Michael J Fox changed my outlook on life after reading "Always Looking Up". His words got me out of depression and I became optimistic. If I could say two words to him, I'd say "Thank You".
Agree with you... am reading it at moment - what a man! Always liked him but now more so than ever before... what COURAGE!!! What SELFLESSNESS!!! Wonderful... characterful... real mensch... Love how he doesn't give narcissistic lowlife bully morons like RL the time of day but rather talking about more important things like the vital subject matter at hand... MJF has always been a nice guy but phew... he has surpassed the mark in this interview!!! Huge hug from a huge fan in Cape Town...
@traceyurban9482 I'm glad you're reading the book. As other comments brought up, MJF is just a wholesome guy who sees the silver lining in anything, and it puts things into perspective. Like the thing Rush did was idiotic, and now that we know more about Parkinsons, I'd like to think more people are better educated about this condition. For a personal note, I read the book back in 2012 in my senior year of high school and... well, I was in a low place, and 5 years later, I almost died of an asthma attack that became a heart attack. Since I've recovered, I have tried to stay positive like MJF does, and I appreciate the life I have because you never know when it'll be snatched from you. At the time of writing this, I'm 29 going on 30, and I think, "Wow, I'm still here, and I have the love and support of all the people in my life. I'm not alone." I make it a ritual to read this book once a year so I can keep going. But I definitely think you should check out his other books. His conversational tone and wit really make you feel like someone is talking to you and guiding you.
Whenever I see Michael, I have a hard time not crying. I was such a huge fan of his when he was on Family Ties and Spin City. And seeing him now, it just makes me well up. What amazes me is how with many Parkinson's patients, when they get into the groove of things, they can get into control. I have seen Michael on so many things today and he gets into such control that it's hard to believe that he's actually sick. But still, I will always love him. He is such a brave man.
Thank you Michael J Fox for making it easier for me and others with parkinsons disease. I'm a 31 year old female just diagnosed with parkinson's disease. I hope to have the best quality of life that I can now and in the future and he's helping that happen.
Absolutely! Full respect for what your doing, Michael. You were one of my favorite actors as a kid in the Back to the Future films and my respect for your work has only increased as I've grown into adulthood. Thank you so much for sacrificing such things as personal pride to bring about knowledge of this terrible disease. My grandfather suffered from Parkinsons for my entire life and passed away a few years ago, as such I am sympathetic to yours and all cases. Hopefully soon a cure can be found.
I love how in every interview you see him in, and you can see the WAY he is sitting, he still sits professionally. Regardless of what his Parkinson's is doing he keeps his stature professional and doesn't get his back up when someone "attacks" him. He if professional and straight forward with his opinions. From someone who suffers from Dystonia I can say proudly, that people like Michael J. Fox and my mother don't let their disorder rule their lives. They make the best of it and move forward.
Thank You Michael for your strength, courage, values and commitment to helping helping educate the public on what life is like with Parkinson's. As a former nurse's aide I know how life becomes for some. Thanks for stepping outside your comfort zone to share with others so they may learn, ignorance be replaced with true knowledge. Keeping you lifted in prayers. God Bless you!
In his book "Always Looking Up" Michael says he was struck by the irony that Rush had accused him of not taking his meds when he was actually over medicated.
On one hand, it's heartbreaking to see the effects of this horrible disease on someone so effing awesome. On the other, it is so uplifting to see Mr. Fox retain his strength and resiliently fight for what he believes in. I don't think I would have that same strength if faced with such an obstacle. Bless MJF.
My Grandfather passed away from Parkinson's. He was a physically strong and very smart man. And I remember when he was diagnosed, he said " I can handle stuff happening to me physically, but I don't want anything interfering with my mind." The specialist told him to keep his mind active as much as possible. So he kept constantly trying to build things that required him to use his brain. I believe that was good therapy for him. He fought until the end, I am extremely proud of him.
Only on the internet will you be attacked for praising someone's bravery in coping with a debilitating disease. I'm sorry your comment wasn't backed with a kinder response.
+James Boyles hero is a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Michal J. Fox gets all the above so he is a hero in the eyes of a lot of people.
I'm sad of what he is going through. He's been one of my favorite actors when I was in my younger years. I will never forget his BACK TO THE FUTURE movie.
I remembered him talking about his in his book Always Looking Up. It's sad that ppl say things like that and it's great for him to keep moving forward!
What a wise, intelligent, and strong young man. I love him too. I had symptoms like his, though not as severe, before and it was NOT fun. I applaud him. Much wisdom comes from deep sufferings. There's a lot to learn from his experiences.
I feel so sorry for him. I have always liked Michael and I love many of his movies. Hang in there and keep up the good work raising awareness about Parkinsons.
I just finished that book today as well. He has a very positive outlook on life and it's really encouraging. It's also nice to see that he's trying to get his point across and work towards a cure for not only PD but others as well whithout trampling or offending others.
He could have crumbled and gone away in obscurity, and yet he came to face the world his raw self, that is courage. Michael is an inspiration. Respect.
I have PD and Michael's book is neat and uplifting. I wish him well. You don't die from the disease ; it just gets worse! Thank HIM for new meds that help, but don't cure, signed; Pythagreous1.- AKA JC
Just read his memoir 'Lucky Man'. Mike is more than a great actor, he's a very readable and real author. He's very honest about his Hollywood journey ( even the mistakes) and his battle with Parkinsons. I think he's incredibly brave to now appear on TV shows when he is unable to control his body and doesn't know if the meds he's taken are gonna kick in on time. I hope that the Foundation do spearhead the research to find a cure ( and the still mysterious cause)
This man is a survivor and my hero. i suffer from worlds most painful disease known to mankind and rather than off myself, I look at this man at what he has done and contiinues to do as an inspiration to all. He has 100% of my respect. If I could be 1% of the man he is and everyone else, the world would be a better place
This so breaks my heart to watch. Anyone who has so much to offer, hell. Anyone who has NOTHING to offer doesnt deserve to have this happen. I wish we'd find a way to fix this.
I have so much respect for Michael J. Fox. He has a way of speaking so passionately and eloquently while being so relateable and friendly. His bravery and heroism is so admirable. And he handled Limbaugh's trechery gracefully and brilliantly. His points were sound and his benevolent intentions, undeniable. We need more people like him in the world. :)
nice one vinman its so true. seeing Micheal like this hurts but when i see him not giving up and trying his best to find a cure it makes me happy so that the pain i feel dont hurt to so bad
Im reading your book Michael... Im your big fan from Brazil... My father have this disease... I wish i have this too :(... Continue fighting for a cure for us... THANK YOU MICHAEL...
He is an impressive man. He articulated himself so well, highlighting many points that for me clearly suggest why we should be supporting stem cell research.
We all have our own road to walk...I too have Parkinson's and work hard to make my life full.. as a way to keep my ability to speak, I sing for therapy...this has proven to be a major benefit. Because of my story and singing on line, it is now being tested by a leading hospital in Australia. Even when we are faced with a challenge, we all have something that we can give back. Every time I lose an ability, I gain a new one..to keep vocals and mental capacity, hard work, meds and Prayer...Scotty
this guy is one of the most admirable and respectable people alive today in my opinion.most other people would have just given up.you have my love support and respect sir.
Почему всегда на хороших людей выпадают такие испытания.. Мой самый любимый актёр, всей душой желаю ему скорейшего выздоровления! P.S. Subtitles are appreciated.
@10Skyline read his book always looking up he isnt rude at all! What he did was acceptable and mature so it wasnt rude, I always look up to him he is my hero.
Michael J. Fox has inspired me when i was a child with his movie "Back to the Future" and now he inspires me with his battle against his disease! I hope this guy will get the best treatment and the best care because he definitely deserves it!!! God bless you Michael!
He is a great actor and i feel sorry for him I know of people that have that disease and i cry seeing the pain he must go through. Shaking all the time must make him upset but you know what I am really proud of him trying to find a cure for parkinsons disease. good luck micheal and i hope you dont give up on finding the cure
