My grandfather and great-uncles worked in the Bromsgrove wagon works at the foot of the Lickey Incline. They told me stories about Big Bertha, so it's great to see a model of her.

If you wish to learn more about big bertha/Emma , you can find most of her preserved parts in the Norton museum in bromsgrove, the hometown of big bertha/Emma

@@JenniferEKirk the bell from inside the whistle and a few more bits and bobs, they also preserved a lot of the equipment used at Bromsgrove and the lickey bank, they also have an original Railway Series James toy owned by one of the local kids,

very nice - a unique and impressive locomotive, both model wise and in reality. You call her 'Big Bertha'; many of us know her as 'Big Emma' and, apparently, some people round Bromsgrove called her 'Big Liz'. You pays your money, and you takes your choice, but, around the time she entered traffic, 'Big Bertha' was a German heavy gun, named after Bertha Krupp, the builder's wife. I'd personally stick with 'Emma'

In the US they have had chuff sounds properly synchronised to the driving wheel rotation as well as "puffing" smoke units which are also properly synchonised to the chuffs of the wheel rotation sounds for some years, so it's about time we here in the UK had something similar. By the way, I pre-ordered a Big Bertha as soon as it was announced and can't wait.

It’s not a loco that would fit on my layout but it looks really good, and having seen this video may, I may change my mind. Knowing KR Models, I’m sure that it will be a first class Loco! Thanks Jenny for this review!

The Midland Railway actually based Emma,on the FS,[Italian Railways],Plancher Compound,0-10-0's,which were used in mountain services! Thought the info,would be of use! Thank you 😇 😊!

Very excited by this model, until this video I didn’t know it was announced! I love Big Bertha, despite being a big LNER fan, she’s a cool loco, shame it wasn’t preserved. I’m sure the model will do her justice. (and hope they have some fantasy liveries).

It would be nice to see the MR 7F 0-8-0 ' Austin 7, they shared the same diameter boiler ( shortened ) and wheels as Bertha...maybe one to come..?
@andrewhotston983
@andrewhotston983 9 месяцев назад
Yes, with the additional benefit that the 7Fs didn't just shuttle between Bromsgrove and Blackwell for their whole existence!
@andrewclarke6899
@andrewclarke6899 9 месяцев назад
I believe the "Austin Sevens" were a fairly mediocre engine, inferior to the Aspinall O-8-0s they were supposed to replace. But at least you can put the Fowler engine at the front of a freight train that will fit on your average model. You'd need to own something like "Healey Mills Junction" to run a train long enough to justify "Big Bertha's" presence at the rear.
@andrewhotston983
@andrewhotston983 9 месяцев назад
@@andrewclarke6899 They were very mediocre, but that never stopped the LMS from building such locomotives - look at the Fowler 4Fs and 2Ps!
@andrewclarke6899
@andrewclarke6899 9 месяцев назад
@@andrewhotston983 Ah yes, the days when the Traffic Superintendent of the L.M.S, could tell the Chief Mechanical Engineer what he could and could not do. So no Fowler Pacific, short travel valves required, totally inadequate axle bearings, removal of the inner trucks and long travel valves from the Garratts: if it was good enough for Derby Works in 1890 it was good enough for the LMS in 1930. Even Stanier never got around to replacing the 'orrible valve events of the 3P suburban tanks, and he kept on building 4Fs until about 1941 I think - I don't suppose given wartime conditions, he had much choice. I've read somewhere that "Big Emma's" cylinder block survived withdrawal, and that the convoluted steam passages were terrifying.

Oh gosh Bertha looks wonderful 😃 I can't wait to see her behind a long train, snorting and huffing and shifting it up an incline

I have pre ordered this shes my all time favourite locomotive as i live not far from Lickey Incine i only wish i was around when see operated it will go nicely with my O gauge big bertha and i also already have a 00 version and the U1 garratt again in 00 and 0 gauge that also banked the Lickey for a time while big bertha was also there
@paulkandi
@paulkandi 9 месяцев назад
Unless you model the Lickey Incline this model was used in no other location..I don,t like the current collection method, they are like the old Replica split chassis design and prone to get dirty oily axels making poor contact...hope they change this, otherwise an interesting model, Note ; the front coupling was never used, the loco never coupled to the rear of the train it was assisting, so could return light engine to Bromsgrove....

"She was the only one of her kind, first and last of her line." I'm mostly an American railroad modeler but I have a soft spot for the Lickey engines, I always enjoyed how a railway otherwise fixated on its small engine policy was also responsible for some of the biggest engines to ever ride Britain's rails, consequently some of the only British steam engines that match their American cousins' power output.

There are so many interesting models being released these days. This one lived a bit too far South for me but it's great to see it being reproduced. It looks like it's going to be a very nice model. Good luck KR and let's see more.

Wow, I completely forgot about it's existence. It is a model I'm looking forward to picking up the next time I visit the UK. It is a very cool prototype. One of the most powerful steam locos to run on British rails. I didn't know they had smoke fitted versions, but if that's the case, I'll get one, probably in MR black. The red looks lovely too. What a great video showing the engineering prototype. I'm very excited for the final release now. Do you know when it will come out?
