It’s location is kept secret and the room itself is basically the MTA’s little Fort Knox - all the cash spent on MetroCards and on buses ends up in the money room, and NBC New York’s Andrew Siff got to take a look inside.
Pretty shocked they would put this on the news. How many criminals are now gonna try to find the money room or start sticking up bus operators thinking they have bags of money stashed on the bus.
@@kobyschechter8163 they had said that the busses used to transport money bags. So I feel like someone will hold onto that and think "used to" means still does.
Too much faith in the tech and too much faith in the notion the EVERYONE will have a phone with a bank account on the web. When capitalism is death.. maybe..
The MTA is always gonna have to have a cash option because the people who don’t have bank accounts rely on the MTA to get around more than anyone else. All the sporting venues are going cashless but the MTA can’t.
@@kobyschechter8163 Same Agency destroyed and removed token booths before a ruling could be made to save those jobs. Same way bean counters are expecting savings when Collection Agents etc are gone after going cashless.
It's soon to be a part of history just like the money train was. No more cash transactions, fewer token booth clerks, collections agents, fewer staff to count $. They don't give a location over than Queens. There are mobile wash and other uses for similar trucks that were shown, so its not just a matter of "trying to follow vehicles from a distance".
They say that "this place is built around Federal Reserve Standards". Everyone knows where the Federal reserve is but no one tries to rob it because the security is so tight. I've toured the Federal Reserve bank, also toured the US Mint and there is no way anyone is robbing any of those places.
Former money handler here. Anyone who thinks they could get away with a nickel of money on THAT level is underestimating the surveillance & security that goes into these buildings before any money gets processed.
"What goes through your mind when you're handling all this money"? Worker " To make sure it's counted right"? What really goes through his mind..... I wish I could figure out a way to steal me some. LMAO
Not even.. working in a bank where I was responsible for all the money the tellers hold, the safe, the atm and the tcd... trust me, the smell of it alone makes u not wanna be around money. And the consequences behind stealing it, especially if u have a child makes u not wanna even imagine.
Why they show all that money and for what To make known the theft were the money is or something like that What a wonderful and intelligent people we have around
The MTA is so low class. You just know someone is doing something illegal. Makes you wonder why the MTA always has a deficit. It should raise a red flag when there are more outflows than inflows.
All that money for bullshit services throughout the year! Fix the subways, upgrade the signal and make it safe for public and close all subways without security/toilet/water and lower the fair.
give it about 10 year's ( 2031 ) MTA will be cashless and finally the token booth clerk's will be phased out. right now 7.27.2021 token booth clerk are not accepting cash and just sitting in the booth for the entire shift.
This is an interesting story, for me, but....not a responsible story to publish, I expect 'treasure-hunting-armed-thieves' to be aggressively looking for the retiring worker, and or the location to this room, in Queens, where City crime has spiked and victims are murdered for $2. I think the retiree should pack his bags and get out, while he can, my beloved NYC has become a dumpster-fire these last 2 years.

@@ddt4105 You don't know how anything works, if you don't understand that only physical materials can be recognized as quantifiable resource. That includes printed notes.
