What are you hoping to see next from Windows?

Although I use a Mac, I think Microsoft is doing much more exciting stuff, especially with their hardware. Too bad Windows Phone wasn't a success.

Remember Satya saying: " I mean supporting actor role in a world that is increasingly digital is a very comfortable position to be in". It's a bit sad but at the same time I kinda like where Microsoft is going. And also they should improve upon things that seem to be working like Windows, the Surface laptops etc..

I really like how Satya Nadella re-viewing, re-thinking, and re-making Microsoft, especially in a complex, multi-device universe of AI, cloud, and IoT. Windows works just fine on my laptops, but I also use, by default, iOS and Android on my mobiles. More importantly, these different operating systems seem to get along rather well with one another!

All the fancy buzzwords are being used here.

I still believe Windows Phone is the best phone OS. It was quick, efficient and intuitive. The dev platform was the downfall imo. Xbox will bounce back in the next gen if Phil keeps it up.

I really enjoy the balance in this (and others alike) where you have a balance between bringing up the positive things about the company but also the struggles they´re having. Great video! :)

I think Microsoft has embraced its true reality. Its a service company and it needs to figure out how to make money well from that. I am excited to see what new products would be coming from Microsoft that other companies could build on. I hope it does a better job at respecting users data, security and all as it pivots.

It's been like 6 years I am saying that I made mistake and bought the DELL with Windows instead of the MAC, and saying my next computer will be the Apple one. But after the Nadela starts to run MS I am slowly start to change my mind and maybe stick with Windows. It is because I see the changes, I see that MS is now focusing on what they do the best and it is business applications and collaborative tools instead of fighting with Apple and Google in the phones wars. And there is the danger for the Apple. If the Windows will really collaborate with iOS devices, like was shown, it's another argument to avoid the Apple nice but outdated and over-prized computers. In compare with this, I see more mature keynotes on the MS side than the Apple. And, for the geek who grown up on sci-fi I want to visit this kind of lab too :-)

My 2010 Macbook Pro had finally taken its last breath and I looked at the latest lineup of Macbooks and thought... hey, not a lot has changed here, fundamentally it's the same thing except there's actually a few functions missing! I then looked at Surface Book 2 and thought... yes! that is a 2018 laptop... it's trying something innovative

It is exciting to see lots of new and good content from verge. Dieter you are the best. I love how present Microsoft thinks and they are definitely change the digital world and will set a new benchmark.

As a 18-year-old Design student and passionate I've always loved Apple's way to ideate and commercialize its values through products, services and infrastructures. But lately Apple is focusing more on the brand and reorganizing its offer rather than changing lives. I believe Microsoft is truly thinking out of the box nowadays, creating both smart hardwares and softwares. I hope people will understand that Microsoft is not second to anyone. They're not just Windows; they're creating solutions probably better than the iMac I'm writing this comment from.

He's been the CEO for what, 5 years now? And he's been at senior roles at Microsoft for something like 25 years now? Future future, sounds good, but perhaps he's had quite a lot of time to "change" Microsoft already. I think Microsoft needs to go all in with Android and Chrome OS, go all in with ARM Servers, run Windows on Android (like Samsung Dex), emulate Windows x86 apps on ARM Chromebooks, etc.

Microsoft is nothing like IBM. That's not a very smart statement.

PCs and Desktops are being used more and more by the day. The industry is NOT dying. Its good that Microsoft is making windows better and better.

I like when you said " to keep other technology companies at check" yes this is essential .... as it will benefit consumers.

Microsoft more than any other tech giant is in a unique position where they have so many overarching technologies and enterprise presence that I don't see anyone else challenging them in this space anytime soon if really ever. Sure Facebook does AI, Google as well but none carry the clout or broad expertise in this field and Microsoft and Satya is realizing this and pushing it to the N-th degree as they know they need to if they want to stay relevant. Consumer-facing products/technologies are pretty much none-existent for them so they have to focus what is now their bread and butter.

I'm excited with what MSFT is doing these days. Windows 10 is a major plus for my change of heart with what Windows is/was.

The most important thing to work on for me is to redesign the Core of Windows and cleaning it up from the ground. Although that's a huge task and takes way too much time to be profitable for Microsoft.

I have a lot of respect for Microsoft and their somewhat new direction. Over the past 3 or so years they have been building this strategy. I believe this cooperative strategy and focus on innovation is exciting and really something important to keep an eye on.

When i see this it doesn't really make me feel excited. It actually makes me miss the old days when I just needed a PC to print my documents and chat through Windows live Messenger etc.

Please Satya: - Sell your hardware outside the US - Get rid of OEMS - Optimize W10 for non SSD laptops - Stop scraping projects. - Get rid of XAML

I just think Microsoft is trying to make a difference by their own way it's something new in the market . It's much more bigger than just to compete with other os or companies . I think That meeting thing has a great potential

It’s interesting how Microsoft has really reclaimed the mantle of innovation for operating systems. Apple still makes the best hardware, but a lot of exciting and beautiful software is coming from Microsoft.

I hardly am ever on My Laptop, and Windows OS has its limits of what I can do as a user. I do alot on My Smartphone than on my Laptop. I spend more time on my smartphone than on my PC or Laptop. What am saying to Microsoft is Windows Phone had a great potential of combining that barrier. Having a fully intergrated Windows OS fitting in my pocket. That is what Microsoft should have been pushing towards.

I'd love to see The Verge do something similar with Cisco in the collaboration realm (Google as well). The office meeting experience has become extremely competitive.

THIS is the difference between Apple and the rest. Apple tries to make EVERYTHING theirs, but others try to make EVERYTHING else work with what they have. They are the ones who truly make our lives easier and just more intuitive.

Everyone is hating on Satya cause he didn't focus much on consumer electronics, aka,A SMARTPHONE. But he's keeping Microsoft alive! It's market valuation doubled in 5 years! Like are you kidding me! Such blind hated.

I'm glad they're focusing efforts elsewhere nowadays, I liked Windows Phone and the idea of continuum but it just wasn't the right thing at that point in time, or maybe not right at all. I think Microsoft is a lot more outward facing now, which is great, having a proper phone companion software sounds like a smart idea - I hate switching to my phone to reply to a message when I'ma already on my PC! Do wish Xbox had some more going for it though... PS4 has killed it recently with game exclusives!

The only reason behind Microsoft became the biggest company of the world in 2018 is only Satya Nadela's microsoft vision.

I think the important thing Microsoft's doing is putting their best apps & services into another OS. While customers become accustomed to Microsoft's services, Windows becomes a powerful assistant/ core for their work. Cortana will be smarter, AI will be embedded slowly into windows. And there may be a lightweight/cheaper version for educational computers/ ARM laptops. More features more powers!

The main takeaway from this video, for me, is that one of the places where Microsoft does R&D stuff is called "Bat cave"!

Dieter, I think you missed a significant shift in Microsoft's attitude toward Linux. This alone explains the transformation the company is going through.

Microsoft is truly a reliable and valuable company and a benefactor to innovation in the world as we see it today. I love how they're moving towards a cloud based system with Azure and Office 365 while still continuing to make great products and develop efficient and cooperative software such as their line of Surface devices equipped with Windows 10 Pro. Though it is true their phones weren't a world-shattering success, there exists a multitude of things Microsoft does that IS. So to Microsoft, even though you'll probably never see this, thank you.

I hope they will be a dominant force in AR/VR hololens and Windows Mixed reality r really great hope the platform continue to get good developer and third party support

THOUGHT OF WINDOWS WORKING WITH CELL PHONES ANDROID OR IPHONE. MANY YEARS AGO.

I do not find it sad that Microsoft is more like IBM these days. They were never a big player in the hardware space outside of keyboards and mice until the Surface line. There is a plethora of tech hardware out there, and the hardware matters less than the software. There needs to be more focus on the intangibles than a slick piece of glass in your hand, and Microsoft is doing this by being following a similar business model they've always had. Create software/experiences that work regardless of the hardware it's on.

I like that Microsoft is taking in their own direction. I feel like MS is a more company in general that's trying to appeal to more advanced users while also making more basic users become power users. The reason why I like MS so much is bc of all the power that it holds. I don't think Microsoft needs to directly compete with a Google or Apple bc those people like me who love their products will do cool.stiff with it to make others want to learn and discover all that Mr. Nadella is trying to offer

The latest update of windows 10 did something that i don't know but suddenly the power of my Gpu increased and I'm now able to play latest games at high setting which I was unable to play before. can someone explain me what happened?

Dieter's videos are just always my favourites. Great content as ever! I would like to see more focus on integration between Android and Windows. Yes Microsoft lost the phone battle, and now they are taking baby steps towards integrating Android, but it still too restricted. I live my life on a Surface Pro 4, working both as my notebook in uni, as my entertainment device for those lazy nights, as my workstation coupled with an ultrawide monitor at home and even sometimes as my light gaming computer. However, I am equally frustrated every time I want a file, a photo, a website or anything from my computer to my phone, or the other way around. Yes there is some integration now, but it is too hard to set up, relies on Edge on my phone (which has been awfully slow and resource intensive since it came out), relies on their own little launcher or just doesn't work at all.

So the answer to AI responsibility question is we guide people to do good AI like we did with good UI? Are bad UI and bad AI are even comparable??

You know on one hand I totally get the feeling a little sad part, but at the same time I am seeing Windows 10 becoming this wonderful operating system that I have always wanted it to be, which is ironic because Microsoft is apparently switching from being ALL ABOUT WINDOWS to another grander scheme. I haven't really had crashes with my laptop, nor has windows ever come across as buggy to me (I know it is for a lot of people out there) but my experience has really been as Microsoft intended. I actually think Windows is better than MacOS, more so after this April's Creators Update. The timeline, the comprehensive settings app that makes me (for the first time since ever) feel like control panel's days are numbered! Windows Defender actually seems sufficient enough if you're someone of decent internet habits, AUTOCORRECT whilst typing? This is great people. And if you have yourself a Dell XPS with that infinity edge display? What more do you want? Maybe a 4k Dell XPS 15, with a 16:10 screen ratio (at TheVerge I winketh) hahaha

I think it would be good for Microsoft to develop more of a widely accessible ecosystem like Google has done. Doesn't matter what device you are using.

The mobile industry is top priority for no reason.... Let Microsoft grow in the field it excels and it will catch on with mobile platform soon.... That's what I think!

I think Microsoft is successful in so many ways that journalists will never understand.... and I think Microsoft likes it that way. They let Apple bash them for years, and still hold the lionshare of users worldwide. Sony sold an incredible amount of PS4 hardware this generation... Peopla all over the internet wondering if Microsoft will shut down Xbox, while they're making billions. LOL .. People wondering why they invest in features for Xbox and Windows crossplay. Drives engagement, which drives software, and services sales. Microsft doesn't want to sell you an Xbox or Win10 machine you don't actually use. Microsoft is a software and services company. Everything is in service of Windows. Azure, Xbox... Everything....

I was once a loyal user of windows OS. But one day, I decided to try macOS. And from that day I have never looked back on windows again. MacOs is the future.

Really I've been following Microsoft for last decade like their take on Android OS to just simply quitting it. They're trying to make a difference by doing things differently and yeah we can see that in their recent product lines. But I see the real question here should be who's gonna ensure that those core and ethical principles are being adhered?

It's weird Satya talking about how to make good UI when Microsoft can't really make a good UI or UX since it's company's inception (for most of the time) and how it's essential to creating good AI. It concerns me, that if they can't make good UI or UX these days, how can you expect this company to get AI right? That's my only concern, but if I'll gonna be pick on who do I want to lead the AI, from Google, to Microsoft to Facebook, I'm gonna be all in to Microsoft bc they have real responsibility and intention to privacy and ethics, like what Dieter say, right from the jump.

I think Microsoft can do better in the mobile area but of course without implementing a new OS. For example I'm trying the Microsoft Launcher and I have to say that I really enjoy what they had made with the app. Cortana needs more work if they want it to compete with Google Assistant and Siri. I really like the idea of being able to see my phone with the same "design language" as on my W10's. Being honest the idea is good but they need to be more practical.

Elimination of telemetry, not putting people in jail for refurbishing their stuff with some ridiculous license agreement excuse, the end of persistence on stuff that will not catch on like the Windows Store and Windows 10S, more quality control on their Surface line, stopping consumer hostile crap like the forced upgrades and updates... do I need to go on? I get it that from an interview it seems like they are trying to do "the right thing", but it has always been that way. How about they start actually doing, promoting and releasing the stuff they have been talking about for years instead of us having to read on headlines about all the stupid crap the company actually puts out? That would be enough.

Things that might help Microsoft: - Use the stripped downed Windows 10S for a new chain of Windows Phones instead of on laptops. (apps will grow and it's better for smaller devices, full Windows 10 works fine with cheaper laptops) - Instead of trying to be a moral Gandhi for gaming and only focus on multi platform sharing, how about do both, create amazing exclusives for Xbox only and create some games that are multi-platform. You will gain profit and respect from the gaming community. - Focus on getting windows 10 more stable. I see the priorities are really going in an odd direction. There's still much on what Windows 10 can improve, especially in the UI. The start menu is still a mess, the notifications look horrible, it's a annoying sound and ugly square popping from the right side..really? Why not a rounded bar that slides up from down right with a short jingle and fades away? Less annoying more efficient to look at. There are many quirks Microsoft still has to fix. - Create Surface laptops, computers at a more afoordable price, one of the best things Microsoft has done as of late is creating amazing new hardware, it's sad that there are no cheaper options available, also the fact that they often leave out thngs like USB C or use older video cards are weird choices. But if they can sell it for cheaper, they can get a larger audience and sell hardware that is well suited for their software. (Like Apple with the Macbook, or Google with the Pixel)

I mean its extremely frustrating for windows Phone 10, makes me want to cry literally one of the best phone OS out there trashed because the Marketing direction does not allow for the phone the pride of Microsoft to go down the drain. Here is what I suggest, let Satya Nadella allow a phone app in windows 10 desktop and arm editions so that we can enjoy making phone calls on tablets as well as allow for mobile data and perhaps allow others to use the windows operating system not only on tablet mode but use it in phone mode as well.... Just putting it out there... So frustrating and demoralizing, am even willing to come up with my own windows phone … if they only let me have that app... Here is a message for Satya Nadella, you will always be remembered as the guy who killed windows phone, the developers wont forgive you and the end phone users wont either.

I like Satya and of course want Microsoft to prosper, but that demo of using Halolens to find faulty HVAC sensors is the epitome of Microsad.

AI is not artificial intelligence it is machine learning. A baby is an AI, a baby starts out simple and then becomes more complex until you start to see its personality begin to develop. If you are observant you can see this process taking place. Considering what some babies become, AI is not something we should take lightly if we actually create a digital self aware intelligence.

Microsoft is sticking around for the next few decades at least. Windows still has about 90% market share when it comes to desktop computers.
