Hey bud, I own an E42 Bob Cat mini ex with a hydraulic thumb and it is very versatile. 10,000lb machine. I’ve used it setting 2400lb blocks on retaining walls, digging in irrigation, footings, stump removal and all my landscaping needs. And you are right when you need bigger, rent, which I have done many times. But for an all around good size tractor it is awesome. Good video! Spot on!!

You are soooooo right. I almost bought a backhoe but saw an excavator for the same price. It was in excellent shape with low hours and it sees use almost every day. John Deere, and other than regular greasing requires nothing but oil changes when the hour meter says so.

Love your videos , very informative , I'm in the process of starting my own contracting business and eventually want to get into excavating . I haven't done a lot of landscaping but have done a lot of fine grading I started with 40yr old crappy equipment so I can do a pretty good job leveling and grading by eyeball .I've also ran a big company and know how hard it is to find good help that shows up everyday , so I'd like to be able to do a lot with as little help as possible. I worked for Butler machinery as a yardman, I was responsible for delivering and receiving rental, used, and new equipment. Aswell as maintaing the yard .I got to see a lot of new and innovative stuff mainly on the add ons and in the new equipment . I'm starting to believe there isn't much you can't do with an excavator. So yes please keep the videos coming I enjoy watching and learning so of the stuff I didn't know. I've worked side by side a lot with older carpenter's and I have taken at least something new from each of them , I try to never stop learning so once again thank you!

This is, in my opinion, one of the BEST videos you've put out yet! I always see people saying "Buy the biggest machine you can afford. WRONG! Also, at the end, you talked about getting "creative" with just a dirt bucket and that "skills" pay the bills. Outstanding advice, and could not agree more. My new excavation company is in need of a compaction machine. Some type of small roller. I would love to see a video about that, if you have any experience.

I run a small landscaping company. Jobs range from 10k-200k. Highly recommend the Kubota excavators for the scale of work we do. I have a U17-3 for the small jobs and a KX-40-4 for the larger jobs. Love both of them. Demoed a few other brands, bobcat, Deere, case. And I thought the controls were the smoothest, strength and speed was great on the Kubota. Also great guys at my local dealer.

God bless you man. "Whatever equipment you can afford to buy, be proud of it. Because It's not the bells and whistles that pay the bills, it's the skills that pay the bills" 100% true. "Start with the bare basics before you start spending money you haven't' yet earned." "You have to get clever. You have to get creative, and you gain skills when you use the bare minimum skills. Then when you finally do upgrade to a nice attachment, you'll be that much ahead." your videos are a WEALTH of knowledge. Thanks for this.

try a grounded fitted sheet on your bed for your head aches, when you sleep it slows down your heart rate and takes away stress. Its like sleeping out doors on the ground. EMF can seriously screw with your body, the body has its own energy that needs to be isolated. On amazon, so many people have tried it a lot of the suppliers are sold out. I highly recommend it.

My grandpa had a John Deere backhoe and a bulldozer. He owned a gravel pit in Maine. When he sold the gravel pit he kept the backhoe and bulldozer. I used to play in them when we went to visit during the summer. When my grandpa passed away my uncle got both of them. My uncle still has them to this day. How I wish I could get there and see if I could get them. Would be nice to have them. I know the backhoe was a 68 not sure what year the bulldozer was. Always wanted to run something like a backhoe, excavator, log truck. Will see if the boss will train me on the newer chipper we just got. It has something like what a lot truck has right on it to load wood into the chipper. I just love running equipment like that. Any time I get to use our loader or use the skid steer I enjoy it.

Something new to the USA last year is the Mecalac 6MCR Skidvator. If there was a Leatherman tool for excavation this might be it. It is a excavator that can move at 6 mph or 10 kmh. It's a skid steer that can dig. The only reason that you don't see more machines like this is because the equipment companies want to sell you multiple machines. I been watching this company for fifteen years now and they are definitely thinking outside the box and growing

You are so right on the guys running the older equipment, I grew up in the age of excavators didn't have "thumbs", and TLB's didn't have "front assist", and what was a mini digger or skid steer you hardly ever saw one L.O.L. To be honest the "newer" generations should have the safety training, and run the older equipment without the toy's as part of the training to they'd learn a lot about "operating" equipment. A buddy of mine's about 55 and runs his own equipment and sub drives for another company . He said if the machine they use to put pipe in goes down 95% of the 10 year olds on the sub job can't pick up a culvert without using a thumb. He goes over there and educates them. I've walked my 2wd TLB in and out of situations, the 10 year old's are burying a front assist and need towing out with a dozer or track hoe. How the heck do these younger guys think anything ever got done when machines didn't have all the toys, it still happened somehow L.O.L. Thanks for sharing and I hope you got rid of the migraines.

At 23 I'd had migraines all through high school and college. 3-4 times a week. Mine were so bad I could only find relief by sleeping it off with valium or sitting in a quiet closet in the dark. Went to get braces on my teeth, after the X-rays the doctor asked if I'd been having bad head aches. Never mentioned them to him. Turns out an impacted wisdom tooth, all 4 where impacted, was pressing on a nerve. Never had a problem with my teeth other than being crooked. After removal I've had the regular head aches everyone gets but have never had another migraine.

Excellent vid, I'd like to comment on appearance vs. maintenance/operation. Yes, they do have to work and work hard when the time comes, but personally I feel appearance is nearly as important. I run older equipment, and spend a lot of time on maintenance, cleaning and upkeep. People notice a nice looking outfit, that's good P.R. and truck-wise keeps the DOT nuisance-stops (mostly) off my back as well - I think they figure if my truck looks like someone's taking care of it odds are that's indeed the case. And it's an integral part of my machinery maintenance program, too; if power, hydraulic and drivetrain areas are pretty shiny, it's easy to see when leaks, cracks and other assorted faults appear. Same with frames, undercarriage, tracks/tires and suspension. Additionally, working on them is far easier when you're not rummaging through gobs of caked on grease, oil and dirt. My 2¢ ...

Migraines: hey Stan, thanks for the fine vids; now, regarding migraines, most of the suggestions are pretty good. For myself I’ve discovered that totally eliminating wheat products for a year cured many health symptoms, including migraines. I’ve been able to re-introduce fermented bread (sourdough) lately. Give it a try, doesn’t cost you anything. Coffee and chocolate were mentioned; cutting them out probably good - I haven’t needed to do that. Cheers

Down here where we are at Caterpillar has been the dealer that takes care of us best! WE have a couple pieces of Komatsu and they are great machines but parts are a considerable amount of more money when they do break. We do also have quite a few John Deere farm tractors and a early 90s 310 turbo John Deere backhoe that I think is indestructible. Always wanted to give Volvo a shot but the nearest dealer is a hour and a half away and that just wouldn't be practicable.

bill thompson consider getting an MRI, chronic splitting headaches without any obvious reason can sometimes be something much more serious going on inside the skull. It could be a spinal problem causing fluid build up, a tumor causing pressure as it displaces fluid inside your skull, could be signs of clotting causing swelling which can unexpectedly hemorrhage and kill you before you even realize what's happened. There's a lot of serious problems that can come from chronic headaches. If blood pressure is fine, allergies are fine, and youre drinking plenty of water, laying off the caffeine, salt, and none of it seemed to fix the problem, you should really consider going to specialist and getting an MRI just to be safe. If nothing serious is going on, paying for an MRI may seem like a waste of money, but think of how much less an MRI costs as apposed to finding out you need extremly costly emergency spine, brain, or general skull surgery to live some random day when what's causing that headache rears its head. My friend's father was only in his early 40s, he owned a massive business, had a great life with 3 kids and was a great guy to me and others. He had constant headaches but always ignored them, and a few months ago what was causing his headaches took his life. His brain hemorrhaged from an unknown clot, and he died before his family could even get to the hospital, leaving his young daughter and two sons fatherless. A good MRI is worth every penny for the piece of mind, I hope you consider getting one.

i just bought a cat 304E. i love it. my favorite part and mostly why i bought a cat is the roller on the joysticks for the hydraulic thumb.. i don't like aux hydraulic controls on the floor and the other brands in my price range have the controls on the floor rather than on the joysticks.. deere and others have thumb controls now but on current models and that is just way way out of grasp for me... cat stated with the thumb controls on the c model then d then e and now e2.. i was about to buy a 305c but the guy sold it so i found a 304e that had an extreamly damaged front blade that i rebuilt and the dipper bushing are totally worn out going into the dipper.. the dipper needs to be welded up and line bored.. other than that the machine is pretty much like new in function.. i got it for about 15k less that comparable hour machines in the same size and age... pure luck on that one... lol

Microdosing Psilocybin is usually an effective way to get rid of migraine and cluster headaches. Spores can be purchased online and are 50 state legal.

I suffer from the same ailment as you. However, I've had them all my life. Migraines, depending on its location and your physiological make are best handled one of 2 ways. First, and certainly the easiest is to take an ice pack(anything in the freezer) and place it on the affect area. Lastly, if you can get prescription painkillers like oxycodone, percocet, codeine etc will give the best results.

Hey Stan would you care to make a video on buying vs leasing equipment for skid loaders and excavators and even commercial mowers? By the way I really like the videos and would like more like you were talking about

How I get rid a headache I pinch or apply pressure on my bridge of 👃🏼 between my eyes 👀 for few seconds and release and most of the time my headache is gone. With out aspirin or any else but if it’s a migraine, maybe it helps doing both for server headache 🤕

I had a video suggestion for you to make. I have been wondering about if you charge different hourly rates for different types of jobs? My two main jobs would be hardscape jobs and maintenance (not mowing) like trimming shrubs and trees, mulch and other. Concerning the maintenance rate, I do charge a little less per hour but not much and people get think it is high and don't get a whole lot because of it. My thinking is that if I am getting so much for hardscaping per hour I don't want to make less doing a different job since I am still paying everyone the same. I have a small company with only one crew so we all do everything. And I still have the same overhead cost no matter which job except for the less wear and tear on the skid loader if we aren't using it. One example we had this past summer is we trimmed all of the shrubs on a 3 acre property almost all Junipers it took us 17 man hours and charged them $50/hr coming to $850. This was also a landscape project too that was a $17000 job. They didn't say anything about the $17000 part of the bill but was concerned about the $850 because she had someone else usually do it for $300. We only did it because we were already there working. I told her that is a great deal and if they do it for $300 then have them do it because I am not going to work all day with 2 of us for $300. Long story short what is your take on this? I know part of your answer would be you have separate crews but there is not enough work always here for separate crews and that takes more trucks and equipment.

You should try getting a skid steer excavator attachment.
