Aimee, do you know if the Excel Plus levels are here to stay?
11 месяцев назад
That’s what they tell us. It’s the open levels that will be phased out.

We start our season in September and have our local competition in December. Then, our skaters typically take part in out-of-town comps in January, February, and sometimes May. As I understand it, I will be utilizing the beginner/high beginner rules for the December competition, but things will have to be changed for the competitions after the new year, correct? Do we know yet if there will be time limit changes for programs?
Год назад
They plan to release the new Compete USA and Excel rules in September. Compete USA competitions should use those rules right away - but check the competition announcement. For Excel, it will start when the new series begins. Again check the competition announcements for details. We don't know what the maximum times will be yet. Look for me to post new videos about this as soon as I hear about it!

Thank you for this update!! Does this mean that compete USA is changing too to reflect Aspire 1 - 4 rather than FS 1 -6? Thanks again!
Год назад
You're welcome! That is EXACTLY what it means. Learn to Skate USA actually made that announcement to coaches about a month ago and I did a short video explaining that here: ru-vid.comfl5Dgk9kL1I?feature=share

Hello! I know the question the topic. But, sometime in the near future explain the categories for Showcase Nationals. I see in last year there was "Masters Lyrical Pop and Masters Emotional Performance. But, I didn't see the class levels. Just Masters? I didn't see any class levels or test levels. Example: Masters Junior/ Senior Ladies and Intermediate/Novice. And I didn't see any age division and do the guys and ladies compete or are they separated? What's the story? Thanks!

This video is about the Excel Series, so your question is slightly off-topic. In general, for local competitions skaters are typically not divided into age classes as there are usually few entries and the LOCs want to ensure events are contested. For Adult Sectionals and Nationals, class levels are used, but often the age classes are combined as the number of registrations doesn't warrant strict age classes. The 2023-2024 Showcase Guidelines do not specify age classes for adults. Any information pertaining to age classes would contained in the competition announcement. When ages classes are used, you don't select an age class when registering. The referee of the LOC makes decision to divide the events by age at their discretion, depending on the number registrations. As far as men and women competing in the same event - Yes, that does happen! And not just when it comes to adults. I have standard track skaters that have combined male and female groups when the registrations don't have enough skaters to allow for contested events otherwise. Again this at the discretion of the LOC referee. I have even competed against men at Adult Sectionals!

Do we know where the 2024 excel national festival will be held?
Год назад
Look for that information following the 2023 Excel National Final & Festival which takes place this week.
@Melissa-yr7fm
@Melissa-yr7fm Год назад
Thank you! I’m hoping is not the same week as ISI nationals. ❤

It’s been in July and they seem committed to that. ISI World Championships is historically in August.

@ it’s been announced that ISI worlds for 2024 is July 24-28 in San Jose. Our rink already committed to this competition, as we are more heavily recreational, and use ISI curriculum. At the same time, I have skaters that are perfect for the excel series. These skaters, some of them teens, have had a couple of bad experiences with usfs and I think excel would be a game changer for them. Thanks again for the information. I love how you are so articulate and clear in your explanations. ❤️

Excel has become more competitive in the past season, as there are many skaters doing both Excel and Well Balanced - although it does vary from competition to competition. I talk more about that in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tjWineKgACU.html

I am a huge excel supporter since its conception in 2019. I am so disappointed to hear of upcoming changes and where it is headed! Based on this video, I feel it is headed right for "wellbalanced" again which isn't balanced at all. Not only that, but taking the open levels away, then makes it even more competitive and decreases places for otherwise successful skaters to not be able to excel.
Год назад
I don't disagree. However, Excel became just as competitive as well balanced last season. I think the organizers are just rolling with it because I can't think of way to change the behavior of what people actually do in practice. Maybe rather than a formal series, they need Open levels that do not permit skaters that compete at Well Balanced (ever) to compete in? IDK that's just a thought! At this rate, U.S. Figure Skating may be driving more recreational skaters to ISI where they can be more competitive.

@ yeah. What I see is that many coaches are using this as a “practice for NQS”. This year I see many skaters (at least down here in Texas) competing well below their ability. It’s just taking away from its integrity I think and the result will be exactly the opposite of my understanding excel was created for - which was to create an environment for athletes to realistically compete in. I think they should have skaters skate in either excel or NQS for the season. And allow change the next season. But just my opinion!
Год назад
I think that could be a solution! However, the only way to see it change is to express your thoughts to the Excel Committee and US Figure Skating
@valeriaflores4277

So unless they are doing a competition that’s in the excel series they can compete at a lower or higher level than their test?
Год назад
Thank you for your question. As I understand it, as of December 1, 2022, singles athletes MAY accelerate their free skate test level, allowing them to pass singles test higher than their competition level. There is a minimum test level, but no maximum. Once a skater enters an official series event (i.e. Excel National Series or NQS), that becomes their “floor” or the lowest level. That skater MAY take a singles test at a higher level. This affects Standard Track Singles: Well balanced program FS, Short program, Excel free skate, National Qualifying Series, Excel Series, and Intercollegiate (for the 2024). I have another video that explains more here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JfR21EohtHM.html
