I can't listen to this song without becoming an emotional wreck. Many years ago I discovered a reel to reel recording of me singing this song as a 5 year old. I loved it back in the 60's, as I do now. The entire original Keith West opera is just brilliant. When the world was a better place! Thanks Dad for giving me that memory.
Simply Delightful, remember the original from Keith West, 1967, (showing my age there) always loved this, I believe this was planned stage production about a grocer of the town who died, but it never got to see the light of day, anyway, great vid, great production. Well done!!!!
Oh the memories. I was 8 years old when the original song was released in 1967 and whilst I love the original song this is a lovely version reproduced authentically. Also nice to see this performed by some non English performers. Thankfully music transcends nationality’s. I hope the children performing understood the message the song was trying to convey. I don’t understand some of the nasty and disparaging comments which I hope you can ignore in favour of those of us that appreciate your efforts. Thanks for uploading. 👍
Well done for a fabulous performance! Difficult to get a live version of the song but you've done really well. The kids' voices are perfect! Brilliant!
Ich bin absolut begeistert von dieser Version - sie ist mit soviel Liebe und Akriebie zum Detail gemacht - versucht alles, was das "Original" an Arrangement hergibt zu reproduzieren - einfach fnatastisch. Gratulation - Congratulations to you all...
Toevallig hier terecht gekomen en dacht direct wat leuk is dit! Het plezier straalt van de gezichten. Het zal de makers ongetwijfeld voldoening geven. Dat is af te lezen aan de vrolijke gezichten. Geweldig!
This song charted high in Europe. It reached number 1 in The Netherlands, higher than in the UK where it reached number 2. I assume these people singing are from The Netherlands, they sound Dutch.
Goed gezongen ,echt perfect nog bijna mooier dan het origineel, mag je eigenlijk wel niet zeggen maar toch en mooi op het toneel gedaan met die vrouwen en kinderen erbij echt perfect
This song was famously recorded by Keith West, who released his version as a single in 1967. The single charted at Number 2 in both the UK and Ireland.
Larry Wyse My sister and I were from the original children who sang Grocer Jack on TOTPS in 1967. I can only find footage of the children playing in the woods. How can we find original footage of us kids singing in a group on TOTPS stage?
Simply A-M-A-Z-I-N-G just a little bit more energy and the drama atmosphere Keith missed too. It’s an opera, make it enigmatic, stylish, mysterious but cool!
Before Muslims and prostitution, we had real muzack! Nowadays kids just play Donkey Kong on fucking Gameboy while becoming radicalized over the two-way radio! I blame O'Bama!
Its always hoing to he difficult to sound like the original - i think that it is being sung by a German man, their is a strong accent, but its a commendable effort - the kids sang confidently - and to them, english is s foreign language, if it goes wrong, they could easily default to German
Oh such a purist am I. To my ears this does not work because the children are American and sound whiney and annoying while the English children on the original sound plaintiff and innocent.
