@gerasrd3274 Hey Geras! I've been enjoying your tutorials! Especially the diagonal overhead one, been using them a lot more! I found out making this that tutorials are hard as crap to make, at least for me. I hope the next ones will be easier with a more focused scope. I'll be looking forward to your next videos as well!
@@tygar1221 Thx man, glad to hear that), btw i started make exanima content because of your videos, so if not you i would not have made these tutorials :)
Thanks for the video, the fighting system in this game is really hard to understand and learn. I dont know if I have the patience for this. In fact I survive just as long if I just stand there and do nothing compared to if I fight back.
You're definitely right the combat system is hard to learn, but it does get a whole lot easier once you've got a base sense of it. Are you playing the story mode or arena first? Also have you completed both practice modes?
@@tygar1221 I tried both modes, story first and after getting beat up a couple of times I tried practice mode. I wont give up yet and will try again though.
@@shogunhk If you can get through both practice arenas then you should have a much better chance at the campaign. Also try a few trough away runs in the campaign where you just fight everything and plan on dieing. This should help you through the first 3 levels. How far have you gotten in story so far?
OK, I'm lost right from the start. When I start the novice practice mode, I need to create and arm a character then am loaded right into a fight. Where's that lovely practice room you load into ? A change through an update, maybe ? I'm a total Exanima noob & have only played less than an hour out of frustration In other news I watched your Pro Wrestling vid. that got my sub ! Funny as hell and I plan on trying those techniques in combat, hehe !
The practice room in the video is the waiting room in standard arena (probably should have stated that in the vid) When you load in its through a door directly opposite the merchant. Also if you want to do shield wrestling, I would suggest watching angrytrex's tutorial on it. The shield wrestling I do is more for show than fighting. It's less effective in a fight. Good luck man, let me know if you have any other questions.
@@tygar1221 Thank you for the reply ! I thought it looked familiar, as I've been in the waiting room in regular arena. OK, now I know ! As for shield fighting, I was thinking it wouldn't be too effective, just fun. Dropping a chair on someone's head, on the other hand, seems quite effective !
Can you make a video about using daggers in a clinch? I killed almost all demons with a shield and a clinch, I tried using daggers, but a straight sword like an isosceles triangle worked better for this, but I still have a prejudice that daggers are preferable for such actions, I just could not implement it. Maybe you can do better?
Oh and a question! I've had Exanima for a long time but only 2 weeks ago have gotten a computer that can actually run it. Would you ever consider doing walk-through/breakdown videos of the various levels?
Sorry walk throughs and let's plays aren't really my thing. If I can get my butt in gear and make this next tutorial video. I'll just have one more tutorial after that. Then go straight back to entertainment videos, those are what I really enjoy making.
Nice video! I would like to know how to swing the overhead faster. On videos it seems to come out quickly but when I do it, it feels like the swing stops midway. Also, the overhead swing with a twohanded weapon happens slightly left of my cursor, what's up with that? I need help because I can't seem to connect my overhead strikes
Thanks! I still have to do some testing with the new physics changes, but I imagine crouch timing or footwork is what you'll need for faster overheads. I'll add that to the intermediate combat guide when I make it.
Sorry I need to add a note on the video, that training area is in the normal arena lobby. As soon as you go into the normal arena lobby go through the door directly opposite the merchant.
It can be frustrating starting out, but after you get your timing and ranging down you can land hits with even small weapons. Do you have a question about something?
this is a fun game. but getting over that learning curve is extremely repetitive. i would like to try out some other weapons in the arena. but you only get a hammer, knife or stick. the shop only has high lvl weapons. i dont understand why i cant keep the weapons i pick up in the arena? maybe sell them for 1 bronze piece, to get over that beginning part. or the shop could sell some weapons i can actually use. ive played the arena for like 2-3 hours now and its the same thing over and over, and im getting bored, i want to progress already.
Yea the learning curve is rough for sure. Also you can hire a merchant in the arena to look for specific classes of weapons and/or armor. Makes it much easier to find what you want. To find a merchant to hire keep checking the hirelings listings for one labeled merchant.
Playing without resetting camera is pure cancer. Id rather control my character with a wii dancemat using my tongue than do this shit. Rebinding V to Alt gives you amazing control and fluidity of movement so I recommend that instead
Whatever works for you is good, the only reason I said that is because while you're moving the camera you cant use your mouse to swing. When you press V (or whatever you switched it to) the cursor moves position too. You can learn to work around those things, but you can also learn to not move the camera a lot. One last thing is that you can't always have the camera directly behind your character if there's something in the way of them like a pillar, enemy, wall, ect. So being able to move your character from different view points can come in handy when that happens as well.
Thanks, yea I agree it's definitely not for everybody, but at least you gave it a try to find out. Just curious, how many hours did you play before deciding it's not for you? I know a few people that hated it at first, but really enjoyed it when they came back because the combat started to click with them.
Dont buy this game if you dont like drunk fight simulator. Its awful. I dont wanna be rude but the physics...Oh my god its really bad. I spent 5 hours to learn the game because i was expecting something rewarding after i learn its combat and stuff. But even if you learn how to play its fucking boring. Camera system is bad, movement is stupid and the game feels like its out of your control and i mean in a bad way. I do respect people who love this but if you are not into weird broken games listen to me, dont buy it. And im not a "casual" gamer. I played hundreds of Rogue like games but this, this is just bad. Amateur. Only a really small minority would like this so dont buy it. But if you like weird physiced games or more like weird games you can give it a try. Maybe you like it. I was expecting something more quality thats why i get dissapointed.
It's certainly not for everyone, and the drunkenness in the beginning is mostly due to being new to the game. Once you get used to controlling your character he should mostly look quite sober. Being casual or not doesn't matter when starting this game since you can't rely much on your past muscle memory because the controls are unlike anything else. If anything people that are experienced gamers can get frustrated because they aren't immediately good. To say that its bad is subjective, to say that its amateur or low quality is just wrong if you're comparing it to other games on the market. It mostly sounds like you want to vent and I get it, it's really frustrating starting out, but in my opinion is totally worth the effort if you have the time and interest.
Can't wait to play the new update! Unfortunately I don't think I'll do any full walkthroughs, from here on out it'll most likely be combat tutorials and entertainment videos.
The best tutorial ineed. It's a shame I didn't run into it before, you'd saved me a lot of nerves. Anyway looking forward to seeing the advanced combat tutorial. Subscribed.
I downloaded this game a few months back and hated it. Tonight I randomly thought of this game and wanted to give it another try. After watching these vids I'm glad I tried again!
I recently picked up Examina, and have been learning the brute force way until I found this. I had no idea I could look in chests unless it was already a movable prop. The next thing I hope to learn is how to heal the more permanent damage.
The game really looks like it has improved a lot from this video compared to my first time playing it today. Was absolutely epic & I stayed up all night playing it! Getting good & beat the beginner practice mode & now ready for story tomorrow! Great game, great price & I couldn't recommend it more. The optimization is truly a thing of beauty too
OTL awesome vid! I cant wait to see when you break down your amazing moves. Didnt even realise you could doubleclick your own character ToT The kite tactic you mentioned at the end: One thing i found by dumb chance whilst figuring out the Ui... was while in Combat mode, i Shift-click to interact with my Torch in order to "gravgun" carry it DESPITE wielding a 2handed weapon. More importantly, i found i can still move my char once the torch is in the no-placement zone... Its made exploring dark places much much more fun and pleasant, and not requiring me to just kite enemies into brighter areas. Just drop the torch n rock! Only major downside to this is the game will only cache the original pickup coordinates. (So i like to drop it every now n then to avoid having to run back and get it.) And if u accidentally release the torch in the no-drop area it will teleport all the way back to the original pickup point.
This room doesn't seem to exist for training any more, training just plonks you into a basic fight. But I would really like a space where I can experiment with inputs without having to worry about anything else. I suppose the developer is aiming for a balance of "learning under pressure" with "learning without bad consequences." Nevertheless, this is an immensely helpful tutorial and it's already helping me get a handle on the game a lot - something to keep coming back to as I learn and improve at the beginner level. Thank you very much!
Sorry should have put a note in the video, that room is in the main arena lobby. As soon as you load into the arena hub it's through the door directly opposite the merchant. Glad the guide is helping! :)
Hey man, how do you get into a training area like that? Just bought the game and the only option I have is fighting bots in arena practice. I need to get familiarized with movement and I dont know how you got to where you are in this video with the training dummy.
I just downloaded this game and my first attempt at playing it was quite comical. I go to Arena mode, I buy my guy a hat and a mallet. Looking like I'm ready to go to work driving fence posts I start my first Arena Battle. Upon entering the arena I don't have my Mallet or my cool Ozzy hat :( and I find myself facing a pissed off woman with a butcher's cleaver. No big deal, I'll just let her swing and Miss then get in close and punch the crap out of her, had enough experience at that IRL (not really, just a joke) but instead I find myself pressing every button and rather than striking I just sort of dance around her, gently pushing like we're at a Chris Stapleton concert. (I know I should have read the manual, I just didn't feel like it at the time)
This game is much more interesting and technical than i first thought watching another preview where the player had no idea about really training or even learning the controls so it made the game look like garbage because they played like a dumb drunk.
I'd love to, but life got a little crazy then it got really busy. This time last year I thought I was finally gonna have some time again, but it just never slowed down. I also started another project and it takes me a long time to create and edit my videos so they got pushed onto the back burner. I really hope I'll start back up with them soon, thanks for the encouragement!
Sad to see that you won't be doing any playthroughs or anything. personally speaking, you're very entertaining. And thank you so much for this guide. helped a lot!
