In May 2014, Greyhound celebrated its 100th anniversary since the day 100 years ago on May 1914 it was organized to provided intercity coach transportation service throughout US and expanded to other Countries including Greyhound Canada and more.
This video compilation day of Greyhound Centennial Tour Stop at Philadelphia Penns Landing featuring wide variety of activities, including display of various historic and current bus fleet, games, giveaways, and a quick tour of history aboard its Mobile Museum, a converted MCI 102-DL3 from the current fleet Greyhound uses now.

A 2013-2014 Prevost X3-45 from current fleet was also seen pulling in as well
Buses on display at time of video includies:
Historic Bus Group
1931 Mack Bus
1947 Silverside
1954 GM PD-4501 Scenicruiser
Power by Detroit Diesel 8V71 buses engine with transmission

Greyhound was a much better company back in the old days than it is now today. It had a closer relationship with America.

That GM scenicruiser is a rolling work of art. I always lived the design.

I drove for Greyhound in the early '70s. In the summers I drove the coast local service from LA to San Francisco. That schedule ran mostly 7300s (MC6) with the V12 so they did a lot better on the hills than the "Cruiser" (that's what we called the Scenicruiser) but occasionally I'd pull a Cruiser and they were such a pleasure to drive even if they didn't pull the hills like an MC6. They had great AC, the MC6 did not; the instrumentation was laid out perfectly, the same as the 4104; They had the best brakes, the MC6 did not; visibility was great, the MC6 had a huge windshield that was blinding in direct sunlight. Above all, the passengers loved the Cruisers . What I especially liked was how free from engine noise they were, especially the combo cars. The "combos" were the ones with the last 3 rows of seats removed and replaced with a secure locker for housing package express parcels. They had a special numerical designation starting with an 0 (0610 for example). After 2nd gear, road noise drowned out engine noise. It was like being on a cloud with nothing but whispering wind passing by. Shifting gears was almost like they weren't even there. Since they couldn't hear the engine, some of the lightweights complained about not having a tach but the real drivers never missed a gear. One Christmas Eve I had a cruiser that was completely filled with package express, no passengers. I was on the Tucson to El Paso run. There was a big storm and the plows couldn't keep up with all the snow. By the time I made Lordsburg, snow was up to my headlights. The Cruiser had a valve that would release the pressure on the tag axel so all the weight was on the drive wheels. With that added traction, I cleared a way around a car that had spun out and plowed my way down the interstate. I felt like the Pied Piper as I looked in my mirror and observed a trail of cars following in my path as far as the eye could see. It saddens me to see how far Greyhound has fallen from it's glory days but, as is so often the case, thank the one percent with the politicians and bean counters in their back pockets that pushed for de-regulation. It was hard for "The Dog" to compete with upstarts that cut corners on maintenance (Greyhound never did), had low paid and poorly trained drivers (Greyhound never did) and, without proper sanitation facilities, would empty their restrooms on the side of the road when no one was looking (Greyhound never did). After a few years I could see the writing on the wall and reluctantly left for greener pastures but I still have my uniform. To this day I consider that my favorite job, the Scenicruiser my favorite vehicle to drive and there will always be a special place in my heart for Greyhound.

I always look for the "hounds" while on the road, but mostly on the interstates now, sometime in the late 2000's when Firstgroup took over, lots of the rural routes were pretty much axed. I knew some older guys that were involved in the intercity bus industry and they would hand me a few of the "Russell's Guides" published for Greyhound, but when they routes all over got cut, I hated to see how many routes were lost. Amazing how those fed the major routes leading to schedules having to add 2nd and even 3rd sections to a schedule. Rare that happens anymore with the "cost cutting".

God bless you Steven , your a lucky Man to have such GREAT memories. I never drove a Greydog but I ran 18 wheelers coast to coast and border to border and understand the satisfaction with good equipment and a great company to work for.

My grandad has pix of him and granny on the 1931 bus way back when. Talk about a small world. They were actually standing in front of the bus. They had just arrived to visit my aunt and she snapped the pic. Thanks for this upload. Grandad isn't going to believe this. Just wish granny was still alive to enjoy it.

In the mid 90’s, a company in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada had 6 of these Scenicruisers for sale. I believe they were asking $2,000 each. I walked thru each of them and that is when my dream to build a coach came alive. My wife (girl friend back then) and I are starting to build next year. Probably a school bus. I’m 56 now and feel like that 28 yr old dreamer. Exciting adventures await!

the Mack bus was seen as a cream white prison bus in the Shawshank Redemption and the scenic Cruiser bus was the bus that Morgan Freeman left town on for Zihuatanejo Mexico.
@BassmanII
@BassmanII 7 лет назад
Actually, the bus that Freeman was on in the last scene was a 4106 and it was a Trailways, not a Hound. the 4501 is a 40 footer with a twin screw.

Noticed how the vintage 1954 bus dragged it's ass while unloading? Seems the newer Prevost fixed that issue by angling the rear end up so it wouldn't drag! LOL. Just a joke. Beautiful buses.

This is from the 2013 order, according to the cptdb wiki, some may have sources of when the order is and possible fleet # as well as possible consecutive fleet # order based on recent sightings.

@johnwilbur5123 10 лет назад
seClip9 CPTDB is often wrong, it's a wiki. I have Greyhound's roster from January 31st, 2014, which does not have #86650. It was updated sometime in March to include this unit. The "model year" is shown as "2014". That's all I know, unless you can find the builder's plate. I also found the VIN: 2PCG33493EC735670. All Greyhound VIN's are listed on the roster.
