I’m an amateur radio operator and have been making HF and 6M band (50MHz) contacts across Europe tonight by bouncing the signal off the aurora, the sound of the received audio is very distinctive. Great fun.
I'm pretty sure I 'heard' the X-class flare that occurred just after midnight, without any radio equipment. I also had a phone charger blow on me just before midnight.
Hi Prof. Lewin, I’m a big fan of you and your lectures and still watch some of them. You opened my eyes for the beauty of physics when I saw you on ‘de wereld draait door’ many years ago.. I started watching your lectures on MIT-Open coureseware and read your book 'For the love of Physics'. Now i'm really a physics enthousiast and know, and to some degree understand how, Physics Works! Thanks for that! Last friday I was very hyped by the news of the high chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis in my home town Barneveld in the Netherlands and I made it my evening mission to see it.. and I did! It was Spectacular!
Saw it in Dundee, Scotland (56 degrees N) at midnight. Large thick stratified bands of eerie light in yellow, purple and green colours stretching east to west. Super intense, and I hope everyone else catches a glimpse too! Good to see you Prof... hope you and yours are keeping well!
I was fortunate enough to see the northern lights for the first time in Southern Canada between 11pm and midnight. A kind stranger explained the basics of geomagnetism and coronal masses to the rest of us out on the small trail by my house under the cover of near-total darkness. It was hard to see the actual northern lights, they looked more like tinted clouds, but under the lens of my phone camera they were beautiful and bright. I had never seen such vibrant purples and greens. I think it was the most stunning thing I have ever seen in my life. Thank you professor for your brilliant videos. I am majoring in biochem this fall, but I love learning just how beautiful physics can be.
I live in 44805 Bochum, Germany 51,8° and in the night from Friday 10.5.2024 after Saturday 11.5.2024 i stood with my twin brother in a nearby field from 10 p.m. to 1.20 a.m and took very impressive pictures of magenta and green polar lights. I got much more than I expected and i have never seen green polar lights before. Perhaps the first and last time to experience something like that. The special was, that the polar lights ranged from north - west over north to north - east and from the horizon up to an angle about 40°.
Well i will try again tomorrow, just tried to see something in Groningen but it's completely clouded right now. But tomorrow night the predictions says that it will be a complete clear sky, so i am really happy you said i have a chance tomorrow!!!
I read your book called For the Love of Physics. In this way, I realized how entertaining many of the things I encounter in daily life are. Your book added color to my life. I love you Walter Lewin
If you have the opportunity to observe the aurora then look straight up through the veils, see if you can see a twisted vortex like what you see when you look down at the veils from satellite imagery
Been watchin solar weather for a long time now! Solar propogation states the effects tonight from the CME on the 8th as extreem! Thanks for your post Doc!
The skies above Wiltshire, England lit up once it became dark, and continued to grow in intensity as the moon set to the Northwest. The initial glow was a light green that spread quickly to span the entire northern horizon. As the lights grew in intensity the colours became more vivid and reds blues and purples could be seen to the West and East, with the North still having a bright green hue. At times the intensity would increase for a few minutes at a time and high contrast banding intensified, with the bands all converging overhead and slightly to the South. At times green colours could be seen to the South, but these were more patchy. It was awesome.
Hello sir. I 'm your regular student from India.. I just passes my 10th grade. I follow you since class 8th when I knew nothing about physics😅 and learned many things from you... Sir I was waiting for your recent video from a long time..sir keep uploading your videos, students such as me love studying clear and crystal concepts of physics from you.... ❤❤
I live in northern Switzerland. It was the first time I saw northern lights. It was spectacular to walk out of the house and to see this phenomenon happening. I didn’t have words for it. Hope you all got to see them as well!!
I am in East Tennessee, USA. I went out to check the sky at 10:10pm local time. The northern sky was pinkish red in a way that did not look normal. But the light pollution where I live is so strong that it's hard to say what I was really seeing. Maybe I will be inspired to drive somewhere darker before dawn, but I have been sick, so maybe I won't be up for it. Light pollution certainly cuts us off from a lot of beauty.
Hello Sir, I just wanted to thank you for all the effort of your each lectures and youtube videos. I study electrical and electronics engineering but After I watch your videos, You make me love physics and Now I decided to learn more about physics. I really appreciate for everything sir. Lastly, I really loved your book! . Love From Turkey
Oh wow just saw it naked eye in San Antonio, Texas! Faint pink but it's there. Never would have thought there was any way I'd see northern lights in San Antonio.
@@lecturesbywalterlewin.they9259 🤗Hello, Hello, Hello best professor, it is 2:30 am in Germany and I have never seen such beautiful northern lights over my small town It was very fascinating!!! P.S. Thank you for your impressive books, they are a lot of fun to read Best regards
Hey Walter! Groetjes. Olivier.
Love from India sir.❤ I am preparing for jee and want to ask you that, you are one of best physics teachers and i mean it, but whom should i follow for Maths and chem? Any suggestions sir? I will be glad to see.
sir i 'm studying in class 10. i and my friend have a doubt that In the case where the angle of incidence is zero(Normal Incidence) , in that case when the light came from denser to rarer, i think it would bend away from the normal because if it will not bend then it will take less time to cover that distance. But we know that time is always Constant when source is same.. but in reality it passes without deviation . So where the problem is as both statements are about same topic ?
Hello, sir I am a high school senior student from India, I have been watching your videos since the 8th grade not that I understand it but I love it. Now that I can understand your lectures. Could you let me know if your lectures are enough for IAT & NEST? [if you are unaware of these exams, they are basically exams of India to get into IISERS, IISC Bangalore, NISER, etc. How JEE ADVANCED IS FOR ENGINEERING AND NEET is to become a doctor, at the undergraduate level, IAT&NEST are similar exams for becoming a scientist or getting into research.]HUGE FAN AND LOVE FROM INDIA. STAY WELL!!!!! WE NEED YOU
Hello Sir I am a physics student.I believe in the beauty of physics. I have been watching your lectures and I really want to thank you for this....🙏 Sir Can you mention few hints on the topic "Time traveling"
Sir I'm reading in class 9th and I have a question that....when I was seeing a Hypergolic fuel Nitrogen tetroxide and I came to an equation of this showing ΔH^θ what is it actually?....Enthalpy?...please explain me Entropy, Negentropy and Enthalpy....
@@lecturesbywalterlewin.they9259 I had a go at part (a) of your latest problem. Am I at least getting close to the answer or way off? I had to make further assumptions to get my head around it, but I think I may be still off a bit... Am I right with this assumption for the y component of v₀, for instance? 😕 v₀ᵧ=√(2gh), where h= change in height over duration of rocket burn. Sorry that I haven't had time to do all parts as I had connectivity issues. 🤷📴〰️☀️🌌
@@lecturesbywalterlewin.they9259 I didn't read the problem correctly and used the wrong angle! 🤦. I will leave my alternate version of the problem there anyway. You mentioned WW2 and I was thinking of Nazi rockets!
Wow the video just came out while I was trying to see the northern lights from my balcony. Well, I cannot really see the colours with naked eye but black and white transitions on the sky. But they become visible with my phone’s camera especially when playing with the saturation a little bit - I hope that doesn’t count as cheating sir 😅
Watch all my 94 MIT course lectures. Start with 8.01, then 8.02, then 8.03. Do all the homework and take all my exams. *I guarantee you that you will then do very well on the Physics portion of any freshman college or JEE exam* You will find all information you need on this channel in three playlists "Homework, Exam, SolutionsY & Lecture Notes". 8.01 & 8.02 will each take about 200 hours, 8.03 about 250 hours.
Good afternoon sir I am from Punjab "India" Can you explain the concept of time dilation in the theory of relativity, and how it affects our perception of time? Love you sir you are legend 💕
Time dilation is the lengthening of the time interval between two events for an observer in an inertial frame that is moving with respect to the rest frame of the events (in which the events occur at the same location). take a course in SR
Love You From India Sir,I Am Studying In Class 9. I Want To Become A Doctor by passing the neet exams. I Know That Physics Is Little Harder So I have question that how can I Love With Physics Like You ❤... Sir I Also Want To Meet But When I'll Get Longer I might Meet You Sir.....🥺.. May God Give You A Place In His Hearth Love You Sir From India... (Please Reply) How I Fall In Love In Physics ❤.
Hello Sir , Shashwat here, from India. For the last 2 to 3 days a question has been bothering me about space travel. The Question is why can we implode the boundaries of the Universe (Similar to that of the big bang) to a place just a couple of miles away from earth. What thing is stopping us instead of creating that big pouch of pull to the boundary of the universe. Waiting for your reply I have a lot of interesting questions like this which will be fun to discuss on. Thanking your Your student Shashwat Shukla
*why can we implode the boundaries of the Universe (Similar to that of the big bang) to a place just a couple of miles away from earth.* take some courses in astronomy - by the way we can travel into the future (Einstein's SR) but not to the past (we could then have killed our mother before we were born)
For the Love of Physics.......This is Mr Mpulule Innocent Physics teacher from Tanzania, I experienced errors in Internet and communication in mobile. I have related this to the Solar Storm happened, perhaps my guess is right.
Hi professor Walter I'm 15 years old and I don't dominate English. Well it's probably that you won't read this message but I must say I have never been so surprised and interested in physics because of you. I'm from america latina and I know that you professor really love physics but I think you should stay more time with your family and friends because in my low experience of life I have learned that family is the most important thing in our lives and I think you should remember it too, Proffessor Walter Lewin. You are and excellent proffessor and person mr. Walter. _by a young guy named Sebastian Figueroa in America latina. 11 May - 2024 - 22:05 pm
that’s not true. The Corona Borealis is a constellation. The Northern Lights are called the Aurora Borealis, while the Southern Lights are called the Aurora Australis.
Hiii sir ❤ my name is Aryan Kumar from India and currently i am in class 11th and preparing for JEE 2026 examination so can you please tell me some suggestions to boost up my JEE preparation ❤ Lots of respect and love from India 🎉

I have been 4 times in India. My last visit in 2014 lasted 6 weeks and I gave 8 lectures. Given my age and the air polution in India my medical staff does not want me to go back to India.
Sir, I am a physics lover. And I believe I have created a hypothesis on how electrons behave when they arbitrarily move among their clouds within their respectice shells. I am 15 and dont have any idea how to express my thesis in general public. Please help me in this regard, I would be glad. Respect from a physics lover from India❤❤
