EXCAVATOR EXPOSES STORMSEWER -- REMOVES COVER

An excavator is shown removing fill around a manhole so its' height can be adjusted for a new street. The skilled operator maneuvers the bucket within mere inches of the cover and the concrete structure. An example of a good machine with a good operator.
Notice how comfortable the guys in the hole are with the bucket working near them.

Holy crap! What he did with that manhole cover was nothing short of amazing!

I love how gentle it looks from aside, but actually involves serious power.

It's not only the operator, it's the spotters as well. I've been in road construction for 9 years and have seen some pretty amazing shit. Kudo's to the crew!

"Notice how comfortable the guys in the hole are with the bucket working near them." Man when I first hopped on a machine for this current company it was a mess (was digging with an old sloppy backhoe) the supervisor and guys were comfortable right away, you become complacent with machines. The guy is good but all the operators (city) I've worked with can operate well within 'inches' of live services at the bottom of a 20ft trench, not 5 feet from the cab lol, operators are generally precise within an inch/half inch that I work with. Need to for curb prep, roads pretty close as well.

I had to see the video, at least, twice, to believe what this guys are do. How is it possible to use such a huge machine with this precision, And the other guys less than one feet away from the bucket. One wrong little move of the operator, and the man in the hole are meatloaf. The operator is a real profesionell.
@dimos47ki7
@dimos47ki7 11 лет назад
the pipe under the manhole cover is concrete made, and is not fixed with the manhole cover itself. the cover is basically free standing on top of the concrete, so no damage can be done, unless the excavator breaks the concrete pipe itself

Pretty good operator -- very smooth. I'm not going to say I'm "better" but while I was learning on an 330 in a quarry.. I used to pick up 600mL plastic soda bottles with my bucket -- just for fun... and practice in my "smoothness"

So what you are saying is...In Norway you would rent a 5 tonner for this little sewer drain then rent an 8 tonner to finish up the rest of the project? Point being, you are making assumptions without knowledge of the situation or reason this machine was used. This video was shared with us to appreciate operator skill, not the logistics behind a construction project we know nothing about.

I was thinking the exact opposite. I figured a bucket with teeth would be more advantageous.
@brucej.3168
@brucej.3168 10 лет назад
Not really, your more likely to hook a waterline or a water shutoff with teeth. Although with the space between the teeth you would be less likely to hook something. I can see your point too.
@25mfd
@25mfd 10 лет назад
Bruce J. These guys definitely don't want to hook ANYTHING. How much would it cost this company to repair ripped out fiber optic cables or electric lines??? We had some utility workers dig up some electrical lines in downtown Milwaukee. Probably cost a fortune to fix.

It is beyond doubt very skilful driving. But a bucket with no back in it makes it a whole lot easier. I used to know a guy who used the same technique and he was classed as an amateur for his famous hole in the bucket routines. He owned three machines which he would never allow anyone else to drive, Only himself

@ theshowentertainment--- the part that he moved is only the manhole lid sometimes they're concreted in by this one hasn't been so moving its not a problem if he was to know the manhole itself then it would affect the pipes going into it. And about his skill for that size digger and picking up the manhole lid like that... He's sharp as bro

Funnily enough, in the UK it is seen as bad practice to dig over the idlers, as a large 360 could have the power to weaken the idler springs over time with the constant pull against them, I have been driving machines for over 10 years and i'm now programed to plan my dig with the idlers at the opposite end to my digging, Is there a reason you guys dig over the idlers rather than the track motors?
