Amelia and JP VLOG 230: We have SEVERAL new and exciting developments going on here in Olón; things that we took for granted in Cuenca and Denver, but were sorely lacking here in our tiny rural beach town. If you're planning a visit or move here, you're definitely going to like what's happening!
Plus, we walked over to the green and growing comuna garden that we featured very early in the quarantine: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m8g3H6K3-U4.html
And we shared several of the most popular expat restaurants in Olón so you'll know where to eat when you get here!
If you would like to donate to the Coastal Animal Rescue of Ecuador to help us keep our new vet clinic, your donation is fully tax deductible in the US: www.coastalanimalrescueecuador.com/
Thanks to our patrons, we're able to continue publishing our RU-vid videos for everyone to enjoy! If you would like to learn more about the benefits of joining Our Unconventional Community on Patreon, click here: www.patreon.com/ameliaandjp

Qué bien que progrese ese lindo pueblo de Olón pero asimismo que no pierda el encanto que le da ese aire de rusticidad y naturaleza. Gracias "JP and Amelia" por mostrarnos el Ecuador profundo. Qué lindo!!!!

love it - the vlog maybe showing simple, quite local life, but that what makes the difference,, we don't want to see the same as we have it here, lots of people, traffic, stress - you are showing the happiness of nature. keep it up.

That small tree is a papaya. Papaya trees are fast growers and it takes about 9 months to a year from seed to fruits showing up on trees. Then, it takes about 4 to 6 months to harvest ripe fruits.

in the service back in the 80's, i was stationed in iceland for a year and sicily for a year. back then, i wasn't a vegetarian. my only concern with travel these days would be the availability of 'non-meat' ingredients. i don't eat out anymore since i mostly prepare my foods at home but it is nice having semi-prepared veggie products available to cut down on the food prep.

It's amazing how the mind and tongue forget a language when not immersed, isn't it? I lived in Cabo San Lucas for six months in between places stayed in Asia and I was constantly asking myself after three months or so..... "Wow, am I whipping this Spanish out, or what?". 🤣. Still, I didn't know some of the words on this video.

A papaya plant will mature in six to nine months if you live in a warm region but may take up to 11 months in cooler areas. Once the plant is mature, it will flower in early spring and can produce as many as 100 fruits in summer or fall.

Amelia, the tall flower with the bushy red flower (3:35) is "Cox Comb". We have them in our garden. Yellow & white also. Just cut or pinch off a fading head and bag it. There are oodles of tiny black seeds in the head. Just scatter, cover lightly, and tamp down. Rain can wash them away. No care required, they will multiply constantly.

Well-cared-for plants may begin to produce flowers 4 months after planting and fruit 7 to 11 months after plant- ing. The amount of fruit produced by a papaya plant varies with the general climate, weather conditions during the year, and plant care. Yields vary from 60 to 80 lbs per tree over a 12-month period.

Hi. El baúl de Cata means Cata's trunk. Cata could be the name of the owner. Spanish is my first language by the way. Gallina is hen and looking at the tail of that little guy I'd say he is a gallo. There are a lot of restaurants in such a small town. Seems like you are enjoying life. Congrats!

The tree that carpets the ground with pink flowers is Syzygium malaccense, commonly known as Malay apple, or pomerac (from "pomme arac") in the Caribbean. Don't know what it's called in Ecuador. It's a delicious, juicy pink or red fruit with white flesh which can vary from slightly sweet to very tart.

I went to HS in Panama, S. America is really nice, but I went to visit a few years ago and of course it is not the same. My pet peeves were, no matter where you went noisy roosters, people peddling food and other goods in the parks, bars restaurants. Trucks coming through on the loud speaker to sell fresh fruit and veggies. It was too overwhelming for me, you don't get a minute to enjoy some peace, so I moved back to N. America. It is still fun to visit S. America no matter where you go!
