Exciting Latin Groove Drum Solo Ken Loomer Big Band

When I do a concert with my Ken Loomer Big Band, I like to do all styles of music. I love Latin music because of the great Tito Puente who I got to see live with his latin jazz big band in the 90`s. This is a wonderful latin samba song call Brazil. When playing in a Big Band, I want to drive the band with my drumming and keeping the groove solid during this outstanding arrangement of Brazil. During my latin drum solo, I did it Big Band style going off the groove at times to do solid fills before going back to the latin samba groove. I`m playing on my 50 year plus Slingerland drums with that big full open tone which has that one of a kind sound.

Playing latin music with a full Big Band is just so wonderful to do. Plus working with these outstanding musicians is why this arrangement sounds so good. Thanks for your comment.

Like Buddy, it`s always about the music first. I have to thank my outstanding musicians for playing the arrangement the way I wanted it to sound. I want to drive the Big Band with my drumming to support my musicians. The best feeling for me as a drummer big band leader to work with all of these great players. Thanks Charlie for your comment.

My best talent I think is that of being a Big Band leader. Getting all the music together, hiring the best musicians, telling my musicians how I want the arrangement to be played. When it`s my turn to so a solo, I want to be relaxed and have a good flow to it. Thanks for your comment.

I`m doing a Cascara latin beat pattern I learned from the Afro-Cuban Rhythms drumset book by Frank Malabe. My 50 plus year old Slingerland kit is still the best sounding drums I ever played on. Thanks so much for your comment.

@@andrewingham7049 Do you play concerts with your band Andy? Glad to hear you are playing those classic Slingerland drums. I use mine all the time doing these concerts. Still the best sounding drums I have ever played on. Plus they look great in that Marine Pearl finish.

@@KenLoomer haven't had many gigs this year with my blues band, my health took a turn last year,I think I may have mentioned it to you before, in my emails. But I have been diagnosed with lukemia & it's making me unwell from time to time, I'm looking at kemo therapy & it's being monitored, it's not much fun when I had to cancel a few gigs,but I'm doing ok at the moment,the slingerland is great therapy for me at home,as well as my guitar playing..I'll send footage of me playing it..from your friend Andy in Adelaide South Australia..
